The thing is, Anton is a ballroom specialist. Hold and frame I'd have thought would have been something he'd drum into her!

PanonOlympus · 14/10/2012 22:58

MrsJay - I think Come Dancing was a 1970's thing. Possibly even 1960's. Loved the way they'd introduce the dancers (male) by occupation: "And here is Trevor, doing a challenging and exhuberant pasa doble........Trevor works in a chip shop in Grimsby".

PanonOlympus · 14/10/2012 23:01

From Uncle Wiki:

Come Dancing was a BBC TV ballroom dancing competition show that ran on and off from 1949 to 1998, becoming one of television's longest-running shows.

The show was created by Eric Morley, the founder of Miss World, and began in 1949 by broadcasting from regional ballroom studios, with professional dancers Syd Perkin and Edna Duffield on hand to offer teaching.

In 1953 the format changed to become a competition, with later series seeing regions of the United Kingdom going head to head for the coveted trophy.

The many presenters over the years included Peter West, McDonald Hobley, Charles Nove, Terry Wogan, Brian Johnston, Angela Rippon, Michael Aspel, Noel Edmonds, David Jacobs, Judith Chalmers, Pete Murray, and Rosemarie Ford. Commentators included Ray Moore and Bruce Hammal.

In 2004, a re-launched celebrity version entitled Strictly Come Dancing, hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, debuted on BBC One, and became a popular hit on Saturday evenings. The format of the newer show has been successfully exported to other countries under the name Dancing with the Stars.

I don't remember Come Dancing (too young Wink) but I do recall watching a video of a youngish Len dancing on it, possibly doing a Jive.

digerd · 15/10/2012 19:12

Anyone old enough to remember Brucie and Janet Ball - 60s. dancing ballet. Brucie wore black tights and Janet in white flowing dress- it was in black and white on out TV? He was very good. Do remember the old Come Dancing now, but it was for amateurs mainly and the dancing nothing like it is today. I used to like the Old Tyme, which is not done anymore. Just watched ITT

FrankelSaysRelax · 15/10/2012 19:53

My teacher still teaches/exams Modern and Classical Sequence, is that what you mean digerd?

iklboo · 15/10/2012 19:54

Marking place so I can find thread!

NapOfTheDamned · 16/10/2012 01:54

Me too.

Expat watchng it days later and missing home.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 16/10/2012 06:13

It bugs me that everyone's doing different dances. I wish they'd go back to celebs doing either a Latin or a ballroom but the same one. Everyone chacha's or waltzes this week. Everyone salsas or American smooths next week. If you had a Latin this week, you'll ballroom next. At least they've abandoned the boy girl nonsense and gone back to everyone getting to do two dances of each type before voting. Annoyed that dance off had returned. The judges shouldn't get two says in who stays or goes. Wonder if johnny or Richard was at the very bottom?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 16/10/2012 09:02

I agree, dazzling! It's hard to compare dances if everyone's doing different ones. I don't know if they think viewers will get bored if they have to sit through everyone doing the same dance or something???

Don't like the dance-off either. The judges may know more about dance than the public, but it's the public who watch, vote and make the show work; we deserve more of the power than them.

TheAngelshavetheOod · 16/10/2012 09:12

Without the dance off you get good dancers going and Ann Widdecombe staying.

Interesting conversations on BBC breakfast regarding DVO

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 16/10/2012 09:49

But that's the viewers' choice. Viewers/voters do know that people like Ann W can't dance; they're not stupid ? they don't need the judges to tell them who's good and who's bad. It's about popularity as well as dancing.

And it always plays out the same ? someone rubbish/the 'novelty' dancer gets a decent run and stays for a while, but eventually gets kicked out when viewers get serious and start supporting the better dancers instead.

ppeatfruit · 16/10/2012 10:02

In SOOO many progs. not just SCD the producers seem to think that we'd get bored if e.g. all the dancers did the same dance. That's actually a very good idea 'cos the public can then see how good or bad each couple is. I just saw yr namelady Grin we seem to watch similar things don't we?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 16/10/2012 10:28

Hello ppeat! Yes, we do 'bump into' each other quite a lot when it comes to telly.

Meant to ask, Angels ? what was the DVO/BBC Breakfast conversation?

TheAngelshavetheOod · 16/10/2012 11:04

They were interviewingJohnny & talking about other competitors. DvO was discussed with Bill talking about her previous stage experience giving her an advantage and Johnny trying to be tactful. Didn't come across like any of them particularly liked her as Lisa got the opposite reaction.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 16/10/2012 11:20

Interesting! I had a feeling she might be a beee-yatch; there's been at least one 'slebs you've met' thread on here where people didn't have kind things to say about her.

And of course MN is the fount of all wisdom and never wrong. Grin

ppeatfruit · 16/10/2012 12:15

I've heard that as well Lady not just on here Grin did you notice the way she deliberately ignored Tess after her showy jive ?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/10/2012 12:34

Denise was taking the mick out of James on ITT last week, he didn't look impressed, I always think he has a bit of a sense of humour failure. Out of all the male professionals he's my least favourite.

RedBlanket · 16/10/2012 21:35

I noticed Denise put her arm round Tess and she pushed her away. Hmm.

ppeatfruit · 17/10/2012 10:04

Obviously something negative has gone on between DVO and Tess behind the scenes Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 17/10/2012 15:35

I didn't notice that between Tess and DVO, no! Will keep my eyes peeled from now on.

Mrsjay · 17/10/2012 15:38

tess probably didn't want DVO face in her shot thats all they are supposed to stand on their mark, I don't think there is tension sorry

Idreamofsunshine · 17/10/2012 15:42

How lovely was Iveta, I'd like to see her join the show permanently as she seemed so sweet and nice to Johnny.

tkband3 · 17/10/2012 15:46

They had the same set of questions on Radio 5 yesterday morning when they interviewed Johnny and Iveta (who does seem lovely - much prefer her to Aliona!)...maybe the BBC has some sort of agenda or is just trying to stir up some anti-Denise feeling for some reason?

gettingeasier · 20/10/2012 16:46

I have just done my first week working full time and my throbbing feet and I are looking forward to tonight Smile

I havent seen any Take Two or gossip , anything I should know ?
