Has anyone tried to put together a list of their top 10 TV mums? I can't think of any that I really like to watch at the moment.

Joyce Summers from Buffy.

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham

LittleBabyPigsus · 08/12/2013 23:50

Where's Susan Kennedy??

Gwen as well as Pam from Gavin & Stacey. Does Nessa count as a mum? Grin

Love Lois from Malcon in the Middle.

Also Rita (?) from Butterflies - remember her?

LaFataTurchina · 08/12/2013 23:54

I agree with Mrs Cooper in TBBT.

I also like the mum in Outnumbered.

I don't think Lois in Malcolm in the Middle is a very good mum at all. She strikes me as very controlling.

I didn't see Fresh Meat but I am intrigued so I might have to take a look ... out of curiosity do you like the mums that are like you or who you want to be like? I love Lorelei but I know that I am nothing like her ...

Lynette Scavo in Desperate Housewives. She also has balls. I think I like her because is like to be a bit more like that, though not abandoning my children at the roadside (temporarily) or taking their ADHD meds! I have recently had first DC and keep thinking of the bit where she meets a pregnant woman who 'couldn't wait to be a Mommy' and she laughs Grin. I kind of get that now!

I love Fresh Meat! Hilarious.

KatoPotatoHoHo · 09/12/2013 12:22

The wife in 'My Wife and Kids' She was awesome

Tennyson · 09/12/2013 12:47

Mums with balls ... that sounds like a new thread! I must admit that I am taken with those gutsy strong mums ... no need for Supernanny for Lynette or Lois!!

At home we say 'she's got breasts' instead of balls to respect gender and because boobs seem much tougher than balls Grin.

Jackie Goodman - Friday Night Dinner. I also like her mum (Grandma). I love that show. I made me laugh a lot.

Tennyson · 10/12/2013 09:41

Do you watch any of the Supernanny type of programmes? Sometimes I like watching because it makes my family seem pretty well behaved by comparison but other times I just feel really really sorry for those poor mums dealing with endless tantrums and tears.

Tennyson yes I do! But DD too small (11 weeks) to compare. So I just sit there thinking 'oh, I'd never do that!' Haha!

Tennyson · 10/12/2013 10:49

I know what you mean ... but then I remember what sleep deprivation does to a person! Do you ever think about what Supernanny does as helpful to the families ... they always seem so much calmer/happier at the end but I am not sure if I am just being a bit naive ...

Gemma Teller in Sons of Anarchy... She's not in any way a great role model of a mum, but she's hard as nails and would do anything for her son.

(not a series for the faint hearted)

Tennyson · 10/12/2013 12:54

Is that a bit like the mum in Weeds ... sometimes doing everything for the children makes them good mums, even if it doesn't make them 'nice' or 'likeable' women. I guess it depends how we think about whats important, being nice/liked or being an authority figure .... I try and do both but it is a pretty difficult balancing act that I sometimes get wrong!

Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights...she was awesome.

SomethingAboutRadishes · 10/12/2013 12:59

Peg Bundy.

DevlinMaccabee · 10/12/2013 20:44

Clair Huxtable from the Cosby Show was always my favourite growing up.

BitchyFestiveFace · 10/12/2013 21:04

Oh yes, how could I forget Tami Taylor? She (and Eric) were just the best.

loisismyhero · 10/12/2013 23:09

The clue is in my nn!

More recently Frankie Heck. And Mrs Cooper.
Lois is queen of them all though.
I love her big speech in the very last episode.

Its0kToBeMe · 11/12/2013 21:51

Another vote for Loralei.

Jennifer Saunders on Ab Fab, can't remember her name mind....

somewherewest · 11/12/2013 23:06

'Favourite' isn't the right word, but I've always found Betty Draper on Mad Men interesting as a realistic portrayal of a bad mother. Not full on psychotic, just not very caring or engaged.
