Is Eggheads fixed?!

Because they seem to get easier questions, or if they get a hard question they pretend to have no idea, then just "luckily" guess the right answer from seemingly nowhere.

I don't know why I watch it as it just annoys me lol

I have always though that.

southeastastra · 05/11/2010 21:38

it's the most dullest show ever. do people really watch it?

bring back 15 to 1

CountessVonKnackerstein · 05/11/2010 21:39

Think so. Chief "egg" lives near me but doesn't ever enter any pub quizzes!

Rocketbird · 05/11/2010 21:40

Never mind if it's fixed. My mum wants to know who CJ is married to as he mentioned his honeymoon. I suggested he was married to himself but she wasn't buying that... :o

iceandlemon · 05/11/2010 21:43

Some friends of my parents were in a team which beat the eggheads. This was a few years ago though, so it wasn't fixed then.

labtest · 06/11/2010 07:53

Southeastastra, I loved 15-1 and appeared on it years back. Great fun. Also appeared on Blockbusters in the 80s. Now if I could just get a team together I would be applying for Eggheads but most of my friends just want to beat up CJ so can't risk it.

frazzledazzle · 06/11/2010 09:55

CJ is in a civil partnership I think.

Simbacatlives · 06/11/2010 10:04

I was in a hotel where they were auditioning for egg heads. They were all swotting up in the foyer- mistily men.

The guy selecting came over and asked us- group of middle aged women if we were interested. We laughed. The men with us were very keen to have a go but we were in a big meeting. I think they must struggle to get women.

Simbacatlives · 06/11/2010 10:05

Mostly men

KurriPowderTreasonAndPlot · 06/11/2010 10:07

I heard/read somewhere that the challenging team go through a trial run with an extra member, and afterwards the production crew removed the person who gets the most questions right from the team Shock - that might be a lie though.

I went on writing course run by Chris once, he was an OK guy, if little eggheady Grin

DinahRod · 06/11/2010 10:07

No, I don't think it's fixed but pit them against a netball team of under 25s and the EH win.

Dh and ds love Eggheads. I like Kevin.

aristomache · 06/11/2010 10:16

God I loved 15 to 1, with william G stewart Grin

I gave up watching eggheads as it annoyed me too much, all of the eggheads are deeply unlikeable - CJ in particular

aristomache · 06/11/2010 10:17

didn't daphne win 15 to 1? Confused

DinahRod · 06/11/2010 10:19

CJ's nobbishness is part of its charm Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/11/2010 10:27

I agree re bring back 15-1. I loved that programme and used to love keeping track of my scores and seeing how I would fare against the competitors. And the excitement of the final round when one competitor would try to answer all the questions themselves to get the top score rather than cowardly passing the questions on to the others! Fantastic!

I have not watched Eggheads much but the male eggheads are sooooooo up themselves, it is unbearable. CJ is the sort of person who, if I found him drowning, I would probably hold his head under rather than help him out. He is so superior about what he knows, and - what pisses me off the most - so condemnatory about anything he doesn't know. I think it was him who did not know that a penny farthing was the name of those early bicycles with one large and one small wheel. How on earth can he not have known that??!!

hocuspontas · 06/11/2010 10:58

Imagine being the challengers that win and take home thousands. Then imagine being the challengers that win the day after. You'd feel so cheated wouldn't you?
I don't know why I watch it. My dds can answer 99% of those questions or make an educated guess out of the three. The Eggheads must be earning lots of money to appear in such a dumbed down programme! It is fun though when CJ gets something wrong. I love his look that says 'NOBODY could have known that!' Tee hee

aristomache · 06/11/2010 11:00

I know it isn't important but is CJ gay?

just checking my gaydar Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/11/2010 11:04

Yeah, nobody could have known that a penny farthing was a type of bike. Hmm

I knew that as a primary school child - am I really the only person who knows that? I saw that question and thought "oh what a giveaway question" and then CJ got it wrong and reacted as if he had been asked to name the number of grains of sand on a standard beach.

He is nothing short of a prick.

And yes, presumably gay.

PurplePillow · 06/11/2010 11:10

Well if CJ isn't gay all our gaydar are malfunctioning WinkGrin

Even my dd1 (10.8) can answer most of the questions or guesses well Grin but she is like that with buzz on the ps2 Grin

aristomache · 06/11/2010 11:13

should we get together a MN team? I'd be up for it!!

DinahRod · 06/11/2010 11:19

Ooooh, excellent idea. There are some frighteningly clever people on MN. My qualification for team membership is I know what a penny-farthing is and know a little about a lot. Dh would be green with Envy

BitOfFawkes · 06/11/2010 11:23

I think CJ only has eyes for CJ- but he has been acting all his life, so I'm sure the self-love is mostly a performance.

Dumbledoresgirl · 06/11/2010 11:59

He's an actor? Shock

He must have a limited repetoire. I can't see him playing the part of a modest, caring husband, somehow.

aristomache · 06/11/2010 12:04

BUMPING for other MNers who may want to join the team!!

CuppaTeaJanice · 06/11/2010 12:07

Has anyone else noticed the way that CJ kind of flutters his eyes when he's explaining some useless fact about a question that a challenger got wrong? It's really creepy, cos his irises have disappeared, you can just see the whites.
