Anyone watching? I can't believe the 22 yo can function every day at work drinking so much every night! (Don't know if she works, but she must pay for it somehow) [judgy emoticon] She'll notice the absence of her liver when it's screwed up...

I am watching. Making me feel old.

maxpower · 23/08/2010 21:15

Fascinating to see my collagues at work - much sympathy for them trying to deal with these irresponsible patients who expect the miracles with no effort on their part. They have such patience and self control to not tell these idiots sitting there laughing about their failing livers to eff off.

maxpower · 23/08/2010 21:18

OMG 14 Shock

expatinscotland · 23/08/2010 21:18

WTF? This guy thinks drinking a bottle of voddy every day is funny? That 33-year-old looks like she's 43.

How sad!

sorrento56 · 23/08/2010 21:19

was that blonde 33? Shock

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 23/08/2010 21:21

sweet jesus why why why do they do it?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 23/08/2010 21:22

Words fail me, I've put off taking MS medication because it's expensive. Hmm

expatinscotland · 23/08/2010 21:25

Two liver transplants and he's still using drugs?!

EightiesChick · 23/08/2010 21:25

TWO liver transplants by the age of 30! Shock

OP posts:
ifancyashandy · 23/08/2010 21:26

She looked older that 43! Not that I'm anyway near that age, oh no.....!

This is, ahem, sobering stuff.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 23/08/2010 21:26

God, why don't people learn?

EightiesChick · 23/08/2010 21:26

And he has small DC Shock

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 23/08/2010 21:26

I thought they had to be sober/drug-free for a given period of time before being allocated a liver?

Yes they do have to be sober before they can go on the transplant list, then stay sober whilst on the list. If blood tests show they haven't been staying sober they are taken off the list.

megonthemoon · 23/08/2010 21:29

The girl who said "I don't understand my liver so I don't need to worry about it" as if that made it all ok.a What a wonderful attitude...

The doctors must despair when they are asked to help people like this. It must make them feel like their jobs are so futile.

Also Shock at the 33 year old- she is the same age as me but I am finding that very hard to believe.

jeee · 23/08/2010 21:30

Please don't let this programme put you off the idea of liver donation - my sister (who had two liver transplants in the space of a month in her twenties) died two years ago waiting for a liver.

mears · 23/08/2010 21:30

I am doing the ironing with a glass of wine in my hand. Makes you feel guilty. However don't we all think it will never happen to us?

Ponders · 23/08/2010 21:32

mears, do you have 3 hands? Wink

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/08/2010 21:36

So sorry to hear about your sister jeee.

We lost our son to acute liver failure when he was 15 months old. He had four transplants in 6 months. He was lucky enough to receive a liver whenever he needed it, but there were other parents in Kings who lost their children as a donor liver wasn't available in time.

sorrento56 · 23/08/2010 21:40

It doesn't look good...Sad.

expatinscotland · 23/08/2010 21:42
  1. a lifelong drinker with heart condition.

and they still transplanted him?

sorry, but this is majorly putting me off liver donation.

sorry to hear of your losses

this is the problem - the surgeons are under such pressure not to judge patients yet they have huge responsibility in ensuring that precious organs aren't 'wasted'
