My children started a dance class in September, Free Style and Street, just for fun and exercise. Six weeks in and they were already being pushed to do a medal test. I'm glad they aren't that interested!!

allnightlong · 23/02/2012 23:04

tigerbear they showed a couple of mums, the most OTT so the viewers can all go Shock Angry and hoik up their judgy pants.
Most of the mothers and daughters in these comps wont be like that at all.

allnightlong · 23/02/2012 23:06

Nigellas there is equally as bad a presures in ballet too and awful behaviours from the mums. I suppose they are more likely to be middle class so thats ok...

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:08

watching on plus one. what a bitch of a teacher. well seeing she isn't up dancing showing them moves but sitting on her arse shouting

DioneTheDiabolist · 23/02/2012 23:10

Ballet mums can be just as bad!

CaveMum · 23/02/2012 23:11

The dance world is surprisingly cut-throat!

At least in Ballroom/Latin competitions they have regulation dress codes for the under 15s.

SherlockKnomes · 23/02/2012 23:17

Just finished watching it on sky+ - horrendous. They're obviously very flexible dedicated kids why the hell aren't they doing acrobatics/gymnastics rather than that vile mahogany lolita competition?!

UmmOfUmbridge · 23/02/2012 23:22

nana my dd did freestyle from the age of 6, she's been to disco kid and we've been all over the country. Sadly there are pushy parents in every sport. She's 13 now and does classes and the odd competition but isn't as bothered about it now. She started by going to a 'dance class' with a friend. I had no clue what it was all about but she was quickly hooked and I found myself thrown into this crazy world of Swarovski stoned costumes and fake tan!! I was horrified at first but I have to say, I have met so so many lovely and happy children (and parents) and the confidence and enjoyment she has had from it is amazing.

Most children are NOT pushed like shown on the programme. We were shown the best of the best. Probably because their parents are so pushy! We did it for fun as do most of the families I know.

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:29

the mums have ishoos

allnightlong · 23/02/2012 23:30

Umm I would second everything you have said.
I know the area Kara comes from and where Billie moved too it does have a good rep for this style of dancing so I could understand why Billies mum moved up.

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:36

"she twisted a bit funny quite quick" - isn't that the whole dance?!

seat belts???

Not only do they risk their dd health by making dance when ill/injured but also by not wearing seatbelts

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:39

"its just a bend and a push" says you sitting on your fat arse you cheeky cow. Angry

Clary · 23/02/2012 23:40

I agree the saving grace was that the kids seemed really sweet and not bratty, so friendly with each other bless them.

Felt really sorry for them tho - poor Orlaigh, asthmatic and with a kidney infection!? And the costumes and spray tan were quite shocking, no?

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:43

"she is 9 how can she possiobly be stressed?"

err cos of you, you silly cow.

tethersend · 23/02/2012 23:46

Even if the girls really wanted to do it, it would still be utterly wrong.

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:49

least backstage at dk dont have the parents screaming

NettoSuperstar · 23/02/2012 23:54

The mothers are all bonkers and unattractive

UmmOfUmbridge · 23/02/2012 23:55

allnight yes, the Q's have a reputation for being pretty much the best dance school in the country. I am in the North East and I know a Mum who travels up to Scotland every weekend just so her daughter can dance there!

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 23/02/2012 23:59

Karah is really very very good in that her moves are more defined and sharp.

UmmOfUmbridge · 24/02/2012 00:00

I've seen her at comps. She's outstanding.

BendyBob · 24/02/2012 00:01

How very strange. 'Dancing' with the aim of attempting to kick yourself in the faceConfused They looked as though they'd been plugged into the mains

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 24/02/2012 00:02

She does dance in a different way to the rest.

Can you please remove me from this thread? I am getting a bit irate!

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 24/02/2012 00:03

What was that website called? Orlaigh said the name of it - dance, net or something?

allnightlong · 24/02/2012 00:06

Giraffes on re watch that was pretty obvious to me too she is a far superior dancer. If she wanted she could move into other geners of dance.
