Leo McGarry

TWW is very good obviously and I'm on about ep 6 of season 3. I have developed quite a serious crush on Sam Seaborn, but I'm getting really quite bored of Leo McGarry's smell the fart acting.

Is it just me?

OP posts:
MardyBra · 10/01/2012 14:47

Angry Angry Angry at spoilers

MmeLindor. · 10/01/2012 15:31

No, I must admit Sam is the one for me.

The way he uses words, his humour, his accent, his glasses (especially when he takes them off).

Must remember to take the box set with me to Scotland.

stabiliser15 · 10/01/2012 15:38

Massive Josh fan here. I have a proper crush on him, re-ignited every time I start re-watching. Especially the bit when he's a bit shy and hesitant when he's with Amy, contrasts so much with his normal style. And so clever and tactical, and more practical than idealistic Sam.

I was gutted when Sorkin left though. Changed the series a bit. Still one of the best things ever on TV though. Wish Sorkin would hurry up and do something else.

QueenKong · 10/01/2012 16:56

Ooh I heard him interviewed on Kermode's podcast just before Christmas and he said he was working on a film and tv series for this year. No further details, but was excited anyway!

QueenKong · 10/01/2012 18:51

Jimmy Smit-aholics - turn your attention to Series 3 of Dexter. Hubba hubba.

OP - I think we'll have to agree to disagree on the Leo issue. As the great man himself said sort of, "It's time to let mumsnet be mumsnet."

alarkaspree · 10/01/2012 18:56

Josh sounds like Marty McFly in Hassled's link.

Not that that is any reason not to love him, of course.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 11/01/2012 20:20

Someone doesn't like Leo???? Grin

I am so jealous of anyone who is working the way through the series for the first time. We're currently re-watching which we do on an annual basis and are about half way through series 6. It's soooooo good.

MMMarmite · 11/01/2012 20:30

Neither of them beats CJ - wow. She's funny, brave enough to face the pack of journalists day after day, very skilled at her job, holds her own against the men without being arrogant, and to top it off tall and beautiful.

MmeLindor. · 11/01/2012 22:41

Oh, I have just discovered a way of transferring DVDs onto my iPad so I can watch WW again.

TheFallenMadonna · 11/01/2012 22:48

CJ is clearly a goddess, but as Chief of Staff, she was sadly no Leo McGarry (WWLD notwithstanding).

MmeLindor. · 11/01/2012 22:49

Agree, FJ.

CJ was brilliant as Press Secretary, but no Leo.

MogTheForgetfulCat · 11/01/2012 23:23

Leo is amazing, but I have a bit of a crush on all of them as TWW is so darn good Grin

Fiderer · 12/01/2012 07:26

Leo is brilliant as a character and I think John Spencer was a wonderful actor.

Love the long scene in the pilot where he interacts with everyone. The crossword bit was a good touch though I can't quite see him owning, or rather using, a $4000 touring bike! I've started S1 again and rewound that scene to enjoy it all over again. Great writing.

Almost enough to hold me off wanting to run Mandy over with my ca. $40 old bone-shaker of a bike.

gettingalifenow · 12/01/2012 07:38

Just watched the heart attack episode last night, by coincidence. Leo for president, I say.
Although am I allowed a bit of a girl crush on CJ? And the full blown swoon over Sam, obviously.

MardyBra · 12/01/2012 08:10

More spoilers. Sigh. There is a spoilers thread in Telly addicts you know.

< hides thread >

Fiderer · 12/01/2012 08:13

Sorry Mardy - I had typed something from a later season and deleted it as it was a spoiler so stuck resolutely to the pilot episode.

gettingalifenow · 12/01/2012 09:26

How can there not be spoilers for a show which finished years ago? How can we not discuss Leo without reference to his whole career? The threR is just entitled 'Leo McGarry'. And how are we supposed to know how far anyone else has got with the show?
And if there were a pride and prejudice thread, should we not mention that Elizabeth marries Darcy?

Fiderer · 12/01/2012 09:47

In the first sentence the OP says she's on ep6 of S3 so it's basic netiquette not to reveal spoilers on the thread.
She googled Matt Santos and found some spoilers but as we don't know all of them, so it's probably a case at least warning what you will reveal.

It's difficult with DVD boxsets, I agree. Then again, who, having watched even only the pilot episode, could resist a thread about Leo McGarry? Grin

Becaroooo · 12/01/2012 09:51

Leo is ace!

As is Sam

And Toby (who ds2 is named after!)

And Josh

And Charlie..........sigh..........

EnjoyResponsibly · 12/01/2012 09:57

I'm back and cannot believe I wrote SANCHEZ, instead of SANTOS.

I have watched TWW at least 20 times right through!!!!!!! I was watching it the night before I posted!!!!!!

Treasure you must face facts, you are a WW novice.

I also have a little soft spot for Greg Brock.

Favourite episode ever: The Supremes

gettingalifenow · 12/01/2012 10:01

Fiderer - Mardy's not the OP! The OP is half way thru season 3 and Mardy is only half way thru season 2! So if someone comes on and says they're only on the pilot episode, after that point we can only discuss that episode!

I admit I may have given away too much for the OP (sorry) but you can't expect everyone to go thru every post to see if anyone has requested an early stop date on the discussion!

I suggest putting 'no spoliers after season 3 please' in the title would help. Then those who fancy chatting about the WHOLE series could go to another thread, as we've done previously.

BTW - why do you think Lily Tomlin took on that role? Was she just a huge WW fan as it seems quite a small part for her skills?

EnjoyResponsibly · 12/01/2012 10:09

Getting maybe she fancied Josh, Leo, Sam et al too!

The episode where she gets hired is fantastic, and I love that she's a card sharp.

Fiderer · 12/01/2012 10:20

I know Mardy isn't the OP. I just meant, we/I don't always read or remember every post so some posters may have missed that she'd googled and found out there's a death.
It's a bloody spoiler minefield!

Agree a "spoilers" or "none please" in thread titles for such series would be good.

Have just deleted a paragraph about Lily T, as it contains spoilers.

Will write it later on the other thread.
Grin

Bumperlicious · 12/01/2012 10:25

I love a West Wing thread!
