Modern Family - we all love this (age from 9 - 49). Fab American sitcom done (sort of) in a docu style.

Also really enjoyed the first two series of Lie to Me, but finding the new one a bit meh.

My (grown up)DS and DD, who both loved the wire are both raving about Misfits at the moment.

Have you tried the West Wing? Truly addictive watching.

I second dinky West Wing is the best show of the last 10 years. Cleverly written, funny, touching and supremely intelligent.

and the hugely underrated (in my opinion) The War at Home, which was sadly scrapped after only a few series.

Mad Men, The Mentalist, Castle (kitsch but entertaining!), Medium, Lie to Me.

'Love Soup' with Tamsin Greig (also in Black Books) is very funny. Quite poignant, as well.First series has longer episodes, but all series good.
and the 'IT Crowd'- vv funny indeed. Definitely one of the best comedies of the last few years, imo. ( after 'Outnumbered', that is)

For comedy you should try Summer Heights High.
