susiedaisy · 30/03/2013 00:18

Wow Merle got his comeuppance in the end!

CheerfulYank · 30/03/2013 02:31

I bawled for Daryl. (Pregnancy hormones and all)

TwllBach · 30/03/2013 08:27

Right I've managed to avoid reading the thread and I've just put it on. I'm so excited for it Grin but I have seen a few little words here and there about people feeling sorry for daryl so I've got my tissues ready Grin

TwllBach · 30/03/2013 08:30

Whaaaaaat? I'm confused - I thought they were going to fight??

TwllBach · 30/03/2013 08:35

Loved that conversation between merle and carol

"You're a late bloomer."
"maybe you are too."

susiedaisy · 30/03/2013 08:41

Keep watching twi all will be revealed Wink

TwllBach · 30/03/2013 09:08

Shock he's got merle

Either on this thread or the other one someone asks if merle is suicidal. I think he is.

limitedperiodonly · 30/03/2013 09:08

Poor Daryl, sobbing his heart out. His eyes are going to get even more puffy.

And to think I thought Prince William giving Kate his dead mum's engagement ring was macabre... Grin

TwllBach · 30/03/2013 09:19

I'm not too sure what I think about ricks little speech there. It's seems an awful lot like he's opting out. He made the wrong decision and now he's laying the next big decision all on the group when he has spent quite a while making them for them.

I'm not sure if I don't think he went to merle knowing exactly that would happen therefore ensuring he's not the bad guy.

And that was a lovely piece of acting from daryl - the little sort of child like flinch with his shoulder. I luffs him Grin

limitedperiodonly · 30/03/2013 09:56

Rick's been like that all the way through. He wants to be in charge because he's one of those people who think if they're in charge nothing will go wrong, but then he resents the others for relying on him.

He wasn't quite like that in this speech. It was more a plea for someone else to share the burden. Of course, he'd hate for that to happen and would sulk until everyone said: 'Oh, if it means that much we'll do it your way again.'

DH is like this. It's just about bearable, but if we were living in a post-apocalyptic world, I'd join the zombies. They're untidy and chaotic but their life is simple and no one bosses them about.

susiedaisy · 30/03/2013 09:56

Not sure I'd want an engagement ring off of a walker, unless it was symbolic gesture from Glenn and maggie won't actually wear it!

OhMyGlob · 30/03/2013 11:21

But now no one will know that Merle tried to do the right thing in the end. They will all think he was trying to join the govener again :(

NoHank · 30/03/2013 11:34

I think they will know. Michonne will tell them that he let her go and I think they all know that there would be no chance of the governor taking him back. I think that's why he did it. He knew after what he had done to Maggie and Glen that no matter what he did they would never accept him and also that Darly belonged with them now. So I think he was trying to redeem himself a little by trying to take the governor out for them.

Daryl just gets better and better. Loved how at the beginning he told Rick he didn't agree with his plan for Michonne. And the final scene at the end when he found Merle was just heartbreaking.

And aww and a bit eeww for Glenn and Maggie [busmile] (That's my Easter inspired wedding hat)

limitedperiodonly · 30/03/2013 11:42

I had trouble with Merle's accent. I had to use subtitles. Was he telling Michonne that it was the Governor who rescued him from the roof?

I think Glenn would always think badly of him but the others might wonder because he let Michonne go and gave her the sword after that soul-searching conversation. Carol would probably speak up for him too. Daryl might have seen the bullet wound and got a clue from that.

It's sad but more realistic that you'd never know. And Merle didn't fit in anywhere any more.

limitedperiodonly · 30/03/2013 11:45

x-post.

Was it all a bit Easter-like, with lots of references to sacrifice for the good of others? Or am I over-thinking? [bugrin]

NoHank · 30/03/2013 11:54

Merle escaped himself from the roof by cutting his own hand off and then at some point after that (not sure how long after) he met up with the governor who I'm guessing offered him security and a home in exchange for his services. He told Michonne he had killed 16 men since the walkers appeared. All of these after he met the governor - I think the point being he carried out his dirty work in payment for the governor taking him in.

I agree, Merle didn't fit anywhere, so he chose to try and help his brother the best way he could in the end. Merle would know no matter what, the governor was going to come after them so he tried to take as many out as possible first.

No, no particular Easter references I can think off, it's just they don't have a hat emoticon and the bunny ears were the closest looking thing!!!

TwllBach · 30/03/2013 13:25

he tried to take as many out as possible first.

Oooh, yes, I thought that. He could have gone straight to Woodbury and tried to get the Governor but he went to the place where he thought all those men would be. He tried to take out the men that were the fighters IIRC?

Didn't he and Daryl have a conversation about Merle leaving Daryl with his shitty dad/step dad? Merles last act was to try and save his brother Sad

CheerfulYank · 30/03/2013 15:36

Has anyone seen the movie Bastard Out of Carolina? It's horrible and sad, about a little girl whose stepdad beats and molests her regularly. In one scene her aunt sees her welts and bruises and screams for her husband Earl, and he and the other uncles absolutely pound the piss out of the step dad. It's immensely satisfying. Anyway, Earl is played by Merle :o so I always felt a bit of liking for him even when I didn't want to. Also his voice and accent sound exactly like my late grandfather, who was definitely one of my favorite people to ever walk the earth. So...bit of a soft spot for ol' Merle, even when I loathed him!

I did think it was a bit religious-y in some parts, and when Merle was trying to hotwire the car and the cross-shaped key chain was in his face... (might have been a rosary, I'm going to watch it again with DH and I'll look.)

I like how Daryl asked Michonne "did you kill him?" I don't think he would have blamed her if she had. And also when Daryl tells Rick "not saying that was the wrong call, but this is sure the right one" after Rick decides it's the wrong thing to hand over Michonne.

I love Merle's interactions with Carol and Michonne, and Michonne's little talk about truly evil men not carrying the weight of their actions. I think the whole episode was a really interesting look at moral quandaries in general, and a look at the nature of evil. And stuff and things. :o

I took Rick's speech at face value, really. When he made his "this is not a democracy speech" that was what the group needed at the time. Now they're all much better at surviving in the world and their input is needed.

I'm really nervous about tomorrow's episode...someone is going to have to die.
:( If I had to pick....Beth. I'm going with Beth! I have an awful feeling it'll be Glenn though.

CheerfulYank · 30/03/2013 15:38

Ooooh, and Merle came so close to getting the Governor! Stupid kid in the way!
