Anyone want a peanut?

Its a cult movie for my sister and me !

MarsLady · 25/10/2005 20:10

My sister used to laugh at me for loving this film. She'd never seen it and didn't want to.

We made her watch it with us one night... she tried to steal my DVD. So I bought her one for her birthday. lol

Pass the popcorn..... I'll never love another!

"Inconcievable!"
"You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means."

Oh yes, one of my top 5 films definitely! I bought it on dvd for £4 a few months ago and DH thought I had gone mad until he watched it.

aww! i love this film too... did you ever read the book.... almost as funny as the film... wasn't a straight adaptation from the film but a real book in it's own right.... very very funny!

Zephyrrywitchescat · 26/10/2005 19:50

Noooooooooooo!!!! we haven't got the sci-fi channel. Awww my fav film in the whole wide world!!!

bran · 26/10/2005 19:50

Wasn't there something odd about the book? The guy who wrote it claimed it had been written by someone else and he just found it, or something like that?

bea · 26/10/2005 19:50

it's all a faked fairy tale book by S Morgenstern or something like that... it all gets a little confusing... but there a fantastic bit in the book where Goldman comes out of teh narrative to speak to the reader and says that this is the bit where he wrote an alternative bit of the story (or an longated version!) but his publishers wouldn't go for it ... or something like that...so he invited all thereaders to write to his publishers where they had promised to send out the part of the manuscript which got ommited from the orginal book... i wrote and got teh reply... a very funny letter detailing all the ins and outs of his figght with the publishers...

i think i may have to dig it out and read it again... it's been years!!!!

MarsLady · 26/10/2005 19:56

do you reckon I could still write to the publishers and get the funny reply?

My kids and I would love that!

OP posts:
bea · 26/10/2005 19:59

i don't know the book was published in 1973 and i wrote and got the reply in 1989 (or around there! i was at university and on a 3 month stay at an american university - where i picked the book up!)... so i suppose of they were still sending out replies in '89 i can't see why they don't do it now... but then again i think he might have included the section where there was a bit missing, in the book now , as i've just skim read some of the reviws on amazon - the missing chapter was called buttercup baby i think....

MarsLady · 26/10/2005 20:09

so could you copy me your reply? Please!

It is completely my fave film!

OP posts:
bea · 26/10/2005 20:24

OP posts:
bea · 26/10/2005 20:29

hee hee! just found it marlady... but i don't think it will make much sense to you unless you have read the book as it all about the shenanigans at his publishers and the wranglings he had to do to try and get the reunion scene/buttercups baby in the book...

anyway you are still quite welcome to have a copy of the letter... i love my copy of the book it has a lovely insert map of florin and guilder....!!!

will give it a read tonight! do get teh book from amazon.. it's ace!!!

MarsLady · 26/10/2005 20:30

bea · 26/10/2005 20:38

yup! weesadie... just CAT me with your address... hmmmm! i think i should get in contact with william goldman and ask for commision!

fuzzywuzzy · 26/10/2005 20:48

Morgenstein didn't originally write the book, someone else did, it was supposed to be a history of Florin (I think).
Morgenstein sort of abridged it (a lot), and just wrote the love story ie the Princess bride, and skipped all the (in his opinion) boring historical and geographical bits about Florin....For this he was sued by the original authors estate (although at this point original author was dead).
Morgenstein wanted to write the sequel to Princess bride, called Buttercups baby, but the original authors estate wanted Stephen King to write it!!! (apaprantly he has Florin connections).
In my copy of the book, Morgenstein asks the reader not to write in, as he explains he is being sued for breach of copyright.Love the film, loved the book too....wish I had a TV now
