Borgen Series 2

Anyone else looking forward to this starting tomorrow night (BBC4, 9pm)?

I loved the first series and have been using serious willpower to stop myself buying the second series or looking up spoilers online (Denmark and some other countries are a year ahead of us). Have to confess that I have read some articles which give info of some of the plot lines but I won't put on any spoilers other than to say that it sounds good but a bit hard going at times, a lot darker than series 1.

Seriously don't think I've ever been this excited about a television programme, I actually wish the BBC would just show one episode a week rather than two back to back to draw it out for longer!

Agree with you all, what a powerful couple of episodes - again the universal and the personal brilliantly written about - the role of world peacemaker - wonderful to see Birgitte looking temporarily elated then horribly deflated in the space of a few hours.

I feel very torn watching the Laura story - am so glad that the writers have brought such a complex illness to our screens, it is a relief to have it out there and for people to realise how devestating it is - it is all a bit near the bone for me having been through something very similar with my own daughter, and I sobbed for the family at the end sitting in that corridor - the effect on Magnus having to watch his sister spiral down, and the seeming unawareness of all the adults getting on with their own lives and preoccupations whilst it happens. Agree - Philip should have been there all the time for her, and the au pair ( lovely but very young) should not have been left to cope with this on her own - as a parent the guilt watching your child deal with this pressure is overwhelming - another tough call for women who 'want it all' - career vs family life etc, children taking the consequences of adult decisions. Laura had really been carrying this burden of responsibility for a long., long time, she has acted the part very realistically and convincingly. In the end I had to give my job up to help my child, wonder whether this is going to be the writers story for Birgitte.

Good to see Bent back again, was rather worried he would have a relapse in Africa or something. Very relieved he got back ok.

Also nice to see Kasper and Katrine together and happy, how long will it last?

Final two episodes though next week already Sad

Watched the 2 episodes on consecutive days. What a triumph for Birgitte and co - then no time to savour it, plunged into desperate worry over Laura.

I understand the desire for Laura to feel in control but it did cross my mind when she lied to her father about taking her tablet that first time, was she deliberately risking her health to get Birgitte and Philip together?

Glad Kasper and Katrine struck a life/work balance.

Torben looked quite out of his depth with Birgitte, Katrine and Hanne!

Nothing to add here really except I absolutely savoured the 2 mins or so that Birgitte was allowed to feel on top of the world.

Happy for K&K - hoping it lasts til the end of series.

Going back in the thread a bit, I do think a Katrine pregnancy is on the cards- it will be a fitting absolution for kaspar trying to grow out of his childhood and subsequent unhealthy coping strategies. And Katrine had that funny conversation with Hanne on get birthday and mentioned kids.

Don't like Philip at the mo- he's not good enough for Birgitte as it stands. He absolutely should hAve stayed over more than 1 night.

Last episodes next week, sob!

Aw thanks Donkey! Am slowly getting there Smile

Can't believe it will all be over soon. Wish they would spread the episodes out more (one Sat, one Tues would be perfect). Have heard talk of The Bridge 2 - anyone know more? I need my Scandi Saturday fix!

Thanks Tee!

Just watched the last episodes, just wow! The second episode was like a mini film, the scope was so wide.

I agree that Phillip needs to be around for his kids a bit more, mail most all the domestic responsibility seems to fall on Birgitte.

It is such a refreshing novelty to see women centre stage, but not perfect IYSWIM. All of the women in the programme are hugely impressive, but human too. This doesn't hamper their ability to be instrumental and powerful. I had to laugh at the scene with Birgitte, Torben, Hanne and Katrine. The way that Hanne cut Torben off was priceless. Nice to see the shoe in the other foot for a change.

I've been reading the thread but always behind as I don't normally get to watch until at least a few days after so I rarely comment.

I think the absence of Philip was purely for the storyline and a little bit too convenient. In the first episode of this 2 parter, Birgitte dropped on him with no notice that she was going to Africa and he stayed, no question and slept on the sofa. This time he wasn't even mentioned and the au pair was staying. No mention of what he was doing.

However, I still love the program and think its one of the best things that's been on TV and DH is away tomorrow night :-) so I can watch it with my glass of red!!

{Social etiquette}
Is it rude having accepted an invitation round to some other couple's for dinner to ask if we could eat our meal on trays on our laps in front of "Borgen"?....yes?.. no? Grin

Perfectly acceptable, Donkeys. In fact, you could even take your jammies so you're comfier when you're watching it. Wink

Donkeys Surely it can be assumed that this is what your hosts have planned anyway? Why else would you invite people round in Borgen Finale night?! Grin

I'm not watching tonight as have the screening and Q&A with Sidse tomorrow. We have the last 3 episodes of Homeland still to watch so filling up Saturday night with those instead. Not sure what/who I'm more excited about seeing tomorrow the last 2 eps or Sidse...(kidding, it's seeing Birgette/Sidse of course!)

Apparently The Bridge 2 isn't going to be shown until Autumn (it was Spring last year) so a long wait and then it will be Borgen 3 the following January. Feels a bit like we're running out of Scandinavian drama as I've not read anything about anything new they've still to send us. Spiral 4 starts on BBC4 next week, I've only seen a few episodes of S1 - those who have seen first 3 series - can I jump in or do I need the backstory?

Enjoy tonight's episodes everyone, I'll be back with a report after my Statsminister experience Smile

This grand finale can only be topped by the statsminister advertising shirts for Boden. That would have the mums creaming themselves.

right - just catching up on posts since last week.

guinea am glad your daughter is better and hope you think the writers dealt with it sensitively?
MooMin hope your recovery still going well
Donkeys can't believe someone would be so insensitive to invite you around tonight without it being for the express purpose of joint enjoyment of Borgen 2 Shock

Feck it, it's great to have Birgitte in the driving seat again. Philip is trying to snuffle around again and she knows it. Laura is getting better. She has surprised everyone by calling the election when she's in with a shot. They have almost given her a happy ending - Wine and un-mn {{hugs}} for everyone Grin

Hey Teej!

Recovery slower then I would like, but after watching Birgitte wipe the floor with everyone I'm inspired to do the same with my feeble ailments Wink

What a woman, wonderful episodes. Wanted to cry and rage with her when the paparazzi were harassing poor Laura (excellent acting by her), then pump my fists in the air when Feeble Phil announced he'd dumped Cecilia (with an air of expectation - idiot)and at her speech at the end.
Phew!

And KatPer/KasTrine are going to have a baby (hopeful).

And slimy Laugesen was made to squirm for a change - hope something really horrid happens to him next series.

Need a lie down now!
