Which TV shows are your DCs randomly scared of?

DS1 is terrified by Sarah Jane in Mighty Mites (actually that eye make up scares me slightly) and also by Grandpa in My Pocket (which I find harder to understand).

He's so scared of Sarah Jane that he runs across the room to pull out the plug if so much as the trailer comes on! However he's quite happy to watch her in Higgledy House etc.

Please tell me I'm not alone in having an abnormally sensitive child Grin

mine used to be terrified of razzle dazzle.

Sarah Jane's eye make is scary, makes her look really old too...

Hazeyjane · 25/08/2010 07:53

numberjacks - although not the numbertaker, strangely enough because he is truly terrifying. dd2 is scared of 'the blob blob man', who apparently is in the corner of her room, and 'the bubble man', who lives on the stairs.

she can watch scooby doo, disney and spiderman with no problem at all!

theyoungvisiter · 25/08/2010 08:12

I'm quite scared of the numbertaker - imagine meeting him in a dark alleyway!

Numberjacks scared all of mine - don't blame them though - the Puzzler, Spooky Spoon, the Numbertaker - all terrifying. Why would they make a programme like that for pre-schoolers??

All three also freaked out by the metamorphosing "smiley house" in Step Inside. That bit where the smoke puffs out of the chimney. Uggghhhh. Shudder.

theyoungvisiter · 25/08/2010 08:21

I don't mind the smiley house - it's the smiley Mr Mopple played by Chris. There's something about his cheshire grin that just freaks me out!

Again, DS1 has no problems, this is purely my issue. Grin

Oh yes. We had the whole "that man in the funny waistcoat looks just like Chris....boo hoo boo hoo" thing too. (Me as well as the kids!!)

But, youngvisiter, for the true weirded-out-by-Chris experience, you need to see him in something called Maths Mansion on Channel 4 - where he was the "Bad Man" who kidnapped a load of kids and imprisoned them in a scary house and wouldn't let them out until they solved maths problems. Be still my boggling mind.

theyoungvisiter · 25/08/2010 08:43

uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrhhhhj

[giant shudder]

Pebbles I'm glad your list is as long as ours!

I also forgot Nuzzle and Scratch - DS used to cry when he saw the opening sequence.

DS3 (3) likes Numberjacks, but is terrified of Spooky Spoon. So he will watch it then flee the room when SS appears.

DS2, now 5, used to be terrified of Yo Gabba Gabba and the Wiggles Space Dancing DVD.

DS1, now 9, hated the Story Makers' opening titles. Not sure if this programme is even on CBeebies anymore.

deaddei · 25/08/2010 10:41

I used to cry at Andy Pandy in the 60's- it was the weird plinky plonk theme.

midnightexpress · 25/08/2010 10:48

DS2 is another one who doesn't like Numberjacks. Like hazey, it's not the terrifying numbertaker, strangely, but the 'ploblemblob' that he hates.

He also hides outside the door when grandpa in my pocket is on -great Aunt Loretta freaks himout and he worries about grandpa getting sucked up by the hoover.

Fortunately, our aerial has been broken since easter, so we are mercifully CBeebies-free these days.

hollyoaks · 25/08/2010 10:49

DD loves Come Outside, but cries when Pippin gets lost, so basically every episode.

I hated Thunderbirds when I was little, it was the fake bodies but REAL hands!!!!!

Itsjustafleshwound · 25/08/2010 10:50

Space Pirates

Genie episode of 'Lazytown'

I despair .....

GoodDaysBadDays · 25/08/2010 10:52

Ds is terrified of Come Outside - my suspicion is that it's Aunty Mable he's scared of!

He's also scared of Mr Tumble and Justin

Shame as he has sn and uses Makaton so Something Special is perfect for him!

Squitten · 25/08/2010 11:07

DS loves the Numberjacks usually but has recently developed a fear of the Puzzler. He also got really freaked out by the Pinky Ponk lately but we went to the live ITNG show and that seems to have helped him get over it...

theyoungvisiter · 25/08/2010 15:09

DS doesn't like Come Outside. I'm not sure what he doesn't like - but I think it's probably Auntie Mabel too!

Wow, who would have thought Cbeebies was such a minefield - it's a good job we don't get any more exciting channels Grin

Raahh · 25/08/2010 16:17

Consensus seems to be numberjacks is scary- Ds loved it, but DD hates it with a passion. It started off just being scared of the puzzler (floating red head with glasses and sounds like Harry Hill- grim). Now it is the whole thing.

And at 4, she has happily watched Gremlins, loves Doctor Who, and is generally not scared of anything!

theyoungvisiter · 25/08/2010 16:20

It's a bit unfortunate really isn't it, given that it's supposed to be a programme encouraging kids to like maths and find it approachable and not scary Grin

Raahh · 25/08/2010 16:34

true- and it worked a treat with DS! wonder if the programme makers knew it would have such an effect on it's core viewers!!

Pioneer · 25/08/2010 19:29

My DS also totally terrified by the smiling house in Step Inside - I mean complete meltdown.

I've been known to run across the kitchen to turn it over because it's that bad.

Pioneer · 25/08/2010 19:31

Oh my DS loves Numberjacks. He laughs his head off at The Puzzler!

seaturtle · 25/08/2010 19:37

Mr Pontipine's moustache.

And certain episodes of Brum. DS is 2. He used to love Brum but I bought him a new Brum DVD recently and left him to it while I made dinner. Found him cowering behind the sofa while Brum chased some running bushes...

cyteen · 25/08/2010 19:41

My DS has only just got over his terror of seeing the Ninky Nonk going for a particularly bumpy ride (up a tree etc.) Bonus fear if the Tombliboos lose their trousers during said ride. He's also now able to watch the Pinky Ponk ponk without screaming and running away Confused

tegan · 26/08/2010 07:43

ds is 20 mths and loves bear in the big blue house but hate him sniffing at the start of the show.

my other dc's have all hated the numberjacks and dd1 now 12 loved teletubbies but hated a little wheeled bear on there
