Do you know, something makes me suspect they might not be Guardian readers.

What's going with Eden's dad's hair? Is it a syrup?

Flossie69 · 27/07/2010 21:03

Eden cooking with her Dad was sweet, though, and I think i might try the leeks in the shepherds pie thing

Numberfour · 28/07/2010 11:26

i agree: child abuse

massivenamechange · 26/08/2010 20:02

omg..... Yuck. I feel violated for having seen half an episode.

can anyone think of a kind of reverse version of this for nice children? Something along the lines of pond-dipping, playing chasings and climbing trees... and eating sausages maybe.

Did anyone watch the latest episode with Matthew in it?

I actually really enjoyed it, I haven't seen any of the others (which sound dire reading your comments!) so all I saw was an episode about a very sweet little boy chasing his dream with the support of his parents.

I guess I liked it because my second son (9) is a bit like him, not to the point of cross-dressing, but he likes fashion and having pictures taken of him. He watched it with me and muttered at the end that Matthew seemed like a nice boy.

Of course the realisations about the child modelling are quite annoying (I found myself thinking "They're only kids FFS" at several points) but it was good at the end with him seeing the results in a magazine.

But all-in-all, it was very nice to see a boy with peculiar interests having fun but also seeing his parents foster those interests with pride and an open mind, even over other things like his sexuality as he grows up (which my wife and I have considered too with our second son).

LifeIsButtercream · 01/09/2010 19:29

I watched the episode with Matthew in - he seems like a lovely little boy and I found it lovely that he had the confidence and his parents equiped him with the self-belief and supported him to be his own person and not to try and force him into a 'boy' mould.

Last night's episode though, with Liane? Shock that was just disturbing! That poor little girl - it was so sad to hear her saying that she didn't feel confident to face the world without heavy make-up on - AT 8!

southeastastra · 01/09/2010 19:41

yes agree about matthew, he was gorgeous a real character too. i'd quite like one of my sons to be that interested in fashion Grin

chaya5738 · 02/09/2010 10:20

I agree that the episode about Mathew was lovely. His parents were so support of him and were raising him to be the boy he was rather than the boy they wanted him to be.

That episode was quite different from previous ones where the little girls were basically told they had to change some how and lose their innocence and spontaneity. The girls in previous episodes were sexualised and objectified in a way that Mathew didn't seem to be.

Fizzywinelover · 02/09/2010 23:14

I saw the episode with Matthew also and agree. He seemed like a lovely boy, and his parents loving and supportive. it was a really nice episode.

chaya5738 · 03/09/2010 14:10

I just watched the episode with Liane on BBC iplayer. OMG.

Anyone seen it?

I wanted to cry when the four year old started putting on makeup.

Clary · 04/09/2010 00:07

Ah WIngdad I watched this earlier (Matthew one) and thought of you with yr thread the other day.

I agree, tho modelling etc seemed hideous, the lad himself was sweet and both his parents, in particular his mum I thought were lovely, really supportive.

The Liane episode is horrid, really toe-curling.

brassick · 04/09/2010 21:48

Watched the Liane one today.

Her mother was totally deluded. It was really sad when the four year old started putting on makeup, and the mother was really pleased that she could start joining in with her and Liane...

Loved Matthew though, and the way his parents were behind him whatever he chooses to do.

sungirltan · 04/09/2010 21:55

the liane one was horrifying. orange mother forcing her nasty, cheap orange make up on her little girls.

on the other hand it made the stuff i worry about (a bit of sparkly lipgloss/nail polish at weekends/parties on my neice, 9) seem really tame and really not a big deal :-)

Wanderingsheep · 04/09/2010 22:02

It was so sad that she hated how she looked without make up, yet she looked sooo much prettier without it!

I disagree with some of the comments on here about child abuse though. Hmm a bit insulting to the victims of real child abuse. The children weren't exactly miserable were they? Just growing too old too soon.
