Was it any good? I missed it completely the first time around, but am thinking of buying the box set.

I really liked Once Upon A Time, which I know has some of the same writers.

I haven't really watched that many other American series, other than Pushing Daisies and bits of The Mentalist and Glee. Oh, and a mid-series episode of Pan Am, but I couldn't really get into it (probably because I hadn't seen the others).

So, it seems quite a bit to spend if I'm not going to like it, but I don't want to read too much about it!

If you watched it, what other series would you compare it to? And any Other suggestions are welcome. I'd like something to get my teeth into!

We loved Lost. It is much better on DVD, as you can follow the plot more easily. However it is very convoluted.

There is though some absolutely amazing acting (I am thinking of one actor who is outstanding).

There are a couple of actors in Once Upon a Time who were in Lost.

The one who plays Belle is, isn't she? I recognised her on the pictures (but she looks quite different very blonde!).

So, in terms of convoluted are we talking Ashes to Ashes levels of not knowing what's happening? I can cope with that (and much easier on DVD when I can just watch the next episode!).

Somethings aren't really explained until the last series. And there are lots of twists and turns and co-incidences (some you have to be really good to spot eg. who sold Desmond the boat - not really a spoiler).

The Giant was in Lost, as was Prince Charming's Father (?).

If you like lots of mysteries and twists and being made to figure things out for yourself then you'll probably love Lost. If you like straightforward storylines where everything gets wrapped up neatly then you will probably hate it.

Bear in mind that there are 121 episodes in total so it's a big commitment to watch the whole thing.

It does sound really good. I like twists and mystery bits, so should be right up my street Smile

I might ask around and see if any of my friends have the first series, so I can watch an episode or two just to check I like it before ordering.

Loved Lost. Absolutely fab. Sawyer was awesome!!
Great plot lots of twists and turns,,red herrings and polar bears, perfect for autmn/winter.

The last episode was the biggest let down. Ever.

I loved it and hated it in equal measure.

If you watch it knowing that whole of everybody hated the ending, you'll be fine, becuase you won't have all your hopes and dreams dashed the way I did.

Loved Lost. The last ep. is a real marmite ep. but I loved it. Great acting, funny, perplexing and intriguing - as long as you pay attention and don't get hung up on every teeny tiny plot thread having a full explanation then you'll enjoy it... Oh and Sawyer is smokin' hot!

I watched them recently on Lovefilm - I managed the first three seasons in the months free trial (lots of middle of the night, feeding a newborn eps.) and then paid for a couple of months subscription to finish it off. Cheaper than buying the box sets.

I am STILL pissed off that I wasted 121 hours of my life watching Lost, thats how big a dissapointment the final stupid stupid stupid lazy ending was.

I watched all of the first two seasons, then half the third and dipped into a few of the others, mostly because I couldn't cope with the ridiculous amount of ad breaks.

Worth a look just for the eye candy, even if you don't like the ever-increasing mysteries (which are quite good but didn't counteract the ad breaks!) but it does get into Twin Peaks levels of bonkers - now there's a series to watch if you haven't, and it's much shorter!

DH watched it last year when he had a free trial of Netflicks or similar.

3 or 4 episodes a night, more at weekends.
The TV is beside the PC.
It was there in my peripheral vision.
And it went on and on and ON.

Can't remember the ending TBH but it didn't make me go WOW Hmm

Lost was a couple of seasons too long. It got silly but I really wanted to make it to the end to get answers. It was bit of a slog and all my questions weren't answered.Hmm

I think the writer's strike was on around series 4. It was a shorter season and the dialogue was stilted as though whoever wrote it wasn't trying very hard.

Yes, I think the writer's strike had a lot to answer for, so many good things were left in the lurch, or totally rubbish. I am trying to remember when it was, must have been 2009/10?? All I remember is being utterly heartbroken that they left Heroes unfinished, it was such a brilliant, original and well written series..... Angry surely someone could have paid someone to finish it off properly?

Lost is amazing, I watched it with DD1 over summer, my DH hated it though, but generally it's a great show.

The writers strike and the network did 'ruin' it a bit. The executive writers only wanted to do three seasons and they had the story arc from the get go but because it unexpectedly became such a massive hit the network changed their minds and refused to let them end the show (as is the way with TV shows across the pond). At one point they were set to resign because the plot was getting away from them and they were getting pissed off with the same issues as the audience was but couldn't resolve them without an 'end point'. It was only at the eleventh hour that the network agreed to letting them end the show - the network had wanted 12 seasons, they wanted 3; they compromised on 6.

Had they had their way I think it would have been a much leaner, less convoluted plot and they wouldn't have had to add in superfluous plot threads and characters that couldn't be properly resolved. Shrug - still brilliant though.
