Anyone watching? I really like it & love Matthew Rhys. Interesting take on the Cold War - wonder how much of it is based on reality?

I thought the opening scene in the first episode was fantastic too. The music was prefect for it. Another Matthew Rhys fan here. Loved him in Brothers and Sisters.

boofted · 28/03/2014 19:28

onedev I think you can see it on Youtube. It's just the very first scene, I was gripped from then on.

onedev · 28/03/2014 21:18

I'll have to look that up thanks. I loved Brothers & Sisters too Grin

I missed last weeks episode, damn. How do I find itv catch up please?

cogitosum · 28/03/2014 21:26

I love it! So glad I've seen this thread... I missed the first few episodes of this series and really wanted to know when it started so very upset about lack of advertising!

Just watched Saturdays!

DustBunnyFarmer · 30/03/2014 18:41

Is anyone else finding it harder to follow the plot twists and turns this season?

cogitosum · 30/03/2014 21:02

I'm just watching it now with red wine and chocolate cake! My Mother's Day treat!

This is only the second one I've watched of this series so not sure yet if it's more difficult to follow. I like it so far that it seems to be about their children and family set up

onedev · 31/03/2014 21:22

I have to pay close attention (so can't Mumsnet at the same time Grin) but can follow it fine so far !

Ah yes. MN posting in parallel, that'd be it.

Anyone else find last night's rough sex perplexing? I keep thinking they have genuine affection for one another, then something happens like last night's episode and I wonder. It strayed uncomfortably close to rape.

PatTheHammer · 20/04/2014 15:35

I'm not sure what the point of that was either, seemed totally out of character too. I was laughing away thinking they were just enjoying a bit of dress-up fantasy and then it got a bit weird and uncomfortable to watch like you say.

GypsyFloss · 20/04/2014 21:26

I think Elizabeth is jealous of the relationship that Phillip has as Clark with her whose name I've forgotten. Previously they've just had sex with others as part of the job. She is worried that Phillip shares something more intimate with the other woman and wanted to reassert her importance in their relationship.

DustBunnyFarmer · 20/04/2014 21:31

I get the jealousy about Martha and Clark (Elizabeth's motivations). I don't get the level of aggression from Philip - had the feel of punishment about it (Philip's motivation).

GypsyFloss · 20/04/2014 21:44

I understand what you mean.

I have a question about Paige's bible study. I was under the impression, from reading Judy Blume in the 80's , that you either went to the YMCA and bible school or the synagogue. I find it hard to believe the family wouldn't have attended church or some religious institution to maintain their cover.

onedev · 21/04/2014 16:03

I agree with you Gypsy re jealousy. I just thought Philip was v confused & wanted Elizabeth to stop & when she kept persisting, he acted like Clark would - not pleasant!

I really feel for Martha but do think she'll turn psycho when she gets an inkling that all isnt as it seems.

WalkingThePlank · 21/04/2014 16:19

My resume understanding is that Phillip is rough with Martha as this is what she likes, presumably especially from behind. He did not want to do this with Elizabeth as this was how she was raped in Russia. However, she kept on pushing him so he did do it roughly.

It did feel less like there was too much sex this week.

onedev · 21/04/2014 18:54

Totally agree Walking.

GypsyFloss · 21/04/2014 19:07

I'm not that fussed about this season. I loose track of which Russian is which!

onedev · 21/04/2014 19:10

I agree - last season was better. Seems like there's too many characters & I struggle to keep up with who / what! What is the Russian guy up to with the FBI agent & threatening Nina. Is he wanting to defect? Trying to find out what Nina is up to? Or what else?

OP posts:
GypsyFloss · 21/04/2014 19:30

And how come their children don't make more fuss about their parents never being there in the middle of the night?

DustBunnyFarmer · 21/04/2014 21:26

Drugs in their milky bedtime drinks, Gypsy?

GypsyFloss · 21/04/2014 21:28

Aha. Hadn't thought of that!

onedev · 21/04/2014 21:30

They told them not to ever go to their room when the door is closed & then when they suspected that Paige knew they weren't there in the night, they set up the sex scene to put her off Grin

DustBunnyFarmer · 21/04/2014 22:51

I still think its a bit rum. My kids are primary school age and they still need us at night occasionally when they fall ill, have bad dreams etc. That's where I can't work out how being regularly absent would have worked.
