Well that was cheery.

Flippin' good though. The two female leads were brilliant.

Flossbert · 21/08/2012 22:08

Have just discovered my new mascara us not waterproof!

bronze · 21/08/2012 22:09

It was...

Gosh

The suspense at the beginning

ClaraDeLaNoche · 21/08/2012 22:11

Yes I love Anne Marie Duff and a good weep. I suppose we had the happy ending last week.

Sniff.

Compelling. Beautifully acted and a wonderful script. The kids circling on the bikes was so threatening.

I am though thoroughly depressed now.

mercibucket · 21/08/2012 22:31

Hmm I didn't think much of it tbh. So she's ballsy and strong enough to stand up to the gangs but not enough to dob her son in? Don't think so
Also, and this is a common complaint of mine on the bbc these days (see 'silent witness' last night), why can't they get the kids to look/speak/act a bit more like council estate kids and less like kids straight out of eton.

Her son had a scouse accent I noticed.
He was the kid out of love actually wasn't he?

mumofthemonsters808 · 21/08/2012 23:11

I enjoyed it, but god it made me feel depressed, I could not help but wonder what I would do in that situation, even though my boy is only 2!!!. I thought the female leads were fabulous , especially the one who had lost her son.Great point from mercibucket re tough kids being underperformed by posh kids.

bronze · 21/08/2012 23:16

Yes that's him
Saw him in a thing clef feathers? When he was younger. One of the most beautiful boys I've seen

Lottapianos · 22/08/2012 14:36

Not a Jimmy McGovern fan at all - I think his scripts are ghastly, everything laid on with a trowel and points rammed home repeatedly, he puts the 'b' in 'subtle' Smile I always end up watching this series though because he gets such great actors to play his shoddily written roles.

I don't have much time for Sean Bean but thought he was fantastic last week. Anne Marie Duff was just great last night. Olivia Colman was so totally heart breaking - the scene where she was on the phone to her brother was so well-acted. And the final scene last night was just devastating. Two lives completely destroyed Sad Was speechless at the end. Her role could have just been a bog-standard cry-fest but she made it briliant.

Anyone who enjoyed her in 'Accused' last night - have a look for a film called 'Tyrannosaur' where she plays a similarly tragic character although be warned, there are some really triggering themes (rape and DV).

cornybootseeker · 22/08/2012 14:39

I missed the start. I thought the scene at the end was very harrowing.i like both of the female leads in everything I've seen them in.
The part where the son gets 'sent down' was also very well acted I thought.

lovelychops · 22/08/2012 14:41

Lottapianos I saw Tyrannosaur at the weekend - oh my word. It was so harsh but the performances were excellent, especially Oliva Coleman.

LeslieKnope · 22/08/2012 14:43

Agree with you Lotta I went to the premier (oop north) for Tyrannosaur which had a Q&A with my future husband Paddy Considine. That film is incredible. And Olivia Colman completely turned my 'Sophie from Peep Show' perception on it's head. She is astounding in that film.

I wanted to love Accused last night but I found myself fastforwarding through some really boring bits. There were holes in the story that made me Hmm and was all in all quite lacklustre.

The accents were dodgy. The kid from Love Actually looks too posh to be on a rough Manchester estate. It was just a bit 'off'.

Last week's with Sean Bean was so so SO good. I've watched it twice.

Raahh · 22/08/2012 15:28

I enjoyed it, but agree there were holes, and Olivia Colman was brilliant. I've always loved Anne-marie Duff, the first seasons of 'Shameless' were great, mainly down to her. But the son (something Sangster?) was mis-cast. It was quite harrowing, and brought up the 'what would you do' question.

and LeslieKnope- I love you user name (parks and Rec is extremely funny).

Lottapianos · 22/08/2012 16:22

'Last week's with Sean Bean was so so SO good. I've watched it twice'

I'm dying to see it again LeslieKnope. It was one of those performances that just gets under your skin. I thought about it all the next day too. I thought the episode itself was way too melodramatic and just didn't ring true at all but he was totally fab.

Lottapianos · 22/08/2012 16:25

lovelychops, I'm jealous of your Q&A experience. I read an interview with Olivia Coleman where she said she absolutely loved working with your future husband PC and hopes to again. She told a story about waiting outside a screening of the film with PC and Eddie Marsan, who plays her husband in the film. They were all going in to do the Q&A afterwards. Near the end of the film, three women came out together in tears, obviously very shaken up by the film. When they saw Eddie Marsan, they all screamed and ran off! Funny but understandable after watching that film! Smile

theoriginalandbestrookie · 22/08/2012 16:25

I loved last weeks episodes - completely revised my opinion of Sean Bean as an actor.

Last nights I was a bit "meh" about, her son was definitely too posh and whilst it was well acted the story was very contrived.

So far the adults aren't coming out great in this.........I just can't work out which one he is going to kill.............

BerthaKitt · 28/08/2012 21:32

His dad appears in the flash forward sequences so it's not him! I think he must kill the stepmother.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 28/08/2012 21:33

Hopefully it will be Sheridan the nurse. Bossy boots.

OP posts:
chosenone · 28/08/2012 21:35

stephen is a brilliant actor, I think its very compelling!! and to see sheridan smith in this manipulative role is good.

Clawdy · 28/08/2012 21:35

Yes,the two adults are not sympathetic characters...the Sheridan Smith one is obnoxious. Very unlikely she would move in so soon, though. Not sure about John Whatsisname's acting. The young lad is very good.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 28/08/2012 21:40

Is it just me or has John Bishop gone all handsome Blush
