Is Larry David Funny?

Im just watching the first episode of Curb your Enthusiasm and, Im not sure if I like it or not.

so, is he a real person? what is the show about?

he is extremely funny

and he calls someone a cunt

that it my favourite episode ever

is it improvised?

Curb your enthusiasm is really funny, but it does take a bit of getting used to the style. It's very loosely scripted and mainly improvised. Larry David is a real person playing himself.

stick with it - its fantastic - the first episode is the pilot which is why its a bit weird - by episode three I was hooked!

so you can understand why I wasnt grabbed straight away? thanks. I will stick with it because I do like that kind of American/jewish humour (which I take it is?) like Seinfeld. I loved Seinfeld.

It's cringeworthily funny and horribly near the bone. The 'Beloved Cunt' episode is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

It helps to have a bit of background. In RL Larry David made a ginormous amount of money as the Seinfeld producer in the 1990s. In Curb Your Enthusiasm he's effectively living off this money and dabbling in various projects. That much is true. The woman playing his wife is an actress, though, and I don't think he lives in LA in RL. To complicate matters, there are various cameos by 'real' celebrities who he knows, who play themselves - Ted Danson, Michael York, some of the Seinfeld actors.

I read an interview where he says the 'Larry David' character in the show is sort of based on himself, but a self who has no sense of what is socially appropriate and makes faux pas all the time.

It's very funny IMO -might take you a little while to get used to it because it's so different- but definitely worth persevering

it's fantastic although incredibly cringeworthy, it took me a while to get used to it. actually, i think i really didn't like it at the beginning by dh loves it so it grew on me. i love the way he says what he thinks and is totally upfront and tells people when they are out of order. he is constantly getting into scrapes, more often than not unintentionally. i think it is very clever, some of the episodes are so good i have been known to (nearly) wet myself. just you wait and see. we have all the series plus all of seinfeld, we don't get out much......i don't as a fule like american sit coms, hate the buggers but for some reason i love seinfeld and curb' although i have to be in the mood for curb as it can be REALLY cringeworthy sometimes but bloody fantastic. hope you enjoy it
