I loved it - especially when the missing son walked right into the middle of the police investigation when the whole of the rest of the family had been taken into custody! Personally I think they get off quite lightly with their punishments but maybe thats just me!

I've seen the end a couple of times (before LOM) but I couldn't watch the whole thing, it would make me too angry

It is fantastic to see that they actually investigate and prosecute these scroungers. I am sick and tired of seeing so many people get IB, DLA, Income Support when there is nothing wrong but laziness that keeps them from working.

One of my neighbours gets IB, the whole deal including a car and told me that if I wanted to I should just go to the doctor and tell him I get depressed. For everything she wants, if she doesn't get it that is what she does. Strange thing is she has what that dvd-seller has osteo-arthritis yet it doesn't stop her lugging hulking great computers and other stuff around! She also bragged to me lately that because her ds is disabled she got some family fund which paid for a holiday for her and dh and new appliances.

We are going on holiday this year and need a new fridge freezer but we save for these things and pay for them ourselves.

It just kills me that these people get so much money, it seems an endless amount. And she sells dodgy dvds to her friends too (not me, she knows how I feel after I asked her why her dh didn't work, not when he gets over £100 carers allowance a week for her and her ds!)

Oooh, that was a rant. Sorry it is just living here gets me down sometimes, I've always believed you should earn what you get. I also worked with both a blind man and a man in a wheelchair neither of whom would have appreciated being called disabled and neither of whom would have thought of sponging off the system!

TwoIfBySea · 21/02/2006 21:53

Sorry Cod, totally hijacked your thread there!

mumfor1standfinaltime · 21/02/2006 21:55

Couldnt believe all the prescription drugs given to these scroungers, and they dont need them...sitting in a draw. Very sad and makes me

doormat · 21/02/2006 22:01

Twoifbythesea any chance you can leave the "some family fund" out of the dealings with scroungers

there are some mn's on here that use the family fund
for one
before you even get the family fund to help, you have to be assessed and your child has to be seriously disabled.
It is not a willy nilly charity that doles money out to people
and maybe some people on here may find your post offensive.

doormat · 21/02/2006 22:03

ps if the family fund can just give one ounce of happiness to a disabled child
good as they deserve it

onlyjoking9329 · 21/02/2006 22:15

but if only it were so simple, you see we have three kids with autism, now to look at them, they are not visibly disabled and i am sure this leads people to think that we are scroungers and defrauding the system, we use the family fund and i get incapacity benefit cos i have had many back ops probably all down to having to carry three kids who can walk but won't walk, i am sure there are people who are defrauding the system but not everyone who gets DLA IB is.

TwoIfBySea · 21/02/2006 22:18

And if the parents use the family fund money the get to go on holiday leaving the little lad and his sister with neighbours?

They got the money because of him, they should have spent it on him or to make his life a bit easier for him at least take him on holiday too! Not use it for their own wish list.

Yes, I am aware there are people who use the system properly, who need the money which is what makes me spitting mad about people who scrounge it. Don't jump to conclusions and assume I mean every recipient of the family fund. That is just silly. Hopefully before becoming offended people will read the post and realise what I am ranting about, the type of people on On The Fiddle.

The worse is that these are the people who seem to get the most money while people who could really do with that money go without. There was a woman on the tv, I don't think it was this show though as she was geniune, I think it was on Real Story? Her ds had severe disabilities but because her husband had left her a widows pension she got damn all, not even carers allowance and she was looking after her son all alone and finding it difficult without extra money that she desperately needed. It was ridiculous.

doormat · 21/02/2006 22:25

report them then
plenty of family fund information in the special needs threads
as they have seriously taken the piss

TwoIfBySea · 21/02/2006 22:44

But doormat if I did that then her ds would suffer even more! I have been seriously tempted but I just don't know if I could for his sake.

At the moment he is 2 years old and she keeps him in his highchair most of the time as he can't walk properly yet and as she has two computers and a playstation in the living room she worried he might break them. When I suggest she move them upstairs I got a "look." Without hijacking this thread even further she was telling neighbours he needed brain surgery for over a year and a half when he doesn't. Isn't his condition bad enough she has to lie?

Anyway, that is enough on that.

I would imagine as with most of the families "On The Fiddle" it is the kiddies who pay. And the thought that if you have cancer or something as serious as that you might not be entitled to any benefits, what an eyeopener!

doormat · 21/02/2006 22:53

but you need to keep receipts for things like holiday for at least a year for audit purposes if they request it.

r u sure this was from family fund and not another lie she has told

Tortington · 21/02/2006 23:07

i know someone who gets the family fund money for holidays and takes the risk of them asking for a reciept which she said they never have.

if she wants to send the money on spraying shit gold - i dont care she has a disabled daughter - so if she wants the money for something else then fine - am not bohered - just an illustration that this partic system can be misused

on the " the kids suffer" bit - well dont complain about then if your not goign to shop them.

the amount of times i hear " he always has new stuff cos they're claimin, when i have to make do and am entitled to fuck all" well stop blummin moaning about it - if oyu dont like it change it.

doormat · 22/02/2006 10:08

she's been around for a while

I've found it quite interesting - in my old life I helped out on a few major investigations. I must admit, the first few programs (when they were hassling those getting lone parent's benefit who had boyfriends) I did wonder how cost effective it was. It must cost a fortune to have that whole department + all the technology expense claims to chase after single mothers and their children. I can see the point to the big claims and I know they have to investigate those getting benefit when they shouldn't but I don't think they make very much from individuals - I bet most of them can't pay the benefit back anyway.
