Anyone else think that the first episode of the new series was absolute pants. John running through French windows like in a bad farce and Sarah Lancashire gurning for Britain.

Derek Jacobi must be in need of a few bob if he's got involved in this

We enjoyed it Wink but for sure there's an awful lot of "acting" going on.

fliedpiecatcher · 20/11/2013 21:16

I watched it because I enjoyed the first series. Last night's was a real farce though. Like an old-fashioned sit-com. V disappointed. I think it was a one series thing only.

flipchart · 20/11/2013 21:28

Me and DS1 were disappointed with it.
Let's hope it gets better because I enjoyed series 1

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 20/11/2013 21:30

no idea how it is going to pan out but am willing it to pick up as I loved the last series

fliedpiecatcher · 21/11/2013 17:51

I'm also sticking with it in the hope it will soon turn out to be as good as the first series.

missmarplestmarymead · 21/11/2013 20:05

Waiting for Dean Andrews to have a bigger part. Saw a picture of him looking gorgeous recently and the article mentioned how involved he is in The Grand Depart that begins in Yorkshire next year. So, looking forward to it picking up next week.

Oh, is it on again? What time? Wednesdays?

mateysmum · 21/11/2013 20:12

It was all a bit convoluted wasn't it. I hope that was it just getting going

flipchart · 21/11/2013 22:08

No it's Tuesday that its on at 9.00 pm

Kaluki · 22/11/2013 12:57

It wasn't as good as the first series. I will still watch though.
The characters are starting to annoy me now, especially John and the elderley couple are a bit wet!

Twitterqueen · 22/11/2013 13:03

Love the first series. This first episode in series 2 doesn't bode well though. I got bored with it tbh. And irritated because it's verging on the totally unrealistic in Iris Murdoch style...

And does no-one care about the children in all this? Teenage boys being apparently OK to have drunken mistresse throwing up, lesbian lover moving in, wet Gillian lurching from one bed to the next...

I'll give it one more go.

bigTillyMint · 22/11/2013 13:49

Ooh thanks - will try to find it on catch-up and give it a go even though you lot are giving it a drubbing!

Ellenora5 · 22/11/2013 14:57

I was really looking forward to it, it was ok, will stick with it though.

HesterShaw · 22/11/2013 15:46

I can't believe they made another series. I thought it was just a six part mini series type thing rather than an ongoing drama.

flipchart · 26/11/2013 22:19

I've just the second one now and it's just getting a bit too bonkers.

nikkihollis · 26/11/2013 23:07

I agree flipchart. The first series felt almost believable. This is just descending into farce. I will stick with it for the time being but not sure if I'll stay the course.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/11/2013 23:18

Haven't watched tonight's yet, but was deeply irritated by the Sarah Lancashire character last week, using her lover to score points over her husband and neither of them seemingly giving any thought to their children.

bigTillyMint · 27/11/2013 08:05

Watched last night - DH commented that it was like Brookside in the last few weeks with a ridiculous amount of things happening in the storyline. It was a comical farceSmile

Optimist1 · 27/11/2013 08:43

What I liked about the first series was that all the principal characters were nice and good in their very differing ways. But last night I was very disappointed in Celia's snarkiness and Caroline's self-obsession. Alan is such a sweetheart! Gillian should give herself a talking to (and definitely kick John into touch).

Ellenora5 · 27/11/2013 19:17

There is an awful lot going on in one episode, last nights was a bit miserable I thought and going on the trailer for next week doesn't look like it will be much better......but here's hoping Smile

diddl · 28/11/2013 09:46

I didn't enjoy Tuesdays either.

Felt quite sorry for Gillian.

And didn't really like Celia-saying that Raf(?) is as stupid as his mum.

And telling Caroline why they wanted to marry so quickly.

So Caroline knows everything & will think Gillian is causing too much stress.

And why was Caroline so bothered about Gillian & John that hse told Celia who then told Alan who got pissed off with Gillian??

And now Caroline wants money to keep the bloody house!

SpanishFly · 28/11/2013 15:25

i have to say that if I was Caroline, whether or not I cared that Gillian and John had slept together, I'd have told my mum too. I'd have been miffed if not upset or bothered.

And Ronni Ancona is DREADFUL!! I HATE that kind of constant slurring that actors do to pretend they're drunk. Very few people actually do that (if anyone does it at all).

diddl · 29/11/2013 08:45

I suppose I can see why Caroline told Celia.

I guess I hate how they look down on Gillian & Raff.

They both (C&C) seem so cold & maybe only now getting on together.

But Gillian & her Dad seemed to have always got on & now that's going wrong.

And it must be awful for her to think that perhaps he never really loved her mum .

SpanishFly · 04/12/2013 20:50

It all went weird again - everyone with their personality transplants. Caroline might as well have told her young son she was off on a dirty weekend. Caroline being horribly two-faced about having a baby - wishing the woman she apparently loves doesn't get pregnant or suffers a miscarriage. Gillian being a bit spoiled (but had very good points, imo).
