What does your teenage DD clean her face with?

Bless her she's only 12 and her skin is already not good.

Clearasil products are nasty, really strip her skin.

Witch / Tea tree products don't seem to do much.

Freederm doesn't seem to do anything.

Does anyone use this Nivea Young stuff?

I bought her some Tea Tree foaming stuff from Body Shop last week and her face has come up all red and sore.

Any recommendations?

Clearasil Gentle Face Wash here (but she is now 17).

hmm, sounds like she's got pretty sensitive skin. So I'd probably ignore the fact she's 12 and start looking at all the sensitive skin products. Try and get ones that don't have oils in though, as they can just cause more spots.

Pre-pregnancy I used neutrogena foaming cleansing facial wash for dry and sensitive skin, she might want to use it twice a day though...

If her face feels itchy and tight after she gets it wet, she'll need a moisturiser as well after whatever cleansing stuff works. I discovered a remarkable number of spots can be caused by dry-skin, I guess 'cos the pores are open.

A great sneaky tactic is to get your face wet with warm water (to open the pores), use cleaning product, wash that away with cold water (to close them again) and then lightly moisturise.

She mentioned Neutrogena to me I think for my 13 yr old starting to spot.

I use Nivea young stuff and I'm 27! Have got tendency to acne though. It's nice and light and smells nice too.

She is starting to get acne on her forehead but I do also think she has very sensitive skin. I feel really sorry for her. I'll have a look at the Neutrogena stuff.

my dd suffers with acne on forehead - we have tried everything - even been to docs at one point.

she just showers and uses normal shower gel.

My 12 year old DD has poor skin too. Have been using Clearasil, which doesn't help at all. She started using my Dove bar and that has helped her.

I think that's it Custy - it's just a fact of life. I'm just hoping I'll find something that will settle it - we find a product that seems to help for a few weeks then it gets bad again. I think we're just going to have to live with it. There's just a lot of years ahead of her when she's only 12, bless her.

That's interesting wts, I had never thought of Roc.

TBH I really stood out as different as a teenager and got quite a hard time (I've been 6ft tall since I was 14). I just don't want her to have to go through the same thing, I just want her to blend in. Is that awful?

You could try Liz Earle - the cleanse and polish is very gentle, and suitable for many sensitive skins, and you get a bit of gentle exfoliation with the muslin cloth, plus there's a light moisturiser. There's a Young skin kit so she could try it out.

I know it's pricey but I would recommend Clinque's 3 stage program - the soap lasts for ages and the toner can really help and he skin will feel really clean and fresh which will probably discourage her from touching her skin unnecessarily and will help to make her feel better. Again they will give you samples at the counters and show her how to use it. = I wish my mum was knowledgable and supportive about this stuff. It's not about looking glamourous just about feeling a bit more confident.

DD uses the Wich foaming facial fash and her skin has been much better. Before that she was getting occasional spots and tiny white spots beneath her eyes. It seems to have cleared them up pretty much altogether and doesn't seem to be too drying, as some of them can be.

firsttimemama - I reckon it would end up cheaper in the end. We've always bought her wipes because they're easy to use, but a pack costs about £4 and last about 2-3 weeks. My Lancome cleanser costs about £20 but lasts a year! I used to use the Clinique stuff when I was younger, it does last forever.

boots is great because occasionally they have if you spend over a certain amount you get a £5 voucher for these products e.t.c

so experiment using the voucher and when you've found a product thats good start buying that.

i did that and now use no7 toner

but if she's 12 why does she need to clean her fface with this stuff? its aimed at 15+ tbh

Have you tried any facial cleansing wipes? I think Clean & Clear are supposed to be good, or if her skin is sensitive there are loads of hypoallergenic ones.

If you find one that suits her the supermarkets & chemist chains often have 3 for 3 offers to stock up on.
