I have watched about 5 episodes of season 1 and am struggling to get into it. I love American politics ( Daily Show is my fav show ) but feel it hasn't dated well.. Is it worth sticking with it? Will it get better it ran forever so people must have loved it?

Oh hell yes. Yes!
I think it has held up really well.
If you're finding Season 1 hard to get in to, you might want to try skipping ahead to the first couple of episodes of Season 2. They are dramatic and fascinating and also give you the background of everyone and how they came to be working there. You could then go back and finish off Season 1 before continuing on with Season 2 (which is completely fabulous).
Oh I love West Wing.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 01/10/2012 09:11

YES!! Do stick with it, it is the best thing I have ever seen and am STILL sad it is over! It does look a little dated now, but I essentially just recycle the whole thing over and over (i.e. finish 7 and start 1 again). Persevere, it is wonderful.

overthemill · 01/10/2012 11:04

oh no, you MUST stick with it! I am rewatching from the very beginning at the moment. I think tehre are couple (about when Mrs Bartlett turns up) that are not so pacy but please perservere. It is an intelligent watch and great dialogue.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 01/10/2012 11:05

Absolutely. One of the best tv series ever!

accessorizequeen · 01/10/2012 11:26

Yes, season 1 is very hard to get into. Wait until there is more CJ!

BoerWarKids · 01/10/2012 11:35

Stick with it! It's one of the best TV series ever Smile

BeckAndCall · 01/10/2012 12:22

Oh my goodness! What a thing to say here!

Worth sticking with? Many a MNetter thinks it she best TV ever made, me included.

Just joking with you.... Keep at it and when you've seen it all 7 or more times, you'll know what we mean....

Piggychunk · 01/10/2012 13:07

Wow ok looks like I will give it longer Grin
I have seen so many tv series.. Lost, Sopranos, Wire, True Blood , Madmen , Broadwalk and many more but this has been the longest for me to get into. I will stick with it though!

I have also just got Luther from love film so I am about to start watching that .. Can you tell I don't get out much!

Don't worry, piggy, you're in good company in this section on the 'not getting out much' front!

CelstialNavigation · 01/10/2012 13:20

The real problem with the West Wing is that TV is never the same again - your standards are raised and nothing ever matches up to it again. So you become fated to watch it on a rolling loop through the seasons like MadamGazelle above...

Just apply yourself to watching it. Fall for one of the main characters, that'll help.

BloooCowWonders · 01/10/2012 13:24

can't add anything else - just watch!

And maybe have the subtitles on. Dh and I kept going 'eh?' so put them on and it's even better :)

ajandjjmum · 01/10/2012 13:30

So glad to see this thread. DH and I have watched the first four episodes, and are like looking at each other thinking 'really?!!!' We will stick with it! Smile

FrankelSaysRelax · 01/10/2012 19:11

Oh you must stick with it! It does take a while to get going, and lose the cheesy incidental music, but from about halfway through Season 1 onwards it is nothing short of a Tour de Force Grin

Inertia · 01/10/2012 19:18

Absolutely stick with it. My favourite TV programme ever. Seasons 2- 4 are the best IMO.

If you follow Celestial's advice...

(Spoiler alert!!!!)

... don't do what I did and fall for Sam because heartbreak will follow!

MrsJohnDeere · 01/10/2012 19:50

Yes, you must stick with it! THE best thing ever on TV.

tribpot · 01/10/2012 19:54

Keep going - it's worth it! So many great moments ahead. Has Joey Lucas arrived yet?

LittleBearPad · 01/10/2012 19:56

Definitely stick with it. It was wonderful

chipsandpeas · 01/10/2012 20:02

CalamityKate · 01/10/2012 20:08

What's it about then?

Wolfcub · 01/10/2012 20:14

Yes absolutely stick with it, it gets better in season two when the most annoying character drops off the face of the planet. DH and I watch the whole thing once every year.

Arithmeticulous · 01/10/2012 20:16

Yes!

FrankelSaysRelax · 03/10/2012 08:14

Have you watched any more? At the very least stick with the whole of Season 1. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but you'll want to start Season 2 right after Wink

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 03/10/2012 08:21

wolfcub I know! That character is really annoying.
