OP posts:

I was sat waiting for it too Sad

UnquietDad · 05/10/2010 14:38

Finally, some sense. I was beginning to think I was the only person who cared about this!

What is the sodding point of BBC Sport? Why cancel one of BBC 2's top programmes for this tedious pile of wank featuring arseholes in stupid trousers?

Surely no more than a million or so people can have been interested in the golf. There are only two teams. One of them has to win. Jeeezus, golf makes me lose the will to live.

Am I missing Only Connect????? Didn't realise it was on at the moment.

Also switched on for UC. Golf should be relegated to BBC10 or something.

I know it's a whole six days until the next University Challenge, but I just wanted to get the rules for Mumsnet Challenge in place, ready for you to pose any questions that may arise before them commencement of the tournament.

OK. The rules.
You get one point for every question you answer correctly BEFORE or at the same time as the contestants. No extra points for starter questions, no points deducted for interrupting with a wrong answer. If one of the contestants interrupts with an incorrect answer and you blurt out an answer in panic, you are allowed to change your mind, but in all other circumstances you must only give one answer.

Monday evening will be time to relay our points to one another. I usually watch on Sky+ as I'll be feeding DD at that time. The winner from each round gives everyone else a forfeit, which they must complete.

This is based on trust, so you must be completely honest. No false modesty, no exaggerating your scores and no pretending to have done the forfeit.

loopyloops · 05/10/2010 23:16

OP posts:
sharbie · 05/10/2010 23:18

thanks Smile

poppyknot · 05/10/2010 23:19

Can I get a special pre-competion bonus point for having Bamber Gascoigne's autograph from the time my brother was on UC (more than thirty years ago - they lost in the first round :-( ......)

loopyloops · 05/10/2010 23:21

No extra points for that I'm afraid, but you can have it as your mascot.

OP posts:
poppyknot · 05/10/2010 23:29

That's cool. Will there be a virtual voice to say 'Emen College, Poppyknot' if I buzz in ? (If ever............)

loopyloops · 05/10/2010 23:40

No, silly, you obviously don't know the VERY STRICT University Challenge rules that go on in my house.

All visitors must comply or they are not welcome.
No phone calls to be made or accepted on the premises
No laptops nearby, screen not visible at all
No chatting or asking questions apart from to slag of their looks/general weirdness
No telling how many points you have until the very end

And the most important rule

Always back the team with the least "I'm readings." Eg.
I read French - I hate you
I'm reading French - nobber
I study French - good
I'm studying French - great
I'm doing French - I love you and want you to win.
