It was shite.

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:16

I'm sorry but the 'fight and fcuk in the first five minutes' maxim was not meant for supposed 'quality' television. And for all the defense of 'realism' how could anyone not laugh when every muff on show had a very 21st century 'brazillian'. FFS!

..The BBC should hang their heads in shame..

Like opening The Guardian and seeing a page 3 fuck puppet.

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:19

And yes Cod, it was cutting too fast and was indecipherable. I want to go watch I Claudius now to try and rid myself of the soiled feeling.

I liked it. I think it will take a couple of weeks to get up to speed on the political storyline. Give it a chance, crikey you people are so impatient!

Caligula · 03/11/2005 10:31

Enjoyable hokum. I have 2 questions:

  1. Why is it absolutley integral to the artistic vision of something that we see women totally naked all over, but never a man's penis? It always really pisses me off.

  2. Did Roman women really do their lady-garden's like that?

  3. Did Octavius really undertake a journey to Gaul with a horse? And if not, why the f**k do they have to do that?

Agree it's not a patch on I Claudius.

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:35

The lady-garden debate is irrefutable that it's compromised tosh IMHO. Modern acting is getting ever closer to the oldest profession.

unicorn · 03/11/2005 10:36

that's 3 questions Caligula!

katierocket · 03/11/2005 10:36
  1. why would you want to see penis?
2. LOL at "lady's garden" - I think the answer is probably no 3. Not sure but (and I'm going to get burned for this) so what if he didn't. It's not a history lesson, it's a drama based on history.
Caligula · 03/11/2005 10:40

KR - I want to see one so that I can see Equity is doing as shit a job of guarding the dignity of its male members (ooh -er!! ) as its female ones.

Oh yes it is 3 questions isn't it - the third one was an afterthought!

Gobblediguy · 03/11/2005 10:45

Oh was it not good? I forgot about it but have set it to record next week - saw the last 10 minutes or so.

Caligula - almost saw a willy towards the end but camera conveniently cut to something else just as it panned to it! Not that I wanted to see it - they are not the most attractive thing in the world are they?!

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:48

Yes, there were some nobs but they were hardly featured as much as the mighty boosh's (which again weren't so mighty).

nik72 · 03/11/2005 10:49

Was a bit disappointed though will keep watching in case it perks up.

However...WHY is it that every woman in it was either a total victim being rodgered by any passing male OR a scheming bitch?? PMSL at the ultra-groomed muffs but good to see Attia displaying a good pair of hips plus cellulite!!

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:51

The BBC brought down by a multitude of brazilians. I wonder if it was sipulated in the actresses contracts 'Thou shalt not have a big bush lest you offend the contemporary iead of femininity'.

What ever happened to the female branch of method acting?

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:52

Sorry, but I'm on a roll with this one

D'you think we should all send e-mails to the BBC demanding to know the historical accuracy of muff-stylee? Wouldn't it be good if the biggest debate about this programme centred on the ladee-gardens?

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 10:58

I think you're on to something there Caligula

(and, if Imay say, never has your name been so apt )

unicorn · 03/11/2005 10:58

!!
perhaps having a Brazilian ought to be changed to having a 'Roman'

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 11:00

Brainstorm!

Easy · 03/11/2005 11:01

Just seen this.

I was amazed at the 'neatness' of the ladies 'bits' as well.

monkeytrousers · 03/11/2005 11:05

Re the first 'sex' scene what do you think they do with the old gizzard when they're 'acting' at such close quarters?

And why oh why were the ladee's moaning so much? Like we don't get enough of that on channel 5.
