I held off watching it as I wasnt sure it would be my cup of tea.

Im really enjoying it now though.

I think it's brilliant. Am a bit behind with it though, haven't yet watched the latest two so no spoilers please! I think Paul Abbot is a genius - he manages to deal with a controversial, gritty subject but makes it seem completely relevant and the characters deserve our sympathy. Chloe Sevigny is really sexy in it too - the Irish accent, the hard as nails attitude with a material side, and the long legs in short skirts...

TheNightWatch · 17/06/2012 11:49

She's very quirky, I love her clothes in it. I can so see her and Jarvis Cocker together.

I meant to say maternal side of course...

PfftTheMagicDraco · 21/06/2012 19:51

I was just wondering if anyone had been watching this.

I'm quite hooked on it, though I have to say, when you think of all the elements together, it might be the oddest show I have ever watched. Including The League of Gentlemen Grin

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 21/06/2012 19:54

oo I love this show.

Jonas Armstrong - quite good in it isn't he? Always thought he was a bit of a 'fad' actor, but he is watchable (esp with shirt off)

I just typed out a paragraph about Vincent Regan's character (if that's his name) but realised it was a no-spoiler thread so I'll shut up!

ledkr · 21/06/2012 19:58

I thought I was the only one watxhing this, yes its great,i normally watch it about 5am when up with annoying baby,im not sure we need to keep seeing Mias willy as much though Hmm

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 21/06/2012 20:46

Yeah, but they obviously paid a lot for the prosthetic todger and it takes a lot to put in place, so they want to get their money's worth Wink

Rollergirl1 · 21/06/2012 21:02

I'm watching too but am also behind. I missed the first episode but think I've got to grips with it. Is Mia the (was) brother/sister of the dead Mum? And how did the Mum die, was it cancer?

Did anyone read the article Chloe Sevigny did in Sunday Times Style? Apparently she absolutely hated filming it and got quite depressed while doing it. She hated wearing the prosthetic and apparently it made her feel quite ugly about herself. There are a lot of shots of the cock aren't there? At least a few an episode. They made her accent irish as she couldn't pull of a convincing manc accent.

I really really like it. Although I do find it a bit implausible that no-one has particularly delved in to what she does for a living.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 21/06/2012 21:03

She was the boyfriend of the dead cancer mum - back when she was trying to convince herself that she could be "normal"
They had a relationship and a child.

Rollergirl1 · 21/06/2012 21:12

Pfft: Oh blimey, i clearly haven't got to grips with it then! Who is their child then, Ryan?

Thegoddessblossom · 21/06/2012 21:15

I am really enjoying this series.no one else I know seems to have. A clue what I am on about!!!

Also watching Awake with Jason issacs, anyone else?

TheNightWatch · 21/06/2012 21:34

If you try and explain the plot to anyone they look at you like you are mad!! I was slightly put off her in that interview but that's because I love Manchester and can't understand why it would be so hard to live there for Afew weeks, it's not like she would've been slumming it.

Also, does anyone think it will be signed up for a second season? It finishes next week.

OP posts:
CelticRepublican · 21/06/2012 21:39

Yes it's Ryan.

I am with ledkr on the cock shots, I haven't forgotten she's a transsexual since last week's episode ffs. I'm not sure that the fact of being a contract killer wouldn't have been difficulty/ interest enough.

I do really like it though and i have a massive girl crush on Chloe Sevigny.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 21/06/2012 22:03

Chloe is my number 1 girl crush

I have tried Awake, but I sadly find it to be absolute bollocks.

Yes, it's Ryan, the son :)

Rollergirl1 · 21/06/2012 22:04

Don't want to cause any spoilers but the hospital episode, surely something has to come back and bite Mia on the bum, that can't be the end of it?

The thing that I really like about it is that it's utterly unpredictable. I have no idea what's going to happen with Mia and Ben's relationship, and I think that's a breath of fresh air.

You can tell that Paul Abbot has moved on quite a bit since Shameless. It still has the same fucked-up air about it but it is definitely more "studio". I reckon Hollywood beckons.

Pagwatch · 21/06/2012 22:07

I was desperate to see this as it is a Paul Abbot creation.

It is brilliant. Loving it. And Chloe Sevigny is excellent.
The only downer is Riley who is bloody annoying.

CelticRepublican · 21/06/2012 22:14

Nooo I love Riley, she's a great character.

ledkr · 21/06/2012 22:16

celticrepublican I am not a transexual! How very dare you Grin

Rollergirl1 · 21/06/2012 22:17

I like Riley too. I especially loved her line "I was a virgin till I met you, you cunt."

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 21/06/2012 22:45

I missed an episode because of my stupid-unpredictable Sky+ box I think it must have been the 'hospital' episode mentioned upthread as i can't remember seeing that.

CelticRepublican · 21/06/2012 23:19

Oops sorry ledkr.

Didn't mean to out you. Wink

Pagwatch · 24/06/2012 11:26

I just irritated that teenagers are always presented as unfailingly hostile and determindly uncommunicative.

The scenes showing the mother portray her as gentle and emotionally in touch with her children so the monosyllabic hostility just seems over blown. It's just too convenient and cliche. I liked the scene when Mia explained about being raped. It was the first open, honest and not stereotyped moment Riley had.
The actress is bloody good though

TheNightWatch · 24/06/2012 11:37

Im enjoying it. The sex scene this week was abit full on.

I wonder how it will end this week. I wish they would move. I want them to live in Didsbury and do really well at school before that lovely boy gets in to deep with Mias boss.

Does anyone know if they will be a second season?

OP posts:
PfftTheMagicDraco · 27/06/2012 00:03

Don't know - read that Chloe hated being in Manchester for the filming. Might be one of those we never see again.

TheNightWatch · 27/06/2012 01:01

God, what's to hate? I bet it was only for Afew weeks and she got paid loads.
