I was roffling at how much posher he sounds when talking to his mum and dad. Wink

I love Armstrong & Miller.

this is a bit dull though isn't it, all that title & estate business.

MollieO · 23/08/2010 21:38

I'm a bit gobsmacked by the size of his bald patch to pay any serious attention to the programme contents. I used to fancy him but not now [fickle emoticon].

ValiumSingleton · 23/08/2010 21:40

This is one of the dullest ones I've ever seen.

CerealOffender · 23/08/2010 21:42

i had to stop watching, his excitment at his 12 times removed grandfather's poshness is nauseating.

i love armstrong and miller but now i just think he is a nob

scurryfunge · 23/08/2010 21:45

Yeah,I prefer it when they feature real people who have struggled to survive.

He is just privileged and very boring.

Hulababy · 23/08/2010 22:00

I prefer it when there is some scandal Grin

CerealOffender · 23/08/2010 22:01

i prefer when the subject has to do more than survey the reference books in his parents well appointed home

OP posts:
MollieO · 23/08/2010 22:02

I prefer Ben Miller - he has a PhD in quantum physics and is very bright indeed (but not posh).

CerealOffender · 23/08/2010 22:02

oh yes to ben miller.

CerealOffender · 23/08/2010 22:06

i thought dervla whatsherface was fascinating. shame we had to put up with her inane chatter throughout

OP posts:
WetAugust · 23/08/2010 22:35

Very dull - I gave up

MavisGrind · 23/08/2010 22:40

It would seem that despite my left leaning, union supporting, power to the people ideals I just fancy a bit of posh. Trying to dismiss this as a love of British History but actually just fancy Zander...

DinahRod · 23/08/2010 22:48

Must only be me then, but dh & I really enjoyed it, he's articulate and enthusiastic and think quite a lot of ppl would enjoy tracing family back to 1066.

Liked the bit about his ancestor being 'poisoned' and BIL getting hung for murder - except the poison had been self-administered to treat syphilis caught from visiting prostitutes when at school. And his later ancestor who had financed Charlie I who betrayed him, then turned scientist and helped start the Indust Rev and had his little finger nicked...

purits · 23/08/2010 22:49

I enjoyed the programme, it covered a lot of history. I think the series editor must have been on holiday when they made this prog - don't they know that the unwriiten rule is "find a multicultural immigrant somewhere in the ancestry".Hmm

DinahRod · 23/08/2010 23:00

????

Anyway, that would be William the Conq Wink

jonicomelately · 23/08/2010 23:09

How proud William the Conquerer would be to learn that his grandson (x27) grew up to be one half of a comedy duo who have their own mildly amusing sketch show on BBC2.

purits · 23/08/2010 23:09

You prove my point, Dinah. Not happy until they go back a long way (over a thousand years) to find the foreign ancestor!

hellymelly · 23/08/2010 23:16

My DH is descended from guillaume le batard too-so does that mean we are related to Mr miller? ooh er.

southeastastra · 24/08/2010 08:12

lol at this thread, i thought it was quite entertaining but snoottastic. i love they way he introduced himself as xander to his posho cousin.

sethstarkaddersmum · 24/08/2010 09:51

I didn't mind this one so much (apart from the tedium) because he hasn't built his career on not being posh. It was the Kevin Whately one that made me cringe most, when he pretended he thought Turkey merchant meant someone who sold turkeys.

i thought it was a great one!

he seemed lovely to me (bald spot and all).

whats wrong with being posh?

TheCrackFox · 24/08/2010 10:25

I've been call my DH Eil (he is called Neil) all day.

I love the way he claimed he hadn't grown up with privilege but then drove up his parents' gravel drive. Arf.

The most important fact that I gleaned was that you shouldn't drive faster than 5mph on someone elses drive. Double arf.

Anyhoo, I found it very interesting. Most of us are probably descended from William the Conq but most of us couldn't prove it.
