What’s wrong with wearing socks!?

Do you mean they wear socks with sliders as slippers?

CheerfulBunny · 23/07/2024 14:06

It's ironic/fugly/whatever the latest word is. When I was that age it would've been certain social death. Therefore, I still think it looks stupid.

AutismHelp1980 · 23/07/2024 14:07

It’s just style lol mine wear socks with their crocs and sliders

Cas112 · 23/07/2024 14:22

Why is it such an issue 😂

Olika · 23/07/2024 14:28

Do you mean you would prefer them bare foot?

refreshingseahorse · 23/07/2024 14:28

I have German heritage so have been used to wearing socks and sandals for years. The kids have seen the light at last! 😄

Wery · 23/07/2024 14:37

I am never without socks, indoor or out, whatever the weather and I am 66.
Winter = long thick socks
Summer thinner shorter socks.

I get plantar fascitis and going barefoot sets it off. I therefore wear shoes all the time and hate bare feet in shoes.

DullFanFiction · 23/07/2024 14:40

I can’t say I’m bothered about socks in the house (even though Wo slippers, they get holes very quickly).
With sliders? Nope, nope, nope.

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 23/07/2024 14:43

I dont understand the problem , are you somehow under the impression that socks are outdoor only garments?

Traineraoc · 23/07/2024 14:46

I think it's great that fashions have started to favour more comfortable options. I can't abide bare feet, love to feel my feet all cosseted in socks.

Katiesaidthat · 23/07/2024 14:48

I wear socks in the winter indoors, and I am hardly young (50). Don´t see what the problem is...

longdistanceclaraclara · 23/07/2024 14:48

The things we went through to hide our socks as teens was ridiculous (I'm 45). Folding down trainer socks so there was really income bit under your heel, pushing down every trace of sock.

I therefore think it looks daft but socks are comfy. Especially in crocs.

tribalmango · 23/07/2024 14:50

This made me laugh.
I've heard that crew socks are 'in' and trainer socks are 'out'. GenZ wear crew socks apparently.

DS2 to me: why are you wearing trainer socks?
me: [smiling cos he even notices that his Mum isn't bang on the current trend] because I'd look like a twit in crew socks.

nb I was born before Gen anything was even a thing.

nb I do throw on a pair of longer socks when I go traipsing around the fields.

Thinking about his sock habits, then yes he does seem to wear them at all times apart from in bed/shower (I presume!).

Socks and Birkenstocks!
I don't have German heritage but I did live there for 2 years and learnt the ways.

EveryKneeShallBow · 23/07/2024 14:52

I never wore socks indoors or out until I moved to Scotland. Nowadays I’m never without.

Abstractthinking · 23/07/2024 15:10

I think it's great that fashions have started to favour more comfortable options.

As far as i can tell, comfortable dressing is very inconsistent. The girls have cheese slicer g-strings, but then have abandoned unwired bras.

Brefugee · 23/07/2024 15:17

i was reading about this the other day. It is the best way to differentiate Gen Z from everything that went before. So Millennials and Gen Xers wear sneaker socks. Gen Z wear sport socks pulled up as far as they go.

I've been watching, and it seems to hold water as a theory.

I've been wearing G strings since the 90s, not because they're sexy (I actually think the look is quite revolting, but who sees 😆) but to avoid VPL. and don't find them uncomfortable at all, I'm not even aware of it when wearing one.

Otoh, being "allowed" to wear trainers practically anywhere now is brilliant.

fridaynight1 · 23/07/2024 15:24

It's definitely not just the young ones. I'm an oldie and the only time I don't wear socks is on holiday (although I do always pack a couple of pairs just in case) or in bed. I'm not fussed what they look like, any type will do 😀
Crocks and socks are my particular favourite at the moment.

Octavia64 · 23/07/2024 15:26

Bloody love my sliders and socks.

First saw it on a teen a few years ago and thought it looked odd but so comfortable.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 23/07/2024 15:26

I love a nice pair of socks - I'm 50

My DS (15) refuses point blank to wear socks indoors and prefers bare feet.

S1lverCandle · 23/07/2024 15:28

Wearing socks is a perfectly normal thing to do, op.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 23/07/2024 15:34

It's odd how as adults, people must have experienced things going in and out of fashion constantly, and probably frequently embraced looks which used to be social death, or ditched newly-uncool looks they used to love... and yet cannot get past the idea that visible socks are inherently cringeworthy!

I like colourful socks...I'm 45 and have Raynaud's, socks everywhere! 😁

Hayliebells · 23/07/2024 15:37

It's almost always more comfortable to wear socks than not, so good on 'em.
