I think they picket the soldiers funerals because the American Govt made it legal to be gay and the soldiers are representatives of the government. I seem to remember they think America will never win a war while its legal to be gay - this is gods punishment.

I dont think he practices any religion but I would say there is Jewish in his family. I remember he went out with one of my work colleagues cousins and they were Jewish.

Im not sure about social services in the States, afterall they pay for their healthcare. I have a feeling parents have more say in how their families are brought up than we do. I remember someone saying the government lets families raise their children without interfering.
