Rebecca Adlington - medical grounds?

Does anyone have any idea why she keeps being excluded from the challenges due to 'medical grounds' ?

And I just replied to you on that thread that just because others have done it doesn't make it ok. What it makes is dull tv. Get her the hell out of there!

Why would she be picked on for being an Olympian? If she's being picked on it's because she won't do the trials

Because she's gone on a trials show and doesn't do the trials. Simple

Her fiancé has been on twitter saying she's definitely not pregnant. Although I guess he would say that if they've decided not to make it public knowledge.
I'm going for the asthma theory. I think it's been exceptionally poorly planned by the producers although maybe they considered that she was too much of a national treasure (like Chris Biggins) for it to bother the public.

She is not likeable at all which has surprised me.

Well I mentioned George Hamilton upthread and said how ridiculous it was. It seems obvious to me that it's more comment-worthy with Rebecca A because we assume Olympian athletes to be prime physical specimens, über fit, über healthy, so exclusion on medical grounds feels odd.

I'd be if a contestant on, say, Dancing On Ice, said "Well, I get dizzy and vomit if I spin around or I'm lifted up so all I'm going to do is skate slowly round the perimeter of the rink, ta very much."

Unfortunately for her, from now on I think there's a good chance the public will vote her to do every trial for which she's eligible.

Call me a cynic but I think probably she was allowed on the show despite not being able to the trials because the producers knew exactly what would happen and it's worked a treat...What is everyone talking about?

Can't begin to think why she and her advisors thought it was a good idea for her, but the producers have got exactly what they wanted.

She's probably hormonal that's why she's weepy, imagine having your period in the jungle, urgh! She had tampons with her so doubt she's pregnant.

I'm surprised she's even on twitter as people are so nasty, I think it would do her a lot of good to come off completely.

She seems understandably so fragile I'm not sure why on earth she'd put herself in the during line for yet more criticism.

I'd have thought the women would have taken the pill or something to avoid menstruating in the jungle. I just think Rebecca's a bit of a troubled soul who's struggling to find her way a bit, post-athletic success, to be honest. It must be very hard. She retired from swimming when she was only very young - she's not like Paula Radcliffe who has her little children to focus on, her solid marriage and burgeoning pundit career and her millions, or Kelly Holmes who was also in her 30s when she retired after Olympic success, who's been in the army and was clearly a massively strong character. I feel a lot of sympathy for her.

At the end of the day this is a TV programme which is supposed to be about entertaining the public. The producers should vet these celebrities beforehand to ascertain if they have asthma, claustrophobia or whatever other conditions they may have which would preclude them from taking part in the sorts of trials they have planned. What's the point of having a bunch of people there who can't even be nominated by the viewers?

I'm sure there's a big enough pool of z listers out there that they'd be able to select 10, or however many it is they need, who are all more than capable of taking a full part in the proceedings.

It seems to me that these z listers are so desperate for £100,000 that they're willing to agree to anything before they sign on the dotted line and then suddenly get cold feet and develop all these medical conditions once they're actually there.
