Did anybody watch it and was it any good?

So was Martha Costello raped then? and if so, by the guy who stole the old guy's medal??

I wondered why she seemed to lose her train when the victim revealed she'd aborted a rapist's baby.

or am i reading too much into it?

The young pupil nick is cute. R PJ has a crooked nose. LIke my own so I really notice it.

Valium, no - I don't think so (about the rape, not the haggardness).

It would be too soon in any case to know she was pregnant. I imagine it's just because she didn't realise that she was referring to the abortion (feeling guilty) not the rape.

And the whole pregnancy storyline is to highlight (fairly clunkily) the difference between her and Clive, with his frisk up the pupils nonchalance.

is she supposed to be in a relationship with billy? even though he's not telling her that he's actually considering giving her silk?

But he's NOT giving her silk, he wants RPJ.

I don't think they are in a relationship, just has a soft spot.

Or is the baby his? Maybe.

Clerks don't give silk. A boring committee does.

It's quite good but I do get sick of dramas where the female character is all emotional/all over the place. why can't the female lead be together and the men be all flaky?

Plus, wouldn't she be hardened by now? Client is guilty, you got him acquitted. Stinks. Next!

Mind you, referring to the 'moral bankruptcy' of the WHOLE legal profession is more than a bit harsh.

Bloomin' 'eck - I knew I recognised Martha from somewhere - I had no idea it was dinnerladies (and that is one of my all-time favourite comedies).

I missed the first episode of this, but I will watch it on iPlayer tomorrow - I enjoyed tonight's episode, and have set it to sky+ next week. Of course R PJ is always a bonus!

I have followed her career closely .

She was in Criminal Justice a couple of years ago playing a woman who murdered he abusive husband and had her baby taken away in prison.

I cried so much DH banned me from choosing our tv viewing for months! I was shaking! (was bf 4 week old at the time in my defence)

My favourite Maxine Peake character was the neighbour in Shameless (Veronica) with the lovely Dean Lennox Kelly playing her hubbie.

I dont think we have 'met' the father yet. I think Billy is passing false info onto the clerks re who he wants for Silk. He knows that the barristers had a secret meeting with the other clerk. Thats not to say he wouldn't support Clive if he thought it would get him (Billy) further in his own career.

I'm really glad there's a thread on this - I wasn't expecting to like this at all but I'm hooked (although there are some pretty silly bits - the ongoing light-fingeredness of her pupil being one of them)!

My main impression of this show isn't that she's flaky and over-emotional, more how bloody horrible all the men in it are! All back-stabbing, over-aggressive, selfish barstewards!

Do we think the accused did it this week? I reckon he was guilty...

I also think that the father is a mystery yet to be revealed. If it had been the burglar bloke she'd have refused to take his case. She should deffo give the old guy back his medal (anonymously), though!

I really like the show and have always found Neil Stuke strangely sexy. Far more interesting than RPJ.
Def agree about the red lipstick on Martha - far too harsh and dry.

I haven't found a character in it I like at all yet, except the old man who's medals got stolen.

Maxine's lipstick seems to have amazing staying power - did anyone recognise the brand? It didn't look designer to me....
