Well almost .

He makes his living as Henry VIIIth and goes into schools and historic castles etc.

Anyhow - this morning he got a call from the Beeb (dahlings) and they want him to come to London on 25th September for a live show at Trafalger Square where Rolf (and around 100 other artists) are going to recreate the Hans Holbein(sp?) painting of Henry VIIIth. When finished it's apparently going to be hung from Nelson's Column!

DH is going up to talk to people, mingle and pose for photos and will meet some of the amateur artists going along and pose for portraits etc - there's going to be a red carpet, orchestra and everything.

DH is going to be interviewed by Rolf and will be in costume (which was based upon the Holbein painting). There's apparently another Henry going as well from the North of England so DH is looking forward to meeting him.

Best of all they are actually going to pay him - brilliant.

Oh am so pleased and proud of him.

Look out for Rolf on Art on BBC1 on Sunday 25th September.

Weird sense of deja vu as I've "met" Rolf a couple of times.

Once when I was 18 months old and fell out of my pushchair outside a shop (in the days where Mums could leave the toddler outside the shop). Dear Rolf happened to be passing and picked me up laid on the sympathy "poor little thing" etc.

Then when I was 9 and living on a sink estate in SE London he came to paint a mural on the side of some flats - the Beeb came to film and I "met" him again.

Now this - bizarre. Still so excited about it all.

Brilliant! We love Rolf Harris - we sing along to his Greatest Hits album in the car (ds1 does a very good Jake the Peg).

I love

Bet not many people can say that

whimsy · 12/09/2005 14:37

Tortington · 12/09/2005 14:45

NomDePlume · 12/09/2005 14:48

Poor old Nelson , has anyone asked permission to hang things from his column ?! I'll keep my eyes peeled for your DH.

edam · 12/09/2005 14:53

So you are being stalked by RH but in a good way?
Sounds like fun. What an extraordinary job your dh has - good job he's not at Method actor (I assume)!

Aragon · 12/09/2005 14:54

Nah - he can't divorce or behead me - I've given him the one thing Henry always wanted - a son.

(who is currently dismanteling the tool box - gotta go)

DEFFO BRILL thanks

bluesky · 13/09/2005 12:42

Excellent!

I really enjoyed the one rolf did recently when they recreated the mona Lisa, looked great fun.

Aragon · 13/09/2005 12:53

Just looked up the Constable one they did last year - 200 different artists all did a little bit of the painting on a normal sized board and then they put them all together to make one huge painting - really effective.

Looked up the Holbein one - loads of celebs going so I rang DH and told him to take a camera and an autograph book when he goes.

would that be why you're called Aragon then?

Yeah - am Aragon because she was the longest lasting of Henry's wives. He was married to her for nearly 30 years before he divorced her for Anne Boleyn.

Hausfrau - as a kid he wanted to be a comedien/comedy actor. However, from his acting years and friends we know only 2 still working - and neither are especially well known. Helps if you know someone I think.
He always loved history and archaeology though and performing and history in one job is his idea of heaven.

That is so brilliant and my goodness doesn't he look like Hal too!? I love old Rolf as well

(And I thought I had a job keeping on top of dh's work clothes on the washing/irorning front!!)

AlmostAnAngel · 13/09/2005 14:06

cool! does he get to keep the pic?

JoolsToo · 13/09/2005 14:14

Aah! but Katherine Parr SURVIVED him - no mean feat!

my favourite period in history - are you watching David Sharkey?

Aragon · 13/09/2005 15:04

No - he won't get to keep any pics as there's going to be a massive painting made up of 200 or so smaller paintings - each artist will take a small piece of the Holbein one and paint that little bit on a normal sized canvas - it's going to be huge when they're all put together.

I do like Rolf on Art and watch it whenever it's on - am proud of DH.

And I agree that Parr might be a better nickname - she did outlive him though not by much. Apparently died in childbirth within 2 years of Henry's death - poor woman.

Love David Starkey's take on history
