Hope no one else hasn't started one

cakebot River got to 1938 but the TARDIS couldn't. She said that it was because the vortex manipulator could sneak through

Pixel, I do like your dd's idea of the Tardis going off to fetch help, Lassie stylie. Grin (The episode where the Doctor 'met' the personification of the Tardis in the shape of Suranne Jones is one of my favourites.)

Feel a bit 'meh' about today's episode tbh - essentially the Doctor asked the ice warrior nicely not to fire a nuclear weapon, and he didn't.

I do like Clara, and am obscurely pleased that apparently the little girl who sang in last week's episode is Aled Jones's dd (so dh tells me).

edam · 13/04/2013 23:53

ooh nice spot re make of car, hope that's true.

Btw, are there any craft enthusiast MNers on the Who threads? Only following links on from the buzzfeed link, I see there are craft people who have made tardis covers for the Kindle but I'm not competent enough to make my own and the only sellers are in America... if anyone has the skills to make a tardis cover, I'd pay you!

teejwood · 14/04/2013 00:08

Mavis DP and I were discussing that last week - the car, I mean. We came to the conclusion that they were similar but not the same. It's another example of plot similarities to what has gone before/re-use, though.

teejwood · 14/04/2013 00:08

Also agree that some of the eps would be better as a 2-parter or longer episode...

BalloonSlayer · 14/04/2013 08:35

Mavisgrind I came on here to mention the car! I thought it was the same one last week (beige Vauxhall viva? Not sure) but I remembered it this week because of Clara's singing of "Hungry Like the Wolf" to the ice warrior last night . . . I think there's going to be a link to Rose bolted on somewhere.

I loved last night's episode, reminded me of Alien/the Thing, I found it nice and scary for 6pm! Grin

Of course I always get annoyed at the logistical things - eg bullets being sprayed all over the place in a submarine? And that water would have been freezing, no one even reacted to it.

streakybacon · 14/04/2013 08:39

Ds noticed that singing saved the day this week and last - a possible link?

SoupDragon · 14/04/2013 08:54

Anyone else sing Hungry Like the Wolf at the appropriate moments?

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 14/04/2013 09:25

I quite liked it! proper old fashioned Dr Who.

It was very frustrating to watch it with my 6 and 7 year old a they just wanted to see the monster and didn't get the extra tension that you get from not quite seeing it Grin. but they did like the Dr coming out of the tardis wearing sunglasses and thinking he was in Vegas!

All very Alien.

AnimatedDad · 14/04/2013 09:39

Yes, shipwrecked. Good to see an old fashioned story without lots of melodrama and dr. Pretending to be a god.

A bit like 'horror of fang rock' (an old Tom baker episode) I thought, but not quite as good..

i don't know how I feel about these episodes. I do agree that the un time is too short. hey seem to rush the conclusion to try and fit it in. I love Who and I think MS is fab. I really want to enjoy it, but for some reason,I'm not feeling it. I enjoyed the first lot of episodes much more. I get the feeling they have listened to the more vocal fans who were moaning about the story arc in series 6. This is what they did in the '80s and it killed the programme.

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 14/04/2013 11:54

I know what you mean.

I am putting it down to the fact that, with a new companion, rapport needs to build up using commonly understood references to back story etc.

I think, for me, it highlights how much of this I took for granted with Amy/Rory/River before they left.

It needs time to develop (I hope) but, in the mean time, some good old fashioned monster-in-a-sub isn't all bad!!

marjproops · 14/04/2013 17:41

agree with the poster who said at least clara stayed with wet/tangled hair, unlike 'operfect because im worth it' amy's hair.

i found the yeti well scary, mainly cos it was in black and white and b &w films and scary tv are more shadowy and scary.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2013 18:00

I had to watch last week's episode again and I think Clara's mother's maiden name was Ravenwood

fancyanother · 15/04/2013 17:31

Amy spent her second episode in her strangely old fashioned nightie covered head to toe in Whale sick!

Pixel · 16/04/2013 00:55

Yes, but she swept it up into an attractive bun and by the time it dried it was remarkably un-gungy, as you can see here.
Who knew whale sick made such a good conditioner? Grin

fancyanother · 16/04/2013 20:24

Waaaah! You just reminded me of the heady days of Series 5, with that tingle of The new Doctor and Amy Pond!

teejwood · 17/04/2013 13:19

Soup Ravenwood was a character in Indiana Jones - an Egyptologist. I think the Guardian blog commentators are burbling about an Egyptian link so that might fit as a hint?

fancyanother agree there is a real risk in pandering to fandom too much. Rusty always took that line when he was showrunner, didn't he?

Bad Wolf did flash across my mind when they mentioned "Hungry Like The Wolf" and I thought 'oh gawd, really?'

But on the plus side, it made DP and I search Youtube to show the kids the videos for Vienna and Hungry Like the Wolf - and during the search we came across this treasure Can't figure out how the hell I haven't seen it before but it's bloody brilliant Grin

Word of warning - don't show the children until you have viewed it first as it's a bit fruity in places!

Oodsigma · 17/04/2013 13:31

I love that, we have it in our YouTube favourites. That and DT doing the proclaimers.

Saw a pic on FB of young Clara wearing a t-shirt with two hearts on. Significant?

teejwood · 17/04/2013 14:08

Ood YY - love DT doing the proclaimers. Re Clara - that would be tremendous if a clue!

KayHarker · 17/04/2013 14:20

I'm not loving it. I want to be, I really do. But I'm just not.

SESthebrave · 18/04/2013 09:36

Kay - I agree :(
I've not really posted on here as I don't know what to say. I love Dr Who, I love MS and I love JC & Clara. I think it's the storylines that just aren't good enough. If there is an overall arc then great but don't sacrifice the individual episodes for the sake of it.

2rebecca · 19/04/2013 09:44

I don't understand why they don't do more 2 or 3 parters. The suspense between episodes used to be a major part of Dr Who. The endings are stupidly rushed, I like a build down after an ending too, not just "fine I've saved the world byee".

Oodsigma · 19/04/2013 15:39

Everyone seen this?

teejwood · 19/04/2013 17:17

Ohh fabby link Ood! DS has decided that means that Clara is actually River's daughter. Personally will be glad to see River back

The impossible thing - two tardii/doctors in the same space? Maybe DT isn't just filming for the 50th Wink
