Is X Factor fixed?

RocketSalad · 08/12/2010 11:34

So Mary in the media today claims the results are fixed.

uk.tv.yahoo.com/x-factor-blog/article/32903/x-factor-round-up-mary-says-exit-was-fixed-and-katie-reveals-her-hell-since-leaving-show.html

Is it true or is it just sour grapes?

OP posts:
juneybean · 08/12/2010 11:41

Link doesn't work...

But probably...One Direction will win.

juneybean · 08/12/2010 11:43

But sour grapes as well, because regardless of the phone votes, the judges GET to vote first, they chose to get rid of Mary. The judges vote doesn't go to deadlock every week does it?

mugggletoeandwine · 08/12/2010 11:43

Fixed, but I still love it.

RocketSalad · 08/12/2010 11:47

Sorry forgot to link it

OP posts:
juneybean · 08/12/2010 11:50

I'm actually more shocked at the poll on the side of that link!

wannaBe · 08/12/2010 11:55

yes it's fixed.

It should have been the public vote this week.

The public were led to believe that only their votes counted and the judges made a last-minute decision to have a sing-off because they knew that Cher would go home otherwise.

tbh there's no-one of any real substance in it this year - yes Matt and Rebecca can sing but they're nothing special, and oneDirection are just another boyband, and given they all entered x-factor with solo singing careers in mind I would question how long they will stick together as a group before breaking away in the hopes of their own careers.

And cher ... is just horrendous.

Summerbird73 · 08/12/2010 12:48

juneybean are you shocked at the order of the contestants then? ie Cher being first? if so i agree!

juneybean · 08/12/2010 12:54

Noo that One Direction have so few votes Shock

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 08/12/2010 12:56

It's a theatre of the macabre with Simon Cowell pulling the strings.

It is, of course, fixed.

DastardlyandSmugly · 08/12/2010 13:07

Agreed that Cher is horrendous but I like Rebecca and Matt although I think One Direction are absolutely going to win. They just look so cute together.

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 08/12/2010 13:10

I'm hoping Wand Erection's balls will drop during the final. That'll be an interesting mash up.

Matt Cardle. I know it's wrong, truly I do, but I just want to touch him there.

The3Bears · 08/12/2010 13:13

Yes its a fix imo anyway

Nickiename · 08/12/2010 13:14

In what way do people think it is fixed exactly? Mary was crap. Like a drunk woman shouting down the social club.

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 08/12/2010 13:20

Nickie, it should have been public vote only on Sunday night. No sing off. It was publicised as public vote only, Dermot said it was public vote only, Louis said it on the radio last week, RT confirmed it was public vote only, historically semi finals are always public vote only. Then suddenly in the final minutes, there's a sing off. And the general public had been voting thinking their votes counted for everything.

And suddenly it changed. Against ofcom rules for a start but did ensure that the most saleable act went through.

Ditto a few weeks ago Cheryl refusing to vote and thereby changing how things were decided.

I think 'fixed' is a fairly ignorant and naive statement. Do you really think simon cowell would risk his career on fixing a public vote? Of course not.

Manipulated, yes. Fixed, no.

Whether there was meant to be a sing off, or whether it was last minute, who cares? Mary and Cher got the lowest votes, so cher gets to sing again this week.. But after being one of the lowest in the semi's, she is not going to win. Nor would Mary have should it have been her that made it through.

So little difference it makes.

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 08/12/2010 15:55

It makes little difference to us yes DSM and maybe manipulated is a better word. But some people do invest emotion in it and spend money to vote. When that vote is irrelevant a few hours later they feel a bit miffed.

DSM · 08/12/2010 16:08

Well, it's not irrelevant. People vote, and the people with the most votes go through. In the end, the act with the most votes will win.

If you vote for someone, and someone else wins, your vote is not 'irrelevant'.

PureAsTheDrivenShow · 08/12/2010 16:15

No they were told the person with the lowest number of votes would go. And then the person out of the bottom two who the judges chose goes. Their person could have been astounding in the final next week and won overall but lost this chance because of the judges' decision, not the public's decision.

I know it's all semantics but it does matter to some people.

DSM · 08/12/2010 16:24

But.. As we don't know who actually received fewer votes, Mary could have gone anyway. And the point is, she didn't receive enough votes to go through. Neither did Cher. They sang, one was saved like every other week, but people are claiming it's a 'fix'.

If Mary had received more votes, she'd have been in the final.

UnquietDad · 08/12/2010 16:28

Agree, it is highly manipulative - did anyone ever believe otherwise? - but not "fixed". ITV have to very careful about this sort of thing. Remember the BBC "fixing" allegations from a couple of years ago which got all prize competitions suspended?

UnquietDad · 08/12/2010 16:29

Wand Erection can win as far as I am concerned. That'll keep the mums and toddlers happy. Cher can come second or third, and that way DD and I may get to see her at a free festival and not paying £25 for an overpriced arena ticket. Win-win!

LostArt · 08/12/2010 16:55

It has more to do with teaming them up with 'stars' in the final. I suspect the final four have been clear favourites for a while, so they have been trying to finds willing stars to sing with them. With the best will in the world, it would be difficult to match Mary with anyone who didn't stop working in 1973.

donnie · 08/12/2010 17:01

but who actually cares? I mean really? it's not like any of them are truly talented is it? they don't write their own music, they don't write their own lyrics and they don't play the instruments either. All they do is sing (to a backing tape) a cover version of someone else's song. Why people see this as talent is really beyond me. Then again, my standards are quite high for most things. I do find the entire thing rather tragic though. They are all puppets.

TinselinaBumSquash · 08/12/2010 17:09

Its manipulated greatly, you will se on Saturday that 3 of them will get lower brow celebs and one of them (who will go onto win) will have some superstar.

Look at last year, Olly had an intoxicated Robbie WIllimas who forgot his words, Stacey had Michael Buble and Joe had George Michael...

It happens every year, i genuinley belive that the judges chat before hadn and are told who to keep in on the the sing off.
Its more obviousl this year than in the past.

There are rumours that Matt is singing with Christina Aguleira (sp?) and Rebbecca with Amy Winehouse.. not sure about the others Cher will proably have Jay Z if they can get him and wand erection will have an amazing boyband, maybe TT again?
