We've filled up one thread, let's see if we can get through another before the end of the series!

Yes, normally the showdances are last but people have suffered in the past from simply being knackered by the time they do them.

bathbuns · 18/12/2010 20:26

ooh, although.... I had a thought. Totally irrelevant to the dancing, but if Kara and Artem want to be together - he doesn't have a permanent visa to the UK. I read a newspaper story about him having a specific work visa and working too many hours, so he had to go back to the States just before Strictly started.
How will they be together? Sob!

Sorry to digress. Wink

StoodAProleyCattleShed · 18/12/2010 20:26

ditto bathbuns, I love them

I thought Kara danced that rumba even better than last week, and sometimes when she's dancing she gets the sweetest look of vulnerability on her face ... it brings a tear to me eye Blush

tribpot · 18/12/2010 20:28

Hmm "Countryfile presenter Matt Baker is the favourite to take the glitterball trophy ahead of former EastEnder Kara Tointon and psychologist Pamela Stephenson." - no bias from the Beeb here.

Smallstuff · 18/12/2010 20:28

I love Matt but Aliona has let him down a few times with the choreography... It he had had someone more experienced I think he would have been even better.... Oh well we'll see.... My DSs have voted for him!!

sharbie · 18/12/2010 20:31

kara and more to the point artem missed a trick tonight.everyone would have just loved to see a really romantic dance from them - where on earth did he get that idea from??

StoodAProleyCattleShed · 18/12/2010 20:33

But don't you think it would've been a bit samey if they had picked the rumba, the american smooth, the waltz and then done a slow/romantic dance for their showdance as well? It needed to be something more upbeat for a bit of contrast, no?

tribpot · 18/12/2010 20:35

Yes, I think Matt and Kara need to sell the fact they simply have much more stamina than Pamela by virtue of being more than half her age! If that salsa lift had come off, it would have been great, Evil Kenieval costume aside.

tribpot · 18/12/2010 20:36

I think I mean less than half her age Grin

Snowstorm · 18/12/2010 20:37

AWFUL costumes ....

sharbie · 18/12/2010 20:37

romantic cha cha or salsa maybe

CaveMum · 18/12/2010 20:39

JingleHell I agree that Paddy and Keith were great, but Robert Webb and later Rufus Hound were pure genius!

Voting rules have been clarified on the website.

"Phone lines will open after all three couples have danced for the first time. Lines will then be frozen at a time announced on the programme. The couple with fewest votes will be eliminated at the start of the Results Show. In the very unlikely event of two couples being tied at the bottom of the phone vote Head Judge Len Goodman will have the casting vote so that one couple will still be eliminated. The phone lines will then be reopened but all the votes already cast for the two remaining couples will still count and will be carried over.

The two remaining couples will dance twice more for your votes in the Results Show before the lines are closed and the winner announced."

Think a tie is pretty unlikely under the circs. I think some of the changes were made to prevent that circumstance that led to Tom not being able to go through to the final even if he got the most public votes - and they didn't realise until after the public had started voting.

StoodAProleyCattleShed · 18/12/2010 20:41

I think if I'd been Artem, I'd have put together a really dramatic, sexy Hollywood routine (I'm thinking the Cyd Charisse/Gene Kelly sequence in Singin' in the Rain here) to make the most of Kara's glamourousness.

ipredicttrouble · 18/12/2010 20:45

I think Matt deserves to go based on all that.

I really liked him for the first half of the series but I just think he's become too desperate and a bit OTT for my liking.

Agree that the showdances were all somewhat disappointing but Matt's was by far the worse.

Still want Kara to win, can't bear to see Pamela's gushing reaction if she does. On the other hand, I do love James and would him to win it. Just not with 'Granny' Grin

tribpot · 18/12/2010 20:45

Again, I think we'll get that in the american smooth and the waltz, Stood.

StoodAProleyCattleShed · 18/12/2010 20:46

Yes, their American Smooth had that Hollywood glamour in spades. I just hope they get the chance to dance it. If they go out first I'll be gutted :(

fartmeistergeneral · 18/12/2010 20:54

Think we should just all forget the showdances and concentrate on the others. All awful. Hoping people will vote for Kara or Matt based on their efforts during the series.

Am a bit pissed off to be honest. Was hoping to really enjoy tonight, but need Aliona taken out back and lashed.

tribpot · 18/12/2010 21:00

Right, five mins til we're back in action.

DoNotFeedMeMincePies · 18/12/2010 21:06

Well, as far as I'm concerned, after that showdance choreography, Aliona has now taken over the place of Erin Boag in the dark place of my mind. It's taken Erin YEARS to redeem herself.

jsgirl · 18/12/2010 21:08

Squeeeeeeaaaallllll!!!!!! It's back on but get a bloody move on! Worried for Matt though - I'm actually shaking with nerves.

CaveMum · 18/12/2010 21:09

Here we go, the first couple to leave is.....

OP posts:
JustKeepSparkling · 18/12/2010 21:09

I thought it at the time, but Kara hurt her arm didn't she? :(

DoNotFeedMeMincePies · 18/12/2010 21:09

Now that's a SHOCK!

CaveMum · 18/12/2010 21:09

Pamela and James
