Salamander - not Danish but.....

Not bad either...

Good, convincing plot, hunky chief inspector and good setting. Enjoyed the Flemish which isn't unlike Danish...

There was a huge scandal in Belguim some years ago involving lots of government figures, judges etc in a huge paedophile ring am wondering if that's where this is going. Good stuff,but no Saga.

I quite enjoyed it. Agree, Sad that there was no Saga or Martin but I was completely absorbed.

Definitely filled the bridge-shaped gap in my Saturday evening. I was thinking paedophiles too so that may be too obvious.

Will avoid 'next time on...' in future as it gave too much away.

Quite impressed. I was disappointed with all the loose ends in the finale of The Bridge - just hope this one ties up nicely whatever the outcome is. Cooroo we always flick off very quickly at the end of every programme - just wish they wouldn't do it - also wish they wouldn't show you the whole programme coming up at the beginning - thank heavens not with this type of programme.

Not bad. Will probably seem better when we care more. Hard to care that much about anything episode two.
Seemed sexist after the bridge. Female characters like miss moneypenny.

I enjoyed it. The writer of Salamander has said it's intended to be the opposite of The Bridge, more of a thriller made for a mass audience. So I'm trying not to compare it too much!

It's nice to have an insight into another European city (that's not in Scandiland). Flemish is an interesting language too - have never heard it before.

Better than Arne Dahl which started slowly and felt a bit feeble after other foreign offerings but improved. Shall watch next Saturday's instalments.

Flemish is Dutch, more or less. A soft 'g', a slightly different sentence structure, and a few French words thrown in. But don't tell anyone I told you. Wars have been fought over it.

I've a lot of family in Holland and having visited over the years, Flemish sounds to me like a more gutteral form of Dutch, with a few French words thrown in to make it sound a bit softer. I guess as it is set in Brussels, we are going to get this Bi Lingual combination of Flemish/French, so a bit like the Bridge in that we are getting two languages and one set of subtitles. I guess after all the strong female leads we have been used to with Sarah Lund, Saga etc, it is a bit depressing to revert back to a male lead, but who knows, maybe it will get better. - Personally I found him very easy on the eye, but he is my 'type' anyway ! - bit rugged and dishelleved - but it will have to be a very strong story to keep me interested. :)

Yes I did. Two of my siblings (and my husband) actually settled there for some reason, they all got addicted to hagelslag sandwiches.

I don't miss Dutch food or Holland itself much at all but I do miss seeing so many plants in the windows of houses like living curtains.
