I think having the extra judge is a good idea but I don't like the people they have chosen as the extra judge so far.

It seems a difficult brief to deliver on unless they use gimmicky presentation for each dish.

The turd on a plate was revolting.

Is it very wrong to hope it gets to the judges chamber so I can see their faces when the waiters take the covers off?

The dog poo thing was just vile. I like toilet humour and am no prude but if that was put in front of me, I would do a definite cats bum face. I would like to see it in front of the judges purely for their reaction Grin

I am also not enjoying the brief this year. It needs to go back to less gimmicks and more about good food.

I liked the look of Stphanie's starter - and that 'poo' was extremely strange!

way to ruin a fish course- with a load of pork. Grrr.

The salmon one looked beautiful. Where was the joke/humour? Some of the chefs don't seem to even try to fill the brief (and I can't say I blame them)

I liked the custard pie idea but I never get the fish course anyway as it never appeals Blush

Raahh · 20/02/2013 08:40

I want someone to use pollock in their fish course, and call it 'Never mind the pollocks'. It could be served with a large nappy pin through it's head, and a mohawk made of water cress.

I'd laugh at that.Grin

I'm pretty certain the only reason there is a fish course at all is so they can have 4 programmes plus a final each week. A coffee and cheese course would be less entertaining. Some ludicrous amuse bouche thing to begin with would probably be more interesting than a fish course though.

raah for the banquet! Love it Grin

Ok, they are completely ignoring the brief today. I get it's not a great brief but at least make the effort.

Bit meh today.

I am not impressed by this week so far. I can see me stopping watching unless it improves.

At least Charlie (?) tried to fill the brief even though I thought the result was awful. The kidneys were raw!! And I really would rather have a kebab from my local take away which is saying something. It was all a bit grim, I thought

So Colin is totally ignoring the brief and scoring highly.
Charlie has spectacularly misjudged the brief (dog poo? Rough kebab?) and is scoring low.
Steph has worked hard on the brief but isn't quite on top of either food or humour.

Wonder what the judges will think! We know that Jason is another judge who favours the brief-ignorer.

Raahh · 21/02/2013 09:33

I only saw snippets of last night- what I saw didn't look great.
Charlie seems to have taken over where Steph left off last year- he's trying to hit the brief, but the 'humour' isn't funny, and the results are a mess.

It's not a great week.

Is it me or is putting dry ice actually into the food quite dangerous?

Report
ThePavlovianCat · 21/02/2013 19:55

Tony's sugarwork was so much better than Steph's

Report
Bilbobagginstummy · 22/02/2013 17:33

Tony was totally ROBBED though. Sad

Report
ThePavlovianCat · 22/02/2013 17:51

Yes he was.

I hope the next batch of chefs produce something more interesting.

I think Colin may win this.

I haven't liked the competitiveness this week- hasn't seemed good humoured, more goady.

I like Tim Brooke-Taylor.

Steph is holding her own- I think Colin is rattled

Report
Raahh · 22/02/2013 20:08

Sad Poor Steph. When it came to judging, I think it was a close thing. I'm not sure I like Colin- he made mistakes, he didn't do that well- he wasn't funny (apart from maybe pudding). He seemed to just expect to win.

i do hope next week is better!

Stephen seemed like a really lovely person, someone I would like to eat dinner with. She was so upset at losing but still gracious.
