Anyone else looking forward to this tonight? I love Martin Clunes in this! Even DH likes it ( but still pretends not to!)

It was a bit silly and over the top but I felt the heart of it is hopefully still there. Nice to see virtually all the original cast back. And Port Isaac looked beautiful as ever.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 03/09/2013 14:41

What missbopeep said.

Shame really, I used to love Doc Martin.

waikikamookau · 03/09/2013 15:10

I never saw the first series, I saw the previous one, twice, although I did used to watch it with the previous receptionist from the IT crowd, she is really good.
should I buy the box set?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 03/09/2013 22:06

What a pile of cringeable crap.

Just watched half of it now, couldn't bear to watch the rest.

Have enjoyed previous series but won't be watching this one.

I just Do Not Get why she would marry him. They don't get on. There is no moment where they make each other happy.

And prancing around the woods "ooh won't it be funny with her in a wedding dress"...

No. It wasn't.

missbopeep · 04/09/2013 07:18

I agree.

It was so bad it was an insult to anyone with half a brain cell who thought that the antics were funny.

Wooden, cliched characters, dire script (with Clunes as I said before as Mr Bean- all grimaces and no dialogue) predictable plot, beyond believable storyline. God, who writes this crap for prime time TV?

It's as if it were written by a Year 4 child- no, hang on, a year 4 child could do better.

dingit · 04/09/2013 09:05

Something tells me this will be the last series. They have run out of ideas!

OP posts:
wintera · 04/09/2013 09:47

To be honest I was really surprised it came back for a new series. Really thought it was finished after the last series. They should have just done a one off special were they got married, put a bit more effort into it, and left it at that. It would have been a good way to finish it. Its just dragging on now.

wintera · 04/09/2013 09:48

Waikiki - the first few series are definitely much better.

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/09/2013 12:47

I used to love this too but thought this series was odd.
Louisa's character went all weird in the woods with her mocking him when they came across that horse.

As if you'd leave a cottage in the middle of nowhere in the night they could have just opened the doors and windows.

I preferred the scenes with the baby and Al coming round. I like Al...also that new electrician Wink

FruOla · 10/09/2013 08:47

So, do we think the new electrician is going to somehow become the nanny/childminder? And are Al and Morwena going to get together?

The scene with the baby monitor was so obviously going to happen!

I love PC Penhale too Blush

wintera · 11/09/2013 14:22

Bit better this week but still not up to old standards. I don't think their marriage will last either. Al will probably end up with Morwenna, just because he always ends up with the receptionist!

FruOla · 11/09/2013 15:17

Agreed, wintera, there are only so many story lines before it gets silly. Remember Monarch Of The Glen, it was great in the early days but then it got ridiculous?

JustBecauseICan · 11/09/2013 15:25

I think they need to go back to the doc-patient stories rather than the frankly ludicrous Louisa-Doc story.

(did anyone else notice the school seems to have 25 kids and about 11 teachers?)

(and Louisa is so flaky there is no way she would be head)

Kikithecat · 02/10/2013 14:56

Glad to see a few of you lusting after PC Penhale. Makes me feel better about fancying Barry Barry off Waterloo Road.

FruOla · 02/10/2013 16:06

Well, Kikithecat, PC Penhale surpassed himself this week didn't he?! I still like him though, even though he's slightly bonkers - in an 'ever so' nice kind of way Grin

Kikithecat · 05/10/2013 10:33

He definitely needs a good woman to look after him. Not me though. .

CMP69 · 06/10/2013 15:52

Very very disappointed Sad Angry

susiedaisy · 14/10/2013 19:22

I'm enjoying it but think that the Doc and Louisa have a very strange marriage!

carabos · 14/10/2013 20:18

Has anyone else noticed that all the female characters wear masses and masses of make up? They're made up like oscar winners all the time and the clothes seem really out if place too.

mrsjay · 14/10/2013 21:50

it isnt looking for for louisa is it Shock

Kikithecat · 23/10/2013 09:02

So what did we think of the end of Doc Martin? I thought it was quite touching and realistically uncertain (unlike the rest of the series which was farcical - though I was still glued to it).
Would have like a schmaltzy ending really though!

mrsjay · 23/10/2013 09:07

I liked the ending and bless MArtin and his tear his mothers appearance then stealing the clock was a bit pointless showed her greed though, I feel sorry for him a little bit it isn't his fault he is the way he is, I actually hate the policeman in it he is just rubbish I know it is meant to be comedy but good god he is so annoying

Kikithecat · 23/10/2013 09:09

Oh I forgot about Penhale (how couldI??). No he's only annoying because nobody's nice to him! He just needs a good friend and a wife and he'd soon turn normal. Trust me I'm a psychiatrist (and Miss Tishall is a brain surgeon).

FruOla · 23/10/2013 09:19

Wasn't PC Penhale going to get married a couple of series back? But she jilted him before the wedding?

mrsjay · 23/10/2013 09:22

I cant remember I remember his wife appeared well his ex wife was that the last series ? but he didnt want her back in the end,
