nigella's new show

Was it just me? I thought both her "pizza" and her fajita's looked and sounded a bit gross and pretty bland. I am not some cordon bleu chef, but I want my cookery shows to demonstrate food that are in some way aspirational. Every day, yes (Jamie and Nigel do fab stuff which immediately make you hungry), but this show (and I do normally like Nigella) was just like me on an uninspired Saturday night wondering what to knock up.

Have to agree - that pizza looked like my kids had made it! Lamb steaks looked good though!

chocoholic · 08/10/2010 10:58

The trifle - what was that?

I agree..and 'lagerita'..I mean, she's getting paid good money for this!

SwimLittleFish · 08/10/2010 13:17

I agree. Rubbish food.

I laughed at her rostinis.
They came to her as an 'apparition'. Lol. I imagined a ghostly bowl of over-fried, over-crispy dried out nuggets of crap appearing before her.

I thought she was over the top and sometimes her accent got really plummy.

lazarusb · 08/10/2010 17:26

Here's an idea- Shakebite- like snakebite but with milk in it. Drink it before it curdles! You can have that one on me Nigella Grin

inkyfingers · 08/10/2010 17:31

I'm more interested in her clothes tbh. She should do a clothes prog and knock off Gok so to speak.

She's done some fantastic books and that's enough cooking for anyone. Why should she dream up more trifles on a plate (Domestic Goddess) and weird eggy crap on bottom of a pyrex. Fried potato bits....

She did a makeup/beauty page years ago which I really liked - she made out she's not into makeup, 'but I found this amazing mascara ... blah, blah'.

hattymattie · 08/10/2010 19:05

Hmmm - interesting Inky and I am getting a bit bored with Gok. There is a big thread on Style and Beauty about her dress last night which I have to admit was gorgeous!

dress great.

Food the sort of stuff I knocked up when I was a student.

It was uninspired and bland crappy food.

This was NOT the Nigella I know and love.

Maybe it is a bizar TV experiment? Maybe next week will be spag hoops on toast????

And see how far she can go?

Heinz soup with a slice of toast?

turnitup · 09/10/2010 18:32

Agree about the pizza, it looked so dry with any tomatoes.

Loved the lamb and the trifle though.

But mostly I LOVED the pink Kitchenaid mixer.......I was just Envy Envy Envy Grin

Housewife2010 · 10/10/2010 10:49

I tried the roastinis a few weeks back. The description sounded fab, but they were very disappointing.
The chocolate peanut butter cheesecake was nice.

southeastastra · 10/10/2010 10:53

i find her quite mesmerising so i watched it and will probably try to make the lamb steak things. don't usually watch cookery shows either!

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 11/10/2010 10:14

I think she is scraping the bottom of the proverbial kitchen barrel as far as the actual recipes go - nothing really new here - but she's just so gorgeous Grin - that it doesn't mater what she actually cooks up.

FunkySkunk · 11/10/2010 10:17

I love her. I really do.

But I switched the programme off. Awful, awful food.

Fannyanny · 11/10/2010 16:46

Just watched repeat of this ep. I too am usually loving the tongue in cheekbones loveliness of the Goddess. However this was just Godawful. Confused

Fannyanny · 11/10/2010 16:50

...with you on the Kitchenaid tho, turnitup Envy

BarringtonWomble · 11/10/2010 16:51

I liked the dress too.

But the pizza looked uninteresting. Like a bit of old yorkshire pudding with cheese on it. And the pasta she made for the teenagers..what was different about that??Confused

I still like her though and love her poncy fairy lights in the kitchenBlush

Fannyanny · 11/10/2010 18:02

Do you think she has purposely turned into a caricature of herself iykwim? In an ironic laughing-at-myself sort of way. Bit like the recent Trinny and Susannah mockumentary, which was fab Grin

Marlinspike · 11/10/2010 18:11

Common theme going on here that she's lost her way a bit - the pizza looked hideous; i wouldn't touch it, and believe you me I would eat most things!

The trifle - the thought of whipping cream and grating oranges before going to work was COMPLETELY LUDICROUS! Who would do such a thing? And I get very cross when TV chefs create a recipe, say that it only takes minutes, yet completely ignore the getting out / washing up/ putting away that needs to be done! We don't all have all our appliances to hand in our huge and stylishly boho kitchens.

Also - WTF were all the fairy lights about!

turnitup · 13/10/2010 20:40

Oh dear, just saw the write up on what is going to be shown tomorrow and when I saw it in the book, my face was like Hmm

It's spaghetti with...............marmite Shock

hattymattie · 14/10/2010 09:31

Well I'm going to watch - just out of pure curiosity!

flibbertigibbert · 14/10/2010 19:05

I just watched it on iPlayer. Awful. The food looked so unappealing. I'm fed up of her fake friends going on about how fabulous she is as well. I find her food really samey now - it'll be an OTT dessert with a whole stick of butter, a pasta dish and then an Oriental thing to feel cleansed after all the stodge.

By contrast, I watched Jamie's piri-piri chicken the other day and went straight out and got the ingredients for it. He's got more natural in his shows whereas Nigella is just a caricature.

turnitup · 14/10/2010 20:09

I cant help but love Nigella but her food is calorific!

Hulababy · 14/10/2010 20:12

turnitup = that;s way it always tastes so good!
