I am watching it - keep thinking about putting on a DVD but get drawn back into what is happening...

sharbie · 26/12/2010 21:48

just started watching - bg voice is spot on

atswimtwolengths · 26/12/2010 21:49

Yes, me too!

The actor is as annoying as Geldof! I didn't remember the single coming out a year before the concert.

Is that meant to be Paula Yates sat with him? Missed the start, but quite into it now

pinguwings · 26/12/2010 21:51

I was, but it's a poor effort. Terrible script, slow moving, okish acting but nothing special.

atswimtwolengths · 26/12/2010 22:00

No, Paula has only been in once and a non-speaking part as that. She had the lovely Trixi Whatsit on her shoulder and was watching the news on Ethiopia.

Ahh, just saw her bleached mop in bed, thanks. Am losing interest a bit now...

atswimtwolengths · 26/12/2010 22:21

Just realised - Midge Ure played a massive part, but he's not in this at all.

Oblomov · 26/12/2010 22:22

Yes. Best thing we've seen this christmmas so far. And thats not saying much for the SHITE christmas tv so far, And yes we do think he's quite like Geldof.

lorelilee · 26/12/2010 22:23

So true atswimtwolengths - he seems to have been completely airbrushed from the story - perhaps not as pushy as Bob...?

bluejeans · 26/12/2010 22:24

I think it's rubbish - very disappointed. No sense of it being 1985, no buzz about it. Actor is too 'boyish' for Geldof I think. We should be seeing Paula Yates being outrageous. That Marsha girl is annoying too

Oblomov · 26/12/2010 22:24

And yes. Quo, Rocking all over the world, WAS the best song to open.

Oblomov · 26/12/2010 22:25

Dh and I have just remembered that it was boiling that day. they were hosing all the acts down.

atswimtwolengths · 26/12/2010 22:35

They're certainly air-brushing Paula out of it - I thought anyone close to him would be working really hard on it.

FrustratedHippy · 26/12/2010 22:38

the actor is shite!

bluejeans · 26/12/2010 22:40

Was just saying to my sister maybe Paula didn't want her character to be in it. Sis reminded me Paula is dead Confused

ohforfoxsake · 26/12/2010 22:46

Pants.

sharbie · 26/12/2010 22:49

twas an oirish production - who knew paul macartney was irish (did you hear his accent)

CMOTdibbler · 26/12/2010 22:54

Actually, I really liked it - the focus was the Bob/Harvey dynamic, not the organisation of the thing, or their lives outside it.

sharbie · 26/12/2010 22:56

um yh but meeting phone call meeting - not great tv

Earlybird · 26/12/2010 22:57

Didn't see it, but assumed it would have been a documentary with real footage.

A fictionalised version with actors seems a very bad idea.

sharbie · 26/12/2010 22:58

doc on now

UnquietDad · 26/12/2010 23:11

Yes, where was Midge??

I quite enjoyed it. I couldn't help playing Spot The Anachronism though. I am turning into my parnets, who mercilessly scour (or did, in my dad's case, RIP) every episode of "Foyle's War" and the like for the odd misplaced car number or Guide badge.

What did I spot? I thought the TV in Harvey's living room was a bit modern-looking. Bit too 90s for 1985. But maybe someone with Harvey's money would have something that advanced?

sharbie · 26/12/2010 23:14

there was a rumour going around at the time that one band famously refused to play - does anyone know who it was ??

sharbie · 26/12/2010 23:15

i can think of three...
