Teenager trainers style help

Hi all! My sister said my niece would like some trainers for Christmas so my mum and I will go halves. She's a lovely girl and I'd love to get her something cool and 'in' . I've heard of Nike air force 1s? Nike Jordan's, so I guess that's what I'm looking at. Anyone with cool vibes that can help an auntie out. Thank you in advance. (She's not really into bright colours so white or plain ish ones- black and white) pictures would be fab. So many choices. Are there any 'specials' that I could hunt for?

Plain white air force 1s would be the way to go.

jackstini · 05/12/2022 18:58

What age/size is she?

Nike usually go up in price from size 7 but if under that, you can get the 'grade school' ones a bit cheaper

Plain white can't go wrong
Plain black are usually school shoes

abouttimeforanewname · 05/12/2022 18:59

how old is your niece?

My DD (late teens) is asking for Nike Dunks or New Balance 550.

Theblacksheepandme · 05/12/2022 20:11

My daughter asked for these. She's not gone on the laces and is going to replace with black.

Sorry it's the Black/Canyon Rust/Summit White/Mint Foam

Don't buy a teenager trainers without asking what they want .

I would agree with this. It’s a minefield. One of my nieces would love a pair of airforce 1s. Another would say they’re ‘basic’ and only wants doc martens because she dresses quite ‘dark academia.’ My DS would want sporty Nike or adidas trainers, dd would prefer platform converse or high top vans etc.

QueenBeex · 05/12/2022 20:25

My niece (14) wears Nike air forces, Nike TN or Nike 95.
Trainers are bloody expensive though now!

This.

Mine wanted Adidas high tops.

Remaker · 05/12/2022 20:30

I would definitely ask her what she wants. What about a voucher so she can go shopping?

My DD was trying to avoid Nike Airforce 1 as everyone has them but after looking around decided they were the best option in an all white shoe. She also has some 1980s black and white Nikes that she loves.

This!

It's Sod's Law whatever you get them - they'll say (it at least think it) that they wanted another brand.

If you insist on still getting some - I'd go plain white Nike air force 1s.

tryingsomethingnew · 05/12/2022 21:05

Ah thanks all.

Yes she's 14. She said Air force 1s but I'd don't know what they were and there seems to be dunks, low, colours But looking on Nike site there's loads. I think plain white a good bet. Should I just go to the Nike website? Any competitive priced sites?

Invisimamma · 06/12/2022 08:31

Air force 1 are hardly ever discounted as they are classic and very popular.

If you know anyone who work in emergency services and has a blue light card they can send you a discount code for JD Sports.

lookersnoopy · 06/12/2022 08:42

What size are her feet?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 06/12/2022 11:50

My daughter is 14. She won't wear anything other than Jordan mids. We bought her a pair for Christmas last year and they cost around £150 and she has worn no other shoe all year apart from her school shoes and a pair of sliders on holiday. She even wears these trainers with strappy little dresses. She wore them all through the heatwave too.

So when she asked for a new pair for Christmas that cost £160 I was happy to get them as she has saved me so much money by not wanting any other shoes.

The problem is getting them - you have to buy at inflated prices from EBay or other sites where people sell them on for a quick profit.

MillyMollyManky · 06/12/2022 12:02

My kids like Af1s (which they can wear for school in black), Jordans mid, Dunks.

I would make sure you check the return policy unless you know exactly what she wants, and give her the receipt and a promise that you are happy for her to change it.

Rollergirl11 · 06/12/2022 23:11

DD (16) has Dunks in black & white colour way, DS has AF1’s also in black & white.

What’s your size whatsyoursize.co.uk

and Laced www.laced.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA7bucBhCeARIsAIOwr-9lwis6qvyrox_nEg5s3lZqY8OWqLzbO6mI38cLiGaXuzmACP3ontQaAqV4EALw_wcB

both websites excellent choice for Jordan’s, Dunks and AF1. Really pricey though!

Blankscreen · 06/12/2022 23:19

I would say Jordans 1s or dunks for 'special' trainers AF1s are more mainstream.
You can get AF1s is places like JD so would have a better returns policy..

Lots of Jordan 1s are on resale sites at ££££. Then you have the minefield of whether they like highs or mids.

I would set a budget and ask her.

Ds got mids £160 DSS highs were £400.

Utter madness but lots of the kids seem to have them round here.

AJ2009 · 06/12/2022 23:54

My son wanted these this year, £200 when I bought them.
Said everyone wears them.
Tbh he lives in them so didn't mind spending the money.
Showing a bit cheaper here though - £155

Nike air vapormax

(Cant add pic, it's playing up)

My 14 yo dd is also quite conservative in her choices. She is coveting the black/white and grey/white Jordan’s. She has worn her current Jordan’s to death. She also likes the white AF1 a lot but Jordan’s are the ultimate. She wouldn’t touch adidas with a barge pole and I wear her cast offs as I like them.

My dd did the same with her Jordan’s. Ditto strappy dresses. Never off her feet. She also wants some for Christmas, which I need to sort.

Covetthee · 07/12/2022 06:10

Could you just get her a gift card from
a sports store and let her pick her own?

picking trainers for teenagers is risky 🤣 i have 4 nieces in their teens and all their tastes are different, some like AF1, or Dunks or Yeezy’s.

Fcuk38 · 07/12/2022 06:17

The girls tend to wear the all white ones.

SoundsInAWinterGarden · 07/12/2022 07:48

What do people think about the black AF1s? They seem more sensible in winter as the white ones get so easily mucky. Can the black ones be stylish or are they just 'school shoes'?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/12/2022 08:04

Black ones are school shoes, I wouldn’t buy those for everyday wear.

DialsMavis · 07/12/2022 08:13

I would go for a voucher or promise in a card and get her on the Nike website on Christmas or Boxing day, or to he shops soon after. I got my running shoes for £90 from £180 last year on Christmas or Boxing day night

Trainer styles and colour ways are so personal and Dunks/Jordans/Airforces are so expensive , especially in adult sizes.

Also trends change across age groups pretty quickly.

DS 19 would not be keen on airforces anymore and is now into airmax 90s, 85s and 97s. DD 12 would be pleased to receive them but would be delighted with Jordans or Dunks.
