I don't know about this program, but other of this type have people who don't seem to have deep seated problems, who are in seemingly stable relationships with sufficient material provision, and still they seem unable to step in when there are problems.

I see quite a few parents like this. They are really nice people, who don't want to fuck their kids heads up. In fact, in some ways they are too nice. They want to be thier kids friend, not the parent who says the 'No' word.

If your kids is making your life a misery most people will have a stab at sorting it out. But these parents seem to lack the confidence to say , 'Hang on, I'm the adult, I make the decisions'

so when tanya says to them "whats the worst that will happen if u say no, dont sleep with them, take away their dummy or whatever?" they all say
"he/she wont love me anymore" in a really needy way.

Blandmum · 07/12/2005 17:18

and what they don't seem to understand is that you don't make children happy and confident by leaving them in charge. Kids want the parents to step in and set the boundaries, it makes kids feel comfortable and secure. They know that they can push at the boundaries (and should do so) but that mum and dad will make sure that they don't come to real harm.

wessexgirl · 08/12/2005 14:54

The frightening thing about this programme is that the parents on it are the ones who realise they have a problem and are prepared to do anything to sort it out. How many similar cases are there that will never sort itself out until the kids' teeth drop out/they are in juvenile detention etc.? Loads, I bet.

wessexgirl · 08/12/2005 14:54

Sort 'themselves' out, I mean...

I'm horrified to see how lazy most of these parents are! They have no idea what they're setting their kids up for! A life of failures no friends being bullied just a bunch of zero adults poor max call me crazy but I really see the feminine side of him so that makes me wonder and don't jump all over me some of you can see it too when my nephew was 2 we saw it in him and now at 27 he's a very successful nursing professor a gay activist and a proud gay man married just over 7 years to an amazing guy but as we were watching this program he felt as I do this max could be facing alot were not saying he's gay but we wouldn't be abit surprised
