I think there is a thread about this, but I couldn't find it.

I nearly gave up on this after finding the first two episodes a bit hard to follow, but I thought it really got going last week - its getting exciting now.

Anyone else watching?

OP posts:

I'm loving it, but the voice Rafe Spall uses for Jay makes me think of Lou from Little Britain.

Bearskinwoolies · 07/06/2011 02:37

I ended up watching it twice, just to make sure I hadn't missed anything. My dh is convinced the flower delivery line is counterpoint, but I'm not so sure. Definitely not enough Jay, but the confrontation between Glickman and Gatehouse almost made up for it.

I wonder if Gabriel really is a bent copper, or are they taking advantage of his amnesia?

MissHonkover · 07/06/2011 09:00

Ooer, hadn't even thought of that the florist operation could be Counterpoint. More Glickman please, Antony Sher is fab fab fab.

Stokey38 · 07/06/2011 09:05

I love it but I have to say a lot of it really confuses me but I think maybe that is the point. Have I missed something about the rent boy (I can't remember his name) has he just appeared or was he refered to somewhere and I can't remember. I think Gabriel is bent and I don't think there is much of a future for his second family, am sure they are next on the hit list. It's brilliant though - am gripped. Agree with the voice for Jay - it makes me think of David Walliam everytime I hear it now.

limitedperiodonly · 07/06/2011 12:57

The rent boy reminds me of the way that Ronan Parke has been made over.

It's a creepy older man's dream of a prepubescent boy. Really grim.

I don't understand why the sexualisation of children debate centres on girls yet Ronan's makeover provokes little comment other than a debate on whether Syco can cash in on the Justin Bieber market.

I too dropped this part way through episode 2 as I really couldn't care less about any of the characters and I was irritated that every home set was identical - expensive modern minimalist. But most of all the painfully slow dialogue as though the script instructed 'meaningful pause' after every line really irritated. Finally the emphasis on smoking and details such as the stubbing out of a cigarette switched me off - sorry Alison Graham but I prefer Luther (well as a Wire fan I would wouldn't I?)

knottyhair · 09/06/2011 18:29

I love this, and Luther, and The Wire Smile!

Stokey38 · 10/06/2011 09:18

Did anyone watch last night? I don't want to give anything away but it was tough viewing and even more questions to be answered now. Who exactly is the woman? (Glickmans mistress, forget her name) Do like it though but not much light relief is there?

RubyLovesMayMay · 10/06/2011 09:54

Stokey38 I actually screamed out "NOOOOOOO!" at that point in the episode (I'm sure you know where I mean) But I'm still loving the Series as a whole.

Thought it was a brilliant episode last night though, Glickman's mistress surprised me as well, though clearly she's not as slick as Gatehouse.

Just when I thought I understood it all, it confused the hell out of me again, but I figure I'll get it in the end

I must say its much better than Injustice on ITV, (where I've notice they seem to be sharing the actors Confused) which in all honesty is a bag of shite

BeattieBow · 10/06/2011 12:07

it was awful. I was in floods of tears. Actually wondered whether it was gratuitous and wondering whether to write to BBC! (was v shocked by the whole thing)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 12:12

I'm being thick here, but I'm not watching it live ? recording it and catching it when I can ? and am not sure where I am in the series as compared to you all on this discussion. Am I one behind, or have I watched and completely forgotten/blanked the 'gratuitous' bit that made people cry?

I've watched up to and including the one where the American bloke finds Glickman in Ireland and he blows up the clock shop.

Stokey, do you mean who is Glickman's mistress in RL? It's Eve Best, who's been playing Dr O'Hara in Nurse Jackie and is currently in Much Ado at the Globe. She is fabulous. I adore her and want her shoe wardrobe from Nurse Jackie to be her when I grow up.

BeattieBow · 10/06/2011 12:29

you haven't seen the episode we are talking about LadyC. It was on last night. I fully accept I may be over-reacting btw.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 12:52

Ah, I won't come back to this thread until I've watched it in case of spoilers then. I wasn't insinuating that you were over-reacting! Am intrigued and can't wait to watch it now and considering faking illness to get out of social commitments and stay home and watch it tonight

BeattieBow · 10/06/2011 13:06

I probably am - i'm quite hormonal!

sparklyjewlz · 10/06/2011 17:04

What's the body count so far? There'll be no one left soon.
I think last night's was the best episode so far.

TigersChick · 10/06/2011 23:15

I think I am following it fairly well but was surprised by 2 things from last night's episode ... and anyone who has seen it can probably guess.
I can't help rooting for Bede a bit even tho I know he's importing shed loads of drugs, his heart seems to be in more or less the right place ... Grin
Don't like the rent boy.

TigersChick · 10/06/2011 23:17

Oh, body count ... erm ... is it about 8?
Don't want to list for fear of posting spoilers ... probably missed a couple off that number tho!

sparklyjewlz · 11/06/2011 09:09

I agree Tiger. Some of the baddies are more sympathetic than the "goodies". Interesting how moral lines get blurred.

Blackduck · 11/06/2011 16:09

I am just totally confused now....All the coppers seem bent, who is Glickman's mistress and Gatehouse - is he super bloody human, or what....

knottyhair · 11/06/2011 16:20

Yes! Much as I love this series, I was shouting at the telly when Gatehouse rose up and killed Glickman's mistress. He was on life support in IT for god's sake! Can't wait for this week though.

strandednomore · 11/06/2011 18:42

Oh I'm loving this, best thing that's been on tv for a while. The acting has been first rate - I love Christopher Ecclestone and Chiwetal Ejiofor, I honestly think they are the only "decent" people in it and everyone else is bent, one way or the other. I think the spooks are involved somewhere. In fact what am I talking about, I don't have a clue what's going on! Just hoping it's all clear by the end of next week's episode....

TigersChick · 11/06/2011 19:19

strandednomore - Oh God I hope it's all cleared up for us ... I don't think I could cope if they left anything ambiguous or open ended!!!! ShockGrin

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 11/06/2011 19:24

I have totally loved this, have had to watch it on Iplayer as it clashes with something DH loves but wow, I love the slow dark nature of it.

I have so many theories each week about stuff and then it all goes up the spout again the following week.

I was very very very pleaed that Gabriel is a straight copper after all.

MissHonkover · 11/06/2011 21:33

DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN EPISODE 6!

Is Glickman's girlfriend Counterpoint? Did Gabriel tell the police that Glickman shot the little boy and Gatehouse? If not, how do the police think they got shot?

Me and DP have to have a debrief after each episode, it's so complicated.

TigersChick · 12/06/2011 13:20

Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~Spoiler space ~~~~~

I don't know, MissHonkover, but surely the police are involved in the death/shootings in some way! The journalist's death wasn't mentioned the week after he was killed but I suppose that was just put down to a hit-and-run ... nothing sinister. You can't just assume that about a double shooting, now can you!! So they must have said something. The timescale is interesting, you don't tend to have a funeral within a day or even 2 of the death so what has happened in the meantime? Has Glickman even been discovered/identified?

What do we think about the Ice Queen at Customs? She's dodgy as well as a bitch IMHO! Tho I do like the bloke from HMR&C - he seems to be straight at least.

Also, who was the bloke at the memorial service, the one with the cigarette? The one who seems to be in charge of all the shady stuff? Was that his first appearance or have I just missed him up til then?
