Does anyone else cringe when they see the advert for SJP's new perfume Lovely?

How can she advertise it by gurning at the camera?

YES YES YES!!! Hate the bloody thing - and who the hell would think of calling a perfume Lovely?

has anyone had a sniff of it?

Dh and I always snigger - is it an advert or a health warning?

It needed soft focus, or shooting from a long long distance.

Poor soul, she can't help her bone structure but she was VERY badly advised to go with this I think. She does say "on the inside", mind...

you'd have thought that some technical whizz wouldve softened her features abit and made her look less haggered

I always struggle with "beautiful on the inside" I think I take it too literally and start wondering what is so beautiful about the inner workings of the intestines/lungs/stomach

i like her - but she aint half Fugly

I do too Custy, I just wince when she is gambolling about in pretty khaki (WTF?) and advertising gurly scent. I think with bones like that she should go with the reality of the situation and do a stark, striking, Mrs Danvers/Edith Sitwell look, not cling pathetically to frou-frou.

think theres a great french phrase for this - jolie laide - or something, which I was told meant pretty ugly (but in a nice way). She fits.

dreadful camera angle tho "thats it love, chin up a bit, stretch that neck, nose to the side, look constipated for me darlin, aaaand HOLD IT... lovely"

It's her hands that get me

its a very nice scent though

The first time I saw that advert I jumped out of my skin when I saw her, I was expecting some little girly model, and she looked like a really bad drag queen.

I do like to see non-stereotypically-beautiful women in the media, though.
She has 'something' about her, doesn't she?

Gosh - hark at us ! I have been guilty of looking at that ad and commenting that she looks - shall we say less than lovely.

However i chastize my dp for 'whinnying at the tv' and clling her a 'canine'

I think she does Pruni. She gets a lot of work too, and that suggests to me that in the absence of conventional "nice" looks she must be an extremely professional, pleasant person to work with. I just sort of wish she would stop labouring the breathless feminine stuff and capitalise on her quirky, strong looks instead.

It wouldn't sell if it was called Gurning Horse Face though.

I agree with Pruni. I do admire those unconventionally attractive women who have convinced the world that they've got that special something (perhaps it's just confidence).

I like the smell of it, but am always put off by celeb "pushed" fragrances.

thing is, she can look great. So, as Marine says, why try to be all fluffy and feminine, and allow such gruesome close-ups? Heard her interviewed on the radio yesterday and she was very nice

She seems to appeal to women more than men, my p is awful about her he is convinced that the ad is a joke,he doesn't get the 'style icon' thing she has going on..... she is stylish i think and skinny

its the pink girlyness that gets me. She'd look better in something less... twee.
