Just starting a new thread before tonight's elimination, as I'm sure we'll all have something to say about that.

OP posts:
digerd · 04/12/2012 17:17

oops "uproared", if there is such a word?

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2012 17:22

It was what I studied at Teacher Training and taught obviously (not exclusively though Xmas Smile). You digerd?

digerd · 04/12/2012 17:23

ppeat
As long as I have watched it , and she was also on a panel of judges for dancers who had to preform all different styles, mostly stage dance, but also ballroom. She is lovely, not critical, but always gives constructive advice, and does not put them down.
No, I don't like that noise grating music to some types of modern dance either. or the choreography.

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2012 17:24

You have invented a new word that fits the audience at SCD Xmas Grin

digerd · 04/12/2012 17:24

oops- eyes going again " perform".

digerd · 04/12/2012 17:26

Yes ppeat - brain going as well - getting too old.!

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2012 17:32

Sorry I'm a bit confused I asked if Craig has been a judge since the start and you said 'she' are you thinking of someone else?

franklyidontgiveadamn · 04/12/2012 17:45

Maybe thought you were talking about Carrie Ann on DWS peat? CRH has been in SCD since the start.

digerd · 04/12/2012 17:55

ppeat
Yes, I assumed you were talking about Carrie Ann - not the gorgeous Craig. Don't think the americans would have him. The previous judges hardly critised at all and often overmarked, but the audience and viewers loved that.

RedZombie · 04/12/2012 17:58

Ppeatfruit - original line up was Craig, Bruno, Len and Arlene Philips. Arlene was sacked left after a few years because she's old and was replaced by Alesha Dixon who won as a sleb a few years before.
Last year Alesha left to go to Britains got Talent and was replace this year by Darcey.

The show has got steadily more glitzy and showbizzy. I think the first series was only on for about 4 weeks.

digerd · 04/12/2012 18:03

Can't remember when SCD started, but I've seen all of them, Arlene Phillips was also there. But think the 3 men were never replaced by someone younger!! Even though Bruno and Craig seem to have the Peter Pan Syndrome

ppeatfruit · 04/12/2012 18:11

Thanks for the info digerd and redzombie I reckon the botox medics do very well out of those judges!! and presenters just remembered the smooth foreheads of Tess and claudia! Let alone Bruce's the toupee manuf.Xmas Grin

I going off line now for supper,Eggheads and STT !!

digerd · 04/12/2012 18:13

I trained in ballet from 6 -18, from 16, I learned jazz dance too, but was West Side Story style - not street dance/jazz which I could never do as not me.

In my 30s I did a B'ed degree in dance and drama. The children called me Miss elastic, but years on I feel like Miss "cast in stone" !!

franklyidontgiveadamn · 04/12/2012 18:14

Still haven't recovered from the shock of Bruno being 57 but I would have guessed Craig's age correctly I think. I liked Arlene on the whole and think she was treated very shabbily but she did seem a bit swamped by the strong personalities of the men. Perhaps for the next series they could have a celeb female guest judge each week instead of Darcy. They could have women with a bit more humour and who aren't afraid of going against the audience.

digerd · 04/12/2012 18:16

ps
Saw my physio yesterday who remaked that I have very good posture and poise still at my age < even if everything else is falling to bits> >

digerd · 04/12/2012 18:24

Frankly

I liked Arlene and always agreed with her and she held her own with the men.
Loved Alisha's dancing that year when she won. Her sheer joy of dancing shone like beams of sunshine, and was a delight to watch.

10 mins to ITT - don't like the eggheads - but they were beaten yesterday.

franklyidontgiveadamn · 04/12/2012 18:24

Good for you digerd Xmas Smile

franklyidontgiveadamn · 04/12/2012 18:28

Oh yes, Alisha was fantastic wasn't she? And for once you really felt she'd been on 'a journey' - she had been through some crap times and came out absolutely triumphant. Her relationship with Matthew was so sweet as well. She didn't really seem to work that well as a judge tho' - too serious, like all the females.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 04/12/2012 19:03

I loathed Arlene. Nothing to do with her age, she was just so appallingly rehearsed, and towards the end her comments bore no relationship to the dance she'd just seen, they were just the hook to hang her pre-written spiel. Her letching over the better looking male dancers was also less than edifying (I know we do it constantly from time to time on here, but we're not being paid to make dance criticism).

Alesha, once she'd got into her stride, had the ability to speak spontaneously. Ditto Craig, who does appear to say what he actually thinks. Bruno does things purely for effect, but I find him entertaining. Len just pisses me off generally.

RedZombie · 04/12/2012 19:03

Alwaha waa brilliant

And Matthew Cutler - them were the days. MIL still hasn't recovered from him leaving!

RedZombie · 04/12/2012 19:05

Er, Alesha,, obviously.
Brilliant at the dancing stuff, so so at the judging.

AdesteFiderer · 04/12/2012 19:10

I preferred Arlene to Alesha and Darcy.

Karen Hardy would be a great judge, anyone know why she wasn't asked? Watching her on ITT is always interesting, more dance info and less sequined gushing enthusiasm.

franklyidontgiveadamn · 04/12/2012 19:17

Why wasn't Karen Hardy asked? I suspect for the same reason Arlene was elbowed out Adeste...

digerd · 04/12/2012 19:29

Karen Hardy would be great, and then half of the panel would be trained and be experts in ballroom and latin, instead of just Len. Craig and Bruno are trained in stage/show dance, and Darcy in classical ballet.

Nicky actually looked straight at Karen several times on ITT today- turned head head right round to the side. Must have read our comments??

digerd · 04/12/2012 19:30

opps " his head" - hungry and waiting for dinner to be ready.
