Do we really have the time that you have Nige?
Does he ever cook for more than one?

Raymond gets on my nerves with his 'voila!' every other second. But then I find myself waiting for it. Like a dripping tap.

God yes - him and his bloody 'suppahs' thrown together with leftovers that cost more than my weekly food bill and freshly picked herbs. It's all very pretty and lovely and twee to look at, but not the way that the majority of the UK lives.

I do love his kitchen but can't help thinking it's badly designed - he always has to traipse across the whol room to get his tins of smoked paprika.

All food must come in brown paper. His kitchen is a Morrison's- cellophane-wrapped free-zone

He comes across as really smug and a bit creepy. His food doesn't excite me so even if I could afford the ingredients and the time, I wouldn't try his recipes.

I'm not really sure who his fanbase is.

And his little forays into the herb garden. And the just 'throwing' things together. Can he do faffless cooking? Eh eh?

I love him but yet...I agree with all of the above. I just love dribbling at his kitchen and all his lovely pans and utensils. But it annoys me the way he never peels or chops things probably, just hacks it all up like a bit of a ham-fisted oaf, leaving stalks and bits of core in apples etc.

Be more precise Nigel, please. Hmm

I have ALL of his books though

Oh, don't be mean! He's lovely. All the brown paper, fancy garden, herbs and nice delis are aspirational - I don't think we're supposed to cook like that every night!

The ceremonial, almost pornagraphic unwrapping of two fat slices of pancetta wrapped in brown paper and tied with string, that probably cost about 12 quid always makes me laff.

I really, really, really, really, really CANNOT STAND Nigel Slater.

There's something about him that makes me physically recoil. Just tried watching him on BBC1 and I had to turnover.

I'm not sure what it is. The greasy hair? The creepy air about him? The smuggery? The word "supper"? His poncey North London lifestyle full of delis and boutique bakeries where even the MINCE comes lovingly wrapped in paper?

Sorry Nige, I really wanted to like you but I can't.

Oh, I love him and his cooking. I love that there's no real recipe, and everything is uncomplicated enough to remember. Just some ideas of a few things that might go well together. Also love his kitchen and garden.

Only thing I agree with really is perhaps he could share the meal at the end more often with someone else ? ..... Me ?!!!

(lots of other chefs do this too, like Rick Stein ... prepare a delicious meal and then just eat it by themselves in the kitchen without even sitting down Hmm - seems a shame not to share it with others and hear some appreciation of its delights ?)

Rick stein is much much worse.

It's not real cooking. It's aspirational. To be watched whilst necking a waitrose ready meal. .

Oh I love Rick Stein. His books are great but although I do watch him ont' telly he is such a bloody old curmudgeon I wish he'd cheer up a bit.

I cook like that. Random bits foraged from the reduced counter depths of the fridge and the herb pots of supermarket herbs planted in the garden with a few naice reduced bits from the deli.

But I always have someone to eat it with. Me on my own and it doesn't get more exotic than boiled eggs and toast for dinner. I feel a bit sad for him :(
