I am a total fantasy geek and read the series (minus the last book which is finally out this summer) a few years back.
I was seriously impressed. It was well written, with interesting complex characters and a very realistic plot (as far as fantasy goes obviously).

The cast is looking really good and I can't wait to see the series! It's starting tonight on Sky Atlantic.

OOh, ooh, me too!

Just remembered that we have the preview on sky + from last night, yay!

ilythia · 18/04/2011 19:53

Very important though, will there be gratuitous nudity? It will help me to get DH to watch it too if there is

anonacfr · 18/04/2011 19:58

Apparently yes.

Actually the book has a lot of sex in it. All tied into the story but some parts are quite explicit.

If it sticks to the book there should be a fair bit of sex in it ilythia if that will help tempt your husband, disappointingly though I don't remember Sean Bean's character getting down and dirty.

From the snippets of this that I've seen on Youtube the casting seems to be spot on. I am very, very excited, am also a fantasy geek.

ilythia · 18/04/2011 20:12

no nudie sean bean? but we will persevereGrin

anonacfr · 18/04/2011 20:20

Sean Bean is all noble and happily married in the story. He might get it on with his wife then... :)

I was drooling when I saw who they picked for Jamie Lannister. I LOVE that actor!

Btw a fantasy geek called AliciaFlorrick. We must be soulmates... :)

I cannot wait to see this, although I don't have Sky Atlantic so will need to rely on iTunes or AuntyTorrent... ahem.

I'm reading A Clash Of Kings just now and loving it, although I'll never get over the end of Game of Thrones...

KaraStarbuckThrace · 18/04/2011 20:49

Yey I shall be watching it very soon, I can't wait!!

anonacfr · 18/04/2011 21:53

Damn was going to watch it tonight but ended on the phone to my mother for over an hour.... I'll have to wait till tomorrow night now.

I thought it was great, a really true adaptation - seemed to be over really quickly. I'll be very happy if they keep it to just the one advert break in the future.

maighdlin · 18/04/2011 22:10

Just watched the first episode. Most of the time me and DH were trying to figure out what part of norn iron it was filmed in. They filmed a good bit in the area DH lived in, and he was an extra in it Grin

the amount of sex in it was not what i expected. Its blood guts fighting sex women in floaty dresses, everything you'd expect in a good fantasy. Can't wait for next episode.

sci-fi and fantasy geek here too!! Liked the first episode and will be definately tuning in next week; about time we had some good fantasy series adapted for the tv.

pawsnclaws · 19/04/2011 15:00

I thought it was good - poor little boy at the end of the first episode though Sad.

moragbellingham · 19/04/2011 18:04

Brilliant! I loved it.

Meow75 · 19/04/2011 18:12

Don't tend to read sci-Fi or fantasy but did enjoy last night's first episode. Gasped when the boy did actually get pushed off the ledge.

Thought the dog/wolf pup and "teen" dog were utterly GORGEOUS and I want one NOW!!!!

I enjoyed it well. They got all the key events from the book in it.
I do seem to remember that there was a lot of sex and violence in the book, and that Tyrion Lannister was definitely a horny bastard Grin

The guy playing Jaime Lannister is luuurrrrvely even if it he is totally evil! Poor little Bran :(

Did anyone think though that Sansa looked to old? I am sure there is only supposed to be a year between her and Arya.

kittya · 20/04/2011 21:27

I only watched it because of Sean Bean, I have to come clean. Having said that, I thought it was superb!! If you could just help me. The Queen is having it away with her brother is she? and is the imp their brother too? thanks.

Ps. what has that queen been in before?

Tyrion, Jaime and Cercei are siblings.

Jaime and Cercei are having it away.

Waiting for this to come out on iTunes/dvd as I don't have Sky - will settle with book two for now!

For those new to Game of Thrones/A Song Of Ice and Fire, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

pawsnclaws · 20/04/2011 21:47

LH was also in 300 (the film about the Spartans).
