Anyone watching? Jessica Sawyer is a lovely girl. Very sweet, and hilarious!

Yes, me too. In fact I could recognise most people from a distance from behind iyswim?

FrillyMilly · 07/08/2012 22:36

I don't think that Jess is the sharpest person though and at 15/16 you are still only a child really. If you've never had a sexual experience before how do you know what it's like? Gemma admitted guilt, if the others knew all along why wouldn't she say so?

noddyholder · 07/08/2012 22:41

I think it was a game. She relished her role dp said she needed her own show!

BeaWheesht · 07/08/2012 22:44

HATE The crappy CGI.

noelstudios · 07/08/2012 22:46

I believe them. She has admitted her guilt. They are victims of sexual assault. Jessica is brave, and a lot like a lot of teenage girls.

Didn't we all think all kinds of things were 'normal' when we were 15 and just wanted to be pretty, popular and hav a nice boyfriend? I know I did...

Isn't everything a bit of a game when you're 15?

I can understand "going out" with someone you don't speak to - I was an extremely shy naive 15 year old when I went out with a boy at school. We used to talk on the internet every night and have really in depth "conversations" but we were too shy to speak much in real life, or to do anything more than holding hands.

Still finding this story one of the strangest things I've ever heard though.

Acepuppets · 07/08/2012 22:51

The hats were like Clarke Kent's glasses obviously. I mean Lois Lane was fooled too. (LOL)

BeaWheesht · 07/08/2012 22:52

Nothing was a game when I was 15, everything was life or death but yes I see what you mean. I think if itd have been a random girl Id believe it more than it being a friend iyswim. Court found her guilty though and theyll have more info than me...

BeaWheesht · 07/08/2012 22:54

Why does Jess have so many different hairstyles throughout this.

TheDreadedFoosa · 07/08/2012 23:10

Why are people questioning the custodial sentence?
She hasnt been imprisoned for pretending to be a boy, but for sexually assaulting Jess (and the bizarre fraudulent application for compensation against her own alter ego Hmm ).
She did sexually assault her, why shouldnt she be imprisoned? Sod whether it is 'helpful' to Gemma or not, there are enough victims of sexual assault who ge no sort of justice. My only negative though on it is that had the assalt really been carried out by a male, he'd no doubt have recieved a far more leniant sentence, if at all.

lisad123 · 07/08/2012 23:38

Those poor girls Sad

lisad123 · 07/08/2012 23:45

Jess clearly very confused, how could she believe that one lad dressed up as another to assault her Confused
Gemma clearly very sick and needs serious help.
I believe them, they were teens and they are willing to believe a lot at that age.

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 07/08/2012 23:45

I'm watching it now as I recorded it and it is mental!

The way they describe the "boys" shows how odd they were! You would recognise people you knew no matter how they dress up.

At a fancy dress party my cousin dressed up as a male and some people didn't recognise her but I did straight away.

out2lunch · 07/08/2012 23:46

i saw half the programme before reading this thread i was confused then and even more confused now

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 07/08/2012 23:50

"He's a boy he's got boy parts"

For some reason when she said that I giggled!

ZeroFucksGiven · 07/08/2012 23:51

Im just about to go to bed so havent seen this program though I think I remember the news story about it, could somebody please give me a brief run through of what happened?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/08/2012 23:57

Exactly SPsF how can you meet someone, in the flesh as three different personae (sp) and not have bells ringing?

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 07/08/2012 23:58

zero a girl dressed up as lads and became her mates boyfriends. Mates apparently had no idea. Though it looked pretty obvious.

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 07/08/2012 23:59

Even at 15 you wouldn't be stupid enough to not realise it was a mate. Even if you didnt a lad that doesn't talk to you just shows you a phone screen is weird. Weird enough to tell him to fuck off any way.

MsFanackerPants · 08/08/2012 00:07

What a terribly made documentary. I'm very confused by it all, Jessica seemed naive beyond belief. I'm assuming she'd been given questions beforehand and had prepared answers as it all seemed very acted. The Sims style enactments didn't help.

Is there anything more on what Gemma Barker's diagnosis is? I realise she pled guilty to sexual assault, but if she does have some sort of learning disability/ASD then is prison the best place for her?

akaemmafrost · 08/08/2012 00:16

She has ASD! Wtf is she doing in prison?!

lisad123 · 08/08/2012 00:32

Because clearly she committed a crime. She was high enough functioning to get to 18 without too many flags going. Children with Asd may struggle to know right and wrong but doesn't mean they can't learn it.

lisad123 · 08/08/2012 00:35

The thing is Asd and learning disability doesn't mean you can't commit and crime or that you shouldn't be punished. They would have gone though all the frazer competence tests ect, to gather if she understand her actions and it's consequences, clearly she passed otherwise it would have been a different outcome.

NadiaWadia · 08/08/2012 02:39

It was all most bizarre, and I just kept thinking 'How could they not know?'
Although Jess was obviously not the sharpest tool in the box. Still they were very young and naive and I felt sorry for them.

Was a bit surprised that Gemma was diagnosed as having mild learning difficulties. To keep up such a complicated pretence and keep track of her multiple identies etc. I'd have thought she have had to be very bright.
