TV box sets - are there any I have missed?

TV is crap. Currently existing on box sets of Dexter and the L word (an interesting combination Hmm )

Are there any new series that I should be watching, any that I have missed? I can't have worked my way through all of the decent box sets, can I?

I have seen all of these:
ER
West Wing
The Good Wife
Six Feet Under
Dexter
L Word
House
Battlestar Gallactica
Stargate (SG-1, Atlantis and Universe)
Buffy
Angel

I have The Wire waiting for me on my Love Film list.. seems to be the last of the big series.

(I clearly have far too much time on my hands... there are others but can't recall them at the moment)

MonaMcKenzie · 10/11/2011 10:04

Mentalist
Monk
Supernatural
The Big Bang Theory
Modern Family

notyummy · 10/11/2011 10:05

God, I hope so....

Bellatrix99 · 10/11/2011 10:05

Sex and the city :) Always a favourite
Peep Show
The IT Crowd
Father Ted
Brothers and Sisters ( I don't know anyone in RL who watched this but I loved it)

TeaCider · 10/11/2011 10:10

Smallville
Torchwood
Being Human
Medium (Loved this).

Another for The Soprano's I didn't think I'd like it but was hooked.

TotemPole · 10/11/2011 10:11

notyummy, I take it you didn't enjoy it.Grin

I've only seen the first series.

TotemPole · 10/11/2011 10:13

Red Dwarf for some comedy.

AvadaKedavra · 10/11/2011 10:16

yy to Big Love - it's underrated and excellent :)

Underbelly

notyummy · 10/11/2011 10:23

Totem - actually I really enjoyed the first series, and to some extent the second. However it became completely ludicrous - the format (the whole 24 hours thing) and using the leads meant that any credibility was lost. The format also meant that what was exciting the first time round, quickly became formulaic. I have the same problem with things like House and Bones - enjoyed it to begin with, but quickly got bored with the routine ('serious' forensic scientist ....who is evidently attractive but unskilled with people....solves mystery using loyal team and whizzy graphics and is exposed to some sort of danger every time...which she is saved from by hunky police officer with whom she exchanges terse banter. )

TapselteerieO · 10/11/2011 10:24

The Wire is my favourite t.v series.
I second Deadwood, I really enjoyed it.

House
Grey's Anatomy and if you like it you might want to give Private Practice a try.
I also liked Ugly Betty

Raeray · 10/11/2011 10:25

The middle
Criminal minds
Another recommendation for modern family
Medium
Blue bloods
I haven't watched prison break myself but lots of friends have said I should!
House
Gray's anatomy

Sure I'll think of more I'll pop back!

thesurgeonsmate · 10/11/2011 10:38

Alias.

Nonsense spy thingy with Jennifer Garner. So compulsive some friends of mine who were in the states stayed up all night watching an Alias marathon.

wigglesrock · 10/11/2011 10:41

Oh I loved Alias - forgot about that one.

RunnerHasbeen · 10/11/2011 10:42

Dollhouse
Lip Service
and a bit old school... Cracker?

IsSamNormansDad · 10/11/2011 10:46

chuck is def worth it! iirc, it takes a few episodes to kick off, but gets there. Diagnosis Murder (or is that just me?)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 10/11/2011 11:07

Right.

The Fades, Being Human, Dollhouse, Castle, Sopranos, Nip/Tuck and Chuck added to Love Film.

I can't get on with the BBC dramas like Spooks for some reason, not sure why. Guess I just prefer the American ones Blush

Ah yes.. Red Dwarf. We have the entire box set (though I don't need to watch it as I can probably quote it backwards anyway Grin )

We don't really do tv so always have a few series on the go, mostly American because the UK stuff just seems a bit thin these days.

Same people who did The Wire, look out for Treme - New Orleans 2/3 short series and Generation Kill - Iraq war, HBO mini series.
Deadwood - seriously good HBO series
Arrested Development, modern Family and 30 Rock for when you just need a half hour laugh
True Blood and Walking Dead for vampire/Zombie moments.
I've also liked Big Love, The Big C and Weeds. Strong female leads
Big shout for The Riches - good drama/slight comedy with Ediie Izzard and Minnie Driver as grifters in modern America
Mad Men, Mildred Peirce and Pan Am. 1950/60s drama
Carnivale - weird 1930s depression circus stuff - interesting
Game of Thrones - Kings, dwarves & something nasty in the wood shed

I did n't get hooked on Oz and lost interest in Heroes and Lost.
I'm not keen on detective/murder stuff but would like a recommendation for a Sci-Fi Battlestar recommendation please

LaPruneDeMaTante · 10/11/2011 11:10

I keep getting recommended Parks and Recreation (I think that's what it's called) - american comedy

thesurgeonsmate · 10/11/2011 11:16

FaithfullBBL do you mean sci-fi other than Battlestar Galactica? 'Cos I don't really have one of those. But Battelstar Galactica is a really good pick.

notyummy · 10/11/2011 11:17

Ah yes, BSG. Awesome.

dinkystinky · 10/11/2011 11:21

We're currently watching Studio 60 on the sunset strip - really enjoying it.

rubygems84 · 10/11/2011 11:27

Spartacus Blood and Sand - gladiators, over the top gore and lots of semi-naked people.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 10/11/2011 11:30

My friends are amazed that I haven't heard of Parks and Recreation yet.. (yes, if that's what it's called) Grin

I don't think it's really made it over here in DVD format yet, and I'm not paying for Sky, so I'll have to wait for that one.

dinky Studio 60 is brilliant isn't it, shame it got cancelled.. I think we got through it in less than a week!

BSG? Yes yes yes. Definitely watch it. I need to re-watch, it's very good.

Don't bother with SG Atlantis though. BSG rip off and very dull.
