Adore this film, just so hilarious and so romantic: "I will never doubt again." "There will never be a need".

Also love the fact some of it is filmed in my native county of Derbyshire.

And particularly love the bit where Westley probably shouldn't go swimming for a few hours after being raised from the dead

mads1 · 26/10/2005 22:15

Liked billy crystal as miracle max.

never seen it so going to have to rent it and watch it, ditto with the nightmare before christmas. planning on seeing nanny mcphee this weekend, wonder if DSs 13 and 15 will come or maybe not cool enough. Traditionally we always go out to the cinema on my birthday in December (only time I allow them to have popcorn at the cinema as I am such a cheapskate normally - and I have a deeply extravagant ice-cream sundae, and then we go out for dinner) but back to the subject!! The film is always my choice, was all the Lord of the Rings films which left me wracked with emotion and in need of a strong drink. Last year it was Phantom of the Opera which they didn't really enjoy but put up a good show. Wonder what it will be this year. I am sure there is some big film out just before Christmas.

If you've read the book, go on the Amazon website - there are hysterically funny postings by people who really believe all the stuff about the author, William Goldman, having stolen and abridged the book from Morgenstern. Some people even claim to have read the original and won't believe the rest when they point out that Goldman made the whole thing up!

MarsLady · 27/10/2005 23:13

fantastic!

I love stuff like that lol.

I've had my email... my copy is on route to me now. Will have to wait 5-7 days as I'm a cheapskate too and bought a book for the DTs so that I didn't have to pay delivery. lol

Hi Bea, got your letter today! Thanks so much. Haven't read it yet, am saving it for this evening and a glass of wine!

Marslady, don't want to be picky here dear but isn't it ROUS?? Also recently I got chatting to a guy who said his uncle play the ROUS in the film...?!

Enid · 28/10/2005 12:19

2[Buttercup and Westley have just entered the Fire Swamp]
Westley: [looking around] It's not that bad.
[Buttercup stares unbelievingly at him]
Westley: Well, I'm not saying I'd like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely."

weesaidie · 28/10/2005 12:24

lol.. it is so funny. Might have to get the dvd out tonight.

SoupDragon · 28/10/2005 12:35

One of DHs favourites Got it on DVD for him one birthday/Christmas.

MarsLady · 28/10/2005 14:56

Can't resist... popped in for a quick lurk but had to post this..... (and you're right of course ROUS lol)

Humperdink: My father's final words were, 'Love her, as I loved her and there
will be joy.? I present to you, your queen; Queen Buttercup.

[Buttercup comes out before the crowd. She is met by a hideous woman]

Woman: [in a horrid voice] Booooooo! Booooooo! Boooooooo!
Buttercup: [upset] Why do you do this?
Woman: Because you had love in your hands and you gave it up!
Buttercup: But they would have killed Westley if I hadn't done it.
Woman: Your true love lives, and you marry another! True love saved her in the
fire swamp, and she treated it like garbage. And that's what she is,
the Queen of Refuse. So bow down to her if you want. Bow to her. Bow
to the Queen of Slime, the Queen of Filth, the Queen of putrescence!
Boo! Boo! Rubbish! Filth! Slime! Muck! Boo! Boo! Boo!

SoupDragon · 28/10/2005 16:45
