Hi all. Shiny new thread. Smile

That was unsettling to watchHmm

PetiteRaleuse · 08/02/2013 09:57

Oh she looks so sad. Poor woman. I feel quite uncomfortable having watched that.

oldraver · 08/02/2013 09:58

I dont know much about body language.....but when I see a man that 'leans' into a woman when he's sitting next to her (and I realise this can be done in a lovey dovey way) when they are being filmed...I want to screech "sit up straight, give her space and stop invading hers"

ifso · 08/02/2013 09:58

grass aint always greener is it

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2013 09:58

I feel really strange after watching that. She wasn't happy, you could tell. Sad

Can't quite believe how first impressions at the start of the programme was so different to how we all felt by the end!

susiedaisy · 08/02/2013 10:00

Yes I feel a bit odd, think I need to go and keep busy to take my mind off of it, poor lady

ifso · 08/02/2013 10:01

even though it seems like their life is simpler now in oz, what because they are both living a healthier lifestyle, on the outside yes, they look healthier, but internally mentally she is worse off.

Plus their life is now MORE complicated as the kids are now integrated aussies almost. with a very unhappy mother. if she wanted to move back to uk, and he didnt, it could end up very messy.

susiedaisy · 08/02/2013 10:02

Would interesting to revisit in 5 years wouldn't it

ifso · 08/02/2013 10:03

living in a beautiful box, in sunshine.

yet no real connections to mates there, no real support network, just phoney bbqs and coffee mornings. mmm. bit odd.

i need to go off and hoover now, visitors coming! i feel very unsettled having watched that one.

SomeBear · 08/02/2013 10:04

That was uncomfortable viewing. I didn't enjoy today's episode at all, I have a horrible feeling they will be uprooting the children and trying to pick up their old lives in the UK in the next couple of years. Unfortunately life is like a vacuum and the space you leave gets filled so they might well find that home isn't the same either. Sad

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 08/02/2013 12:14

I feel so sad for her after watching that. He is vile. Shame on Niki sounding so positive she should have said it like it is. He is a wanker & we should all say it loud & clear. He is an emotional bully.

Vagndidit · 08/02/2013 12:19

Watching todays on iPlayer. I'm not seeing bully coming from the H. Perhaps a bit unrealistic and lazy, but not manipulative.

Have to say a lot of her experience resonated with me. I moved to the Uk with H's job to have "no regrets" but it hasn't been easy. I can relate to tearful weekends and loneliness and unlike the Aussies, no invites for BBQs from the Norfolk locals

susiedaisy · 08/02/2013 12:25

Have you watched the whole episode yet?

MrsReiver · 08/02/2013 14:17

I've just watched the episode and he is a bully - he just described how he wore her down until she felt backed into a corner. Horrible, controlling man and I agree, she seems so sad.

MrsReiver · 08/02/2013 14:23

Oh and another pet hate of mine - they used the opening to "Pumped Up Kicks" as cheerful backing music. Just because it sounds all perky and upbeat, doesn't mean it is - the song is about a Columbine style school shooting.

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 08/02/2013 14:33

Actually after I watched it I was so angry that I wanted to complain to the bbc that they do not appear to have given any support to the poor woman to leave her emotionally abusive husband. Would anyone know if that was actually possible & for those of us cross about it would it work? Or am I just talking out of my fairly large backside? (On 5:2 so not as large as it was!)

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2013 14:37

I can't stop thinking about her on the first night when she was hysterical. Sad And he was looking at flights home.

newbiefrugalgal · 08/02/2013 14:48

aftereight - me too 5:2!
I haven't watched it but thanks for the commentary, I think I might be glad I missed it.
Sounds like the mum has had a rough run :(

Salbertina · 08/02/2013 15:28

So 3 of us on 5:2 - hover between both and mix up my TDEEs sometimes Wink

Salbertina · 08/02/2013 15:33

But back to the prog- poss low tolerance due to child off sick/fasting but yes, dad seemed rather lazy and pushy. Or maybe she was just super honest (more than others typically who might be face-saving?? ) about how bloody hard it is adapting to life in a new country. Speaking from experience. Grass isn't always greener and as the dad said "be careful what you wish for".

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2013 16:33

I think it's the fact it's on TV that makes it worse. I wonder if at any point the families where one of the parents is keener than the other realise how it comes across? I bet today's didn't make great TV viewing for the Mum's Mother either. Sad

SwedishEdith · 08/02/2013 16:39

This was quite a depressing one, I agree. Did it even say if they'd bought that house or were they still renting. I'd be livid if I was her and actually thought about how I'd ended up in that situation - working whilst he gets fit for the job he never really knew he could actually get anyway, in a country I didn't want to live in. I suppose he did "compromise" on it being Melbourne though.

Wonder if any of them read this thread?

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 08/02/2013 18:51

Couldn't post much this morning as was on a little tablet thing, anyway, this mornings episode was awful, he was so controlling to her, outwardly admitting that he wore her down, he said something along the line of, 'she has her friends, job and parents that's she loves here, how can I compete' along with his tone it was actually scary. Of course it could have been edited to look as though he was EA but........

Sparkling, my thought was for her poor mother, parents this morning, my heart broke a little for them.

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 08/02/2013 19:09

The more I think about the more I think 'evil little runt'
