What series should I get obsessed about?!

I love love love getting myself immersed in great (usually American) tv series when I'm pottering around the kitchen or enjoying nights in on my own and I've just got to the end of my most recent obsession - Grey's Anatomy! Can anyone suggest a great series that I might not have tried?

The kind of stuff I love is...

West Wing
ER
Good Wife
Desperate Housewives
True Blood
24
Six Feet Under
The Wire
Sopranos
etc...

Thanks Smile

Homeland
The newsroom

highlandcoo · 02/10/2012 14:17

The Killing ( series 1 is best) and Borgen.

Scandinavian with subtitles but don't let that put you off!

redlac · 02/10/2012 14:19

Dexter
The Killing
The Bridge
Borgen
Homeland

Bongaloo · 02/10/2012 14:20

Breaking Bad

TheSurgeonsMate · 02/10/2012 14:26

Buffy. It's quality telly, I tell you.

Subtitles no good for pottering - you have to sit and watch it.

Elasticsong · 02/10/2012 14:34

Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
Dexter

SuperB0F · 02/10/2012 14:36

Breaking Bad, without a doubt. And Homeland.

My DVD of Boardwalk Empire arrived today- I can't wait to get started on that tonight Grin

whatkungfuthat · 02/10/2012 14:36

I like Person of Interest on one of the '5' channels.

Does anyone know if Breaking Bad is on Virgin catch-up? I've just got Virgin and I'm not used to navigating it yet.

jeee · 02/10/2012 14:38

Prison Break.

Can anyone explain why it's worth perservering with Breaking Bad? DH and I have just given up after episode 3. It was gory, but far worse, incredibly boring. I presume it gets better, because everyone raves about it.... but I can't see where it can go.

naturalbaby · 02/10/2012 14:39

Dexter. The latest series started in America the other night and I'm itching with desperation to see it.

I think the next Homeland starts soon on Channel 4 so get a move on if you're going to watch the first series!

spanky2 · 02/10/2012 14:42

Mad men

Downton abbey
24

HiHowAreYou · 02/10/2012 15:03

I might try homeland next.

fertilityFTW · 02/10/2012 15:05

Have to say West Wing and Battlestar Galactica are my forever Top 2!

EasyFromNowOn · 02/10/2012 16:33

Justified

Sons of Anarchy

julietbat · 02/10/2012 17:15

Great, thank you! Much food for thought. I've been wanting to watch The Killing for a good while now but I know my expertise doesn't extend to pottering and reading subtitles at the same time, more's the pity Grin

Downton and Homeland are excellent choices but I simply forgot to add them to my original list - I'm already addicted to both of them! And very excited about Homeland starting again next week.

Think I might have to go for Dexter... (although Breaking Bad does sound interesting too...!) I'd already heard lots of good things about it and it sounds like it might be my thing.

Thanks again, everyone Smile

not LOST

My DH watched it on "LoveFilm".
Every blessed episode, sometimes 4-5 episodes a night (there are Confused however many episodes over 6 (million) series)

And the Grand Finale was a bit Hmm - No Spoilers Here Grin

Great thread, marking place for when dc arrives in January! does anyone have any comedy/drama suggestions? I'm not into
Crime/politics/legal series.

whatkungfuthat · 02/10/2012 17:41

Ooh yes, Justified

GlesgaRocket · 02/10/2012 18:42

Another vote for Breaking Bad, Dexter and Boardwalk Empire.
Excellent, excellent, excellent.

GlesgaRocket · 02/10/2012 18:43

SilverSixpence - have you seen Curb Your Enthusiasm? If not, give that a go.

PuffPants · 02/10/2012 18:44

For some light relief, how about Modern Family?

paddlepie · 02/10/2012 18:46

The Newsroom if you liked The West Wing. Homeland and Sons of Anarchy are good shouts too.

PurpleAlert · 02/10/2012 19:04

Damages
Homeland
House
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire
Gilmore Girls

BlingBubbles · 02/10/2012 19:09

If you like greys, then try private practice and scandal.

scarlettsmummy2 · 02/10/2012 19:10

Can't believe no one has suggested 'revenge', it's fab!
