I think the whole thing is manipulated, I just can't figure out what and why yet.

Lee is not terribly bright but he has quite possibly been portrayed as worse than he is. You can do anything with clever editing

I agree Piscivorus, the editing has been done to cast him in that role in every single episode, we never see Lee doing anything else though he may be a lying dick 24/7

Of course the whole thing is manipulated. I think they all get a ' 'character' and are edited that way, and them emphasis is placed on any story lines that reinforce that.
I also totally think there was a payoff : blue singing 'live' for lee to exit alone.

Lady I think the theories are most likely rubbish and it wasn't fixed, it's just what some people seem to think because Lee is jammy and managed to avoid the crowds
